Hi Kim,  If you are booked for roller coaster at 10:30 I think 11:00 for zip line would be too early.

We did the roller coaster and I remover allot of time was spent lined up waiting for our turn but I have also seen no lines at all subsequently. So it’s hard to say what you will encounter but I would suggest getting an afternoon zip line time slot.

So looking forward to your trip repor.

I thought the same thing about the next available time open for the zip.

When you say get an afternoon zip time...like how late should it be? Do you think it's best to do the roller coaster at the 10:30 slot time and then go hang out at the beach for awhile, then eat lunch, then go to the zip?

Hi Kim- great review and glad to hear you are on the mend!!  We are going on Escape in a few weeks for my son’s spring break and doing the same itinerary!  We did the Breakaway around the same time you did it last year and was very underwhelmed, so hoping the Escape is better.  We actually took the Escape to Bermuda a few years ago and my son was OBSESSED with the Guy Harvey channel.  I think I could recite the shows by the end of the cruise!

Having been on the Oasis class ships, I can offer you a few tips.  Regarding Ultimate Abyss, your feet and legs are in this sack/mat type of thing and your feet should not hit anything, even in the chute you end in.  Hold your elbows in or you will be sorry- my son didn’t listen (no surprise there) and got bad abrasions/burns on his elbows and hit his head.  He did not make the same mistake twice!

You are going to want to physically attend one of the shows at the Aqua Theater- there is a lot of aerial activity and things you might not see from your room.  Sign up for the first night, because they will cancel the show in rough seas.  They also have a fun/different aqua show usually the last sea day- can’t remember what it’s called on Oasis, but check the schedule.  Both ice skating shows are fabulous and a  must see!

If you want to do an activity, get there EARLY to make sure you get a spot.  Ice skating, flow riding, zip line, etc.  The minimum weight for zipline is 75lbs FYI (my son was devastated he could not do it).  They are very strict- no jewelry, wet clothes, and you must have closed- toe shoes on.  We stayed on the ship on a port day just so we could enjoy the slides, pools, and amenities without the crowds.  We don’t do the Broadway shows, but all the other shows they have are really good. The Solarium has an awesome salad bar that is free for lunch- check it out!  Also, Park Cafe in Central Park is good to beat the buffet crowds for breakfast, lunch, snacks.  Make sure to walk through Central Park at night!

I think someone mentioned the vendors at Labadee, but they are crazy aggressive.  Stay away from the open air market!  I’d honestly not go on the zipline or roller coaster with your leg, but I am in healthcare and am ultra conservative, 🤷🏻‍♀️

Looking forward to your reviews of Oasis- I think you guys will love her!

I have heard several people say the Abyss will tear up your arms if you don't hold them in. It was even suggested to wear long sleeves so I think I'll pack a long sleeve shirt for us just for this occasion. The last thing I need it to mess up my arms. LOL I've endured enough pain to last me a lifetime over the last year.

I am definitely going to go to the Aqua show. I just wish they would open up the bookings already! I'm getting anxious. I didn't realize they have 2 ice skating shows. Are they different?

I think we have the zipline weight limit covered for all of us. 😉 haha So when you say "no jewelry" do we have to take our wedding rings off too? That creates a bit of a problem and mine are hard to remove. ugh

I'm definitely planning on trying out the solarium food. I believe I read that children are allowed in there to eat right?

Making note you can eat breakfast at Park Cafe. I didn't realize that part.

Labadee sounds like Jamaica and Nassau to me. Ugh! I can't stand that. What's the open air market? I suppose that's a place they force you to walk through to get to everything?

Hello! I don't know whether I have posted here, but I have really enjoyed your reviews and I have appreciated your input when planning my own cruises.

We sailed on Symphony of the Seas last spring, and while I know the ships are not identical I did review our experience (link in my signature) so feel free to read and let me know if you have any questions.

One thing I will recommend, if no one else has done so, is you MUST go to Johnny Rocket's for breakfast! For one thing, the location on the Boardwalk is amazing. For another thing, no one goes there so you will have the servers' full attention. Oh and the most important thing... the food is awesome!!!!!

I don’t know how late the zip can be but I know for sure if you do roller coaster at 10:30 you wouldn’t make zip line for 11:00.  I think if you did the roller coaster first then had lunch then zip line that would work better to leave a buffer in between both. Of course because I’m saying this you are going to get to roller coaster and there won’t be any line and you will be cursing me😀. When we went I’m sure we were in lineup for an hour at least. We didn’t do zip lining though.

Labadee is nothing like Nassau or Jamaica. The vendors are away from things and we didn’t go near them. There is a nice building to shop in and they are not aggressive in there. I think you will like Labadee.

I've heard others comment on this too....so it did worry me when trying the Abyss on Symphony.  We all initially wore long sleeves (even though it was hot out). Just keep your arms in and crossed over your stomach as they tell you and you will be fine.  After a couple days, we didn't bother with the long sleeves (no tanks though as that it one of the rules from what I remember).  The Abyss is so much fun.

The open air market is kind of towards the back of the ‘island.’ There is a covered building where vendors are not aggressive- if you leave this building and turn right, you will be in the aggressive vendor section.  Labadee is not like Jamaica and Nassau IMO- no one will accost you on the beach to braid your hair or sell trinkets, etc.  We did the zipline and the truck takes you up to the top of the mountain...there is a big fence there with people on the other side...some were begging for food- very sad. I’ll be curious to hear your opinion of Labadee.

The ice skating shoes are different- one you need reservations, and the iSkate one you don’t.

Dont know about wedding rings, bc I don’t wear them. I’d ask the sports staff about that.

I second the poster upthread who mentioned eating breakfast at Johnny Rockets!

Kids are allowed in Solarium cafe to eat, but not to hang out in the solarium - that’s adults only.

I don’t think you will necessarily need long sleeve shirts for Abyss.  Just follow the instructions and you will be fine!  No tank tops/sleeveless shirts, though.  There’s no where to put your stuff, either, so don’t carry a bag or anything bc there’s no cubbies or anything to store your stuff!

Haha. I appreciate your thoughts. I'm still so undecided when to schedule the zip line. Ugh.

Good to hear the vendors are away from things. I can't stand when they hassle you over and over and try to put things on you and then insist you buy it. I would buy more if they left me alone.

There's a fence with people begging on the other side? Oh wow. I didn't realize it was close to any place (like a town or something) that it would be fenced off. I've never really looked at the area and figured it was just like any other "private" type of area.

Thanks for all your tips and advice. I really appreciate it and making mental notes on everything you said.

Yes, breakfast is included in the cruise fare. Lunch and dinner have a surcharge, though if you buy the unlimited dining package lunch and dinner are included in that. I am not 100% certain of the breakfast hours, and I don't know whether it varies by sailing/ship/destination. A quick Google search says they are open until 10 or so for breakfast.

When we went there was maybe only one or two other tables seated. That was it!!! I don't know if they are busier earlier on in the morning, but no one was there when we went. We sat outside on the Boardwalk and it was so awesome watching people and enjoying the beautiful morning. The servers were just gushing over a baby at the next table and since there weren't really any other customers they gave them tons of attention.

We had beverage packages so the sodas we drank were free for us as well.

Enjoy!!

Well for those of you that have been not only following my reviews, but the dilemma with my foot...I revived some bad news this morning.

I am very grateful that I'm no longer in a wheelchair and up walking around these days. I'm still having a lot of pain and difficulty with my ambulation. I also can not walk far distances without a lot of swelling and increased pain. I have battled it out with my ortho and according to them, I should not be having this pain and they will no longer give me any pains meds (cut off last Nov) and said this is the last time they would give me any nerve meds (which does nothing for the pain but does help with the constant tingling and feeling of my foot always being asleep).

My primary care doctor has been amazing and a great advocate for me. She has done test and gave me meds to help control the pain. Yesterday she sent me to get a MRI due to the continued pain.

The findings was not what I wanted to hear, but at least it gave me answers.

Findings of a sprained ligament, a fragment of the bone appears to not be in place or lined up, swelling was also found. So now she is referring me to a foot and ankle specialist. If you remember, when I first hurt my ankle/leg and had surgery, my ortho doctor said I would be 1) up and walking at 8 weeks (even after a second surgery for the infection and the blood clots) and 2) I would be having a third surgery in December to remove the hardware on the right side and also the 2 screws fusing my tib/fib together. December came and gone and they said they would not be removing the screws but yet there's a chance they could break under stress!!! Remember my neighbor and my son in law that both had this done and both were told DO NOT apply any pressure to the foot until these screws are removed!! They were also told if the screws broke, it would be an extensive surgery to remove them (going in both sides of the foot again) and very painful. UGH! I was up and walking at 8 weeks and doing physical therapy with a lot of pressure applied, especially in directions that my foot/ankle just doesn't bend because of the screws.

So....here I am. Not knowing what's next for me. 😞

So sorry to hear this news Kim. Hopefully this will not have any effect on your upcoming Oasis cruise. Are you still paying out of pocket for all of your medical or were finally able to get the BWC to kick in? Thinking good thoughts for you.

Oh, Kim, I’m sorry to hear this news! I know you’re worked really hard to get back on your feet again. I am, on the other hand, glad you now have an idea why you’re still having so much pain, pain that would be gone by now if your leg was healing normally..

I’m glad to hear your primary care Dr is advocating for you, and I hope the foot and ankle specialist will be able to help you. While I haven’t met you in person, I do feel like I know you from all the years I’ve spent here reading your reviews. I know for sure that you’re a really strong woman, and you will get through this.

I came here tonight to see how your planning for Oasis was going, and to find out if you’re still planning on going with the Covid19 virus going around. Hearing about the issues with your leg certainly puts a whole new perspective on the subject. I’m sure you will think it out and make your decision based on whatever is best for you and your family.

Here’s a stingray for you because I’m sure you could use one right about now 😀

Thanks for all the wonderful comments. It's funny how we get to know each other on these boards after so many years. I feel like I have so many people that I can honestly call "friends". ❤️

I still waiting to see what happens with RC and the virus since they cancelled all cruises UP UNTIL our cruise. If they don't cancel ours, we will be the first back on the ship when it sails. I would think they would have sanitized the heck out of the thing by then. 😄

Love the stingray. Great capture!!!

Here, I was worried about our cruise in OCTOBER on Harmony! Your Oasis cruise should be interesting if it does sail. You’re right, the ship should be very well sanitized for you if you do sail!

We have a land trip to Key West at the end of April. When this coronavirus pandemic first started, I thought for sure the threat would have passed by then. Now, not so sure. It will be really hard to reschedule, especially with everyone else trying to do the same thing.

I think it’s wonderful how we get to know each other here. I’m sure I feel that know you and the rest of your family better than you know me, so thank you for the “friends” comment! ❤️  Maybe one of these days we’ll actually get to meet IRL.

How’s your foot healing? Have you been able to see the foot & ankle specialist you mentioned a while back?

Mitsugirly!  I've read several of your reviews, mostly Carnival.  Few weeks ago I booked my first NCL cruise for 2021 on the Escape.  Low and behold you have one of your excellent in depth reviews.  I'd just starting it so have a lot to digest.  Also found one of Sids live reviews on another ship but he it's Sid.  This is going to take a while lol!  Made it through a few pages so far and wow Sakari has gotten big!!!! Cant wait to make it through the review.

Kim, Thank you for another great cruise review.  I'm so sorry to hear about the setback with your leg. It is definitely time for a different specialist to correct this situation.  With the swelling and pain, I was concerned you might have developed RSD but it sounds like there is a clear and obvious physical reason for what you are experiencing which can be corrected.  I am wishing you all the best in getting this successfully fixed.  So now we have this corona virus situation to contend with.   The "Cats" show is not a fave of mine by any measure, (here's a video from it to give you an idea why I don't care for it, yet some people love this show, but I just truly don't like it at all:

but I also saw "Shampoo" and "Mama Mia" on Oasis class ships and they were great shows with quality casts far beyond the usual cruise shows and the shows flew by quickly because they were so well done.  So,  should you reschedule, maybe you can go on an Oasis class ship that has a different show than "Cats."  Any of the other shows they are doing are terrific! Just a thought.  Anyway, take care and I truly hope you get your issue with your leg squared away quickly and can start healing ASAP.

I wanted to mention that I follow Chris Wong on Youtube - he works on a RCCL ship in the casino and he was told yesterday that he was being sent home instead of being kept onboard with no passengers for 30 days.  I've got a feeling that your Oasis cruise will probably cancel due to the virus.  I'm sure you know to keep a close eye on the situation.

Yea, I'm really wondering if this will all blow over before that date. I have my doubts. :(  I have been waiting 10 years to sail this ship and finally after getting a decent price on it, this happens. BOO!

I guess if it is over by then and we do get to sail, the good news is, I cancelled my airflight and rebooked at $88 instead of the $249 price tag they had on it. 😁

Hopefully one day our paths will cross. I would love to have a cruise where I met everyone on here that I have gotten to know. It would be the cruise of a lifetime.

Foot is still the same. :(  I haven't received any calls yet to schedule for the bone specialist (or for my colonoscopy that I have been putting off for 4 years now and they are insisting I do it now that I had blood in my stool a few weeks ago). I'm thinking maybe all the doctors are putting new patients or visits on hold and just seeing the really sick people right now. I'm being patient. It's not like my foots going anywhere soon. LOL

Well congrats for booking NCL. I hope you have a wonderful cruise. We have always loved NCL...just decided to branch out some with Carnival and RC. We love them all.

I don't know who Sid is. I'll have to look Sid up when I get a chance.

I hope you enjoy the review.

Thanks for all the get well wishes. I still have a long road ahead of me, but I'll get there sooner or later.

Interesting (the video). We'll probably take Sakari to it. She'll probably like it because of the costumes. She's go into costumes right now and have made several of them. She may get some ideas. (If this cruise even happens). :(

Oh had forgot about him. I watched several of his videos back when he started. So sad they are being sent home. This doesn't sound like good news for cruising any time soon. I have a feeling your feeling is spot on with the virus. I'll be so sad.

Chris Wong is saying today that he expected to fly home to the UK in then next 4 - 5 days - so he would be off the ship until at least April 27 or so.  The UK is on lockdown and if RCCL can't find a flight for him, he may be staying onboard the ship.  Honestly, if I were him, I'd rather remain onboard that ship than fly to the UK right now - too much possible exposure to the virus.  I feel like he is safer on the ship.

I am also worried about the cruising industry.  This really is a terrible situation and I hate that it is going to hurt so many cruise employees.

I really enjoyed your review.  I somehow missed it when you first started it.  It was nice to read something good while being at home all the time.  The highlight of the week other than you review is going to the grocery store and hoping they have what we need.  We managed to get everything except toilet paper.  Hope you recover soon.  Sorry you are going to miss your cruise.  Hopefully when this is all over you can re book it.  Take care.

I would much rather stay on the ship as well. It seems a lot safer for him than flying or going back home.

I'm glad you enjoyed the review. "Highlight of the week" lol....we have to laugh at this to keep us sane. We made 3 grocery store runs before most of this happened, so we are pretty stocked up. Cashiers were making comments about how much everyone has in their carts and freaking out, but I'm over here like "this is how I always shop so I don't have to come back for another month" LOL

We're still waiting to hear if they will cancel our cruise. I'm sure they will but I'm not canceling until they give the word. :(

Kim, I am so sorry to hear about your bad news on your foot.  How very disappointing.  I pray that you get answers quickly and are able to move forward.  Unfortunately, with this coronavirus, everything is in very slow motion right now.  Hang in there and know that we are all praying for you.

Awful to see this news about your foot.  I guess the bright side is you know the problem.  Crazy how such a small incident can turn into something so big.  Thank you again for your review.  You really are an inspiring person— I know you definitely inspired me to be more adventurous.  Wishing you positive energy as you go through your next steps towards fixing that foot.  Never give up.
