Majesty Diamond situation

This is really upsetting.  Booked for May 2020 and I would not have booked if this was the case.  I was told DL was set up in Viking Crown!

Who told you that there was a DL?

My friend who was recently on the Majesty said there was a section of the Viking Crown Lounge  roped off for Diamond and above from 5-8:30.

OK, well that used to be true.  It was not a dedicated DL, just a temporary area they set up and took down each evening.  Much different than a DL.

As you know Bob, some of the best Diamond events were up in the VC on Sovereign, Monarch & Majesty. Having the Rosario Strings playing while enjoying decent apps, plus drinks really made us feel special. And yes, Desmond making Oreo cookie blender drinks for Tyler (Taylor to Desmond) sure helped Tyler enjoy the cruise life even more! He's coming up to 300 nights on his own!

Sovereign and Monarch did not have a nightly event in the VCL, IIRC.

Monarch did something in Boleros irregularly.

Monarch did have the nightly event, at least for the last few years at PC.

However I think Tyman was referring to the Top Tier event on Saturday morning when approaching Nassau.  Best top tier event we've experienced on any ship.  Rosario strings, Bloody Marys, Bellinis, Mimosas, hot/cold snacks, all up in Viking Crown while doing a slow 180 to back into the pier at Nassau.

Yeah- Monarch did it when it was in PC.

The 11:45am buzz going into Nassau was sweet, so right Bob! Remember the table at the front that had the different martini's in the small "taster" glasses? I remember thinking how cool I was to be able to order, and get, Appletini's from the waitstaff. Let's see, I do remember Monarch & Majesty's nightly event in VC, but thought for sure we also had it on Sovereign before she left...guess it's either my age or the nightly drinks that have affected my memory. Ha!

I also remember one of the ships having the Saturday Top Tier event in the lounge on deck 5, I think.......I think due to how many Plat's and above were sailing....

We were only lucky enough to sail on Sovereign once and I don't recall any event up in Viking Crown, but that was a long time ago so I could be mistaken.

I can still picture Rosario strings in the middle of VCL, facing the ships "steering wheel" with the apps to one side and Lord Timothy holding court on the other side. We cruised Sovereign starting in '94 and numerous times out of PC prior to Monarch taking over. Actually, just saw Bennie, from the good old VCL days on the Sov/Mon/Maj on the Mariner!!! Haven't seen him in over 10 years!

The best of my recollection, no event.  I hate to admit it, but I just looked back at my cruise list and we cruised Sovereign 23 times. That was back when we didn’t have a lot of time to cruise, didn’t mind a long drive (we were  much younger)  and drove down for a variety of weekend cruises. Our last sovereign cruise was the last weekend cruise she sailed in October 2008.  We became diamond in 2005, so if there was an event I likely would have remembered as we sailed Sovereign often between then and 2008.

If I recall correctly,  there was NOT any kind of event on any ship without a loyalty lounge. Of course this pre-dates getting vouchers. I don’t recall the ship, but I remember sailing something that had a diamond lounge. It was probably the second time I took mariner in 2008, as when I took mariner in 2004 we were not Diamond.   I distinctly remember going back to ships with no diamond lounge, but honestly the lack of the lounge didn’t seem to make a difference.

100% guarantee they had Top Tier events up in the VCL back in the day, I just need to remember when. 🙂 If I remember correctly, the Monarch had a two story VCL with stairs that went up to a smaller area. They held Top Tier up there when the lower level filled. Anyway, lots of good memories.....and yes, good old days turning into, just old. Ha!

Back in the day, Jewel of the Seas would hold their Top Tier event in the Safari Club area. I remember sitting at the bar as waitstaff walked around appetizers etc.....I think that was the first time I remember hearing about how many nights some of the active cruisers had....I think. 😉

Boy, I do not remember stairs in the VC on Monarch.  Must have had too many Bloody Marys!

Ha! The stairs were to the back left. I remember having to squeeze by folks either going up or coming down. They actually had a badge reader at the top. You would slide your seapass in to get in. Again, lots to drink back then so maybe I'm right, maybe I'm wrong. lol!

Ok.  I didn't remember one on Monarch.

Tyman's post didn't sound like a once-a-cruise experience to me, based on the topic of this thread.

Thanks for explaining.

It's been a while since either of those ships sailed out of PC, what I do remember going up to the VC for a Top Tier event. At one time, again I'm trying to remember, it was just wine & champagne as the drinks and you got like 20% off beer cost. I'm sure I'm not the only one who remembers this.....I'm only 60 but still have a strong mind. Ha! Anyway, Merion Mom, maybe it was just one night that they did this, I'll have to ask my DS. I know over the years the Rosario Strings changed players, but was still called the same. 🙂

Ps.....I'm still thinking this was done outside the 10:45am going into Nassau Top Tier event, but I might be combining 65 cruises into one memory. lol!

Pss....sorry for taking over this thread with my rambling on. It's hard to resist talking about the good days of cruising. Heck, you could get a day pass at BCH for $15 back in the day. Now it's $100....oops, rambling again.

We're onboard in February. I didn't get an email! Not that it matters, but I am always annoyed when they don't notify us about things. We just purchase packages. Thanks for letting us know about the info you have received.

Can you post or copy and paste the email?

We are also booked in February and have not gotten anything (that I know of!).....

That's shame.  They put out a decent spread of appetizers in the VCL...and the venue itself is excellent; one of the gorgeous panoramic Viking Crown Lounge views.  Just a nice place to be and plenty of space without the confines of some of the newer broom closet lounges.

On the other hand, if the regular bar in the VCL is open it is still a good spot to enjoy, but just another downgrade overall.

I honestly think the reason for stopping would probably be more to do economics.  The fact that Empress and Majesty are for the commonly sailing at rock bottom prices of $350 p/p for a 7 day cruise is mind boggling.

They probably want to entice new people to fill those cheap cabins and spend money onboard rather than attracting the retired D, DP, and PC crowd loading up the ship and setting up camp there every night. With Empress and Majesty not having Diamond Lounges, its easy to do away with without much uproar.

What new people are filling those ships??  They price them low because they need to fill them.  If retirees and those close to ports stopped booking, then they would have a major problem.  They want new people filling Voyager, Freedom, Oasis, and Quantum class ships that offer amenities and features for multi-generation families.

I love the Majesty.  But it is old.  And it needs to be priced how it is to get filled up.

Once a quarter we get the casino "free" cruise offer and it always includes the Majesty and/or Empress. It might have the Enchantment or Navigator once in a while but never the Oasis / Quantum class. They know the new cruisers are going to the mega's, so you're right, they're filling the older ships with cruisers like me. Old.
