Monkeyland Using a Taxi Punta Cana

We are cruising to Punta Cana on Royal Caribbean.  The monkeyland safari is all booked through the cruiseline.  Does anyone know if its possible to go to Monkeyland with a taxi and will there be any problems getting into monkeyland?  Is it a private tour only type place? Thanks
