We are sailing on the Edge Feb 16 on return we would like to rent a car from Ft Lauderdale to Orlando. Need suggestions on car rental companies other than the airport close to the pier.

A little research goes a long way.   Just go to Google Maps and put in location Port Everglads and then search for car rentals it will show you a map of the closest ones.

Alamo may be your closet.    You do not need to go to the terminal.

Avis/Budget are very close to gate to the docks. Our experience is not so much proximity but rather getting space on the shuttle buses to take you to the rental car depot. On one occasion we waited for about an hour as several shuttles went through full, before we jumped in a cab to take us to depot.

lately, we have been using Uber to take us to airport to collect our car. Last month it took 6 minutes for Uber to arrive and around 10 minutes to get to airport a a cost of $13.50.

Uber pick up is immediately outside cruise terminal exit on the left.

We did exactly that in November.  Walked off REFLECTION as soon as we could, took a taxi to the Hertz located at the Crowne Plaza Fort Lauderdale, drove to Orlando where we returned the car the next morning before flying home.  I suggest you spring for the taxi to get to the car rental otherwise you’ll spend most of the morning competing for shuttle space and lining up at the car rental office.

The shuttle buses are manic if you get off the ship at peak time. You are also likely to queue at passport control too. Been, seen, done it, not good...Passport should be less of an issue now owing to facial recognition...

However, if you wait until after 9am to get off everything has started to quieten down. When we were on Reflection we enjoyed a last coffee in Michael’s after a leisurely breakfast in Luminae. We then walked through a nearly empty passport area, out to the shuttle bus area, a bus arrived, loaded us and one other couple and we were at the car rental area (Eller Drive) in minutes. By the time we got there the queues for picking up rental cars had gone down and we were soon loaded and on our way...

I know we were lucky to have Luminae and Michael’s but you could find a comfortable spot anywhere on the ship and enjoy a coffee or two...

many people waiting for the rental car shuttles have not pre booked the cars. If you have, then as soon as the shuttle pulls up wave your papers to get the attention of the driver. Those with booked cars get on first. Works for us!
