Rare Ken the cruiser Posted December 23, 2019 #1 Share Posted December 23, 2019 Is it possible to designate extra OBC at the end of the cruise to your cabin steward and/or MDR wait staff? That would definitely come in handy as we usually tip both quite well at the end of a cruise.

However, with regards to the Celebrity MDR wait staff, it would go into the general MDR wait staff pool (or the Luminae wait staff pool in you were in a suite) which makes sense as it takes a "village" to serve folks in the MDR. What does this have to do with answering the OPs question about Princess?

Not sure how they do it now, but in the past you could add it to the auto tip real easy and they could print off a slip to stuff in an envelope to give to the staff member. I know you can still add to the tip, but not sure of the printing off a receipt. You always just write a note that the extra was in there.

When you say "auto tip", do you mean the gratuity charge that is automatically posted to your account daily that is distributed at predefined percentages to the applicable housekeeping and food services departments or is it something different? Like I said cash is King. I am sure they would rather have the green in their hand versus a chit. Just sayin.
weedpindle Posted December 24, 2019 #10 Share Posted December 24, 2019 All extra tips( anything more than auto grat) to dining room staff go in to the fleetwide pool.

cruzsnooze Posted December 24, 2019 #12 Share Posted December 24, 2019 It goes into the pool and the crew you want to have it will get pennies after the math. Enjoy buying yourself something frivolous onboard with the extra. Just to be clear, are you referring to non refundable OBC.

If we have any left it will probably be from a cancelled excursion, which most likely will be refundable OBC. But from what I'm hearing, we'll probably wind up just giving out any extra tips in cash and wait for the ensuing check in the mail after the cruise is over. Win or lose the cash comes off the card on file and I get the % or points. Now that doesn't mean they don't get their rake, but that's on the drop, not the outlay.

vjmatty Posted December 24, 2019 #17 Share Posted December 24, 2019 That is what I usually do, cash out the remaining OBC at the pursers, or casino if nonrefundable, then give staff cash tips.

sandyoftheseas Posted December 24, 2019 #19 Share Posted December 24, 2019 You can go to any slot machine in the casino load what ever amount you want on your card then go to the cashier and get the cash. I think you can still do this.

Me too. I tell ya, it's tough getting old. I also meant refundable OBC as I'm well aware it's use it or lose it when it comes to nonrefundable OBC. But, you now have my curiosity up again. Does everyone know this about the Purser? All I've been reading is that if the refundable OBC on your account exceeds $25 at the end of the cruise, you will receive a check in the mail somewhere between 2-6 weeks later. If it's simply a matter of going up to the Purser and asking to cash out our refundable OBC, where is the Purser's desk located on a ship, as I'm guessing it's not at Customer Service?
