Wonderful Copenhagen 2023

Recommended Posts

Thank you, Hallasm, for all of your wonderful advice and help in this and other threads!  We loved our time in Copenhagen and can't wait to go back.

We stayed at Hotel Skt Annae and it was perfect for us. Very centrally located for what we wanted to do.

We are a fairly active family of three (the kid is 14) trying to cram as much as possible in the few days we have before our cruise.

Our reservation to get on the cruise boat, NCL Dawn, is for 2pm on Wednesday July 20.  We think it's at Oceankaj pier but aren't 100% sure. Our hostel is Next House Copenhagen, <27 Bernstorffsgade, 1577, Denmark>.

Is it reasonable to think that on the day we board the ship, we could take our luggage, all carry on, leave the hostel, see the changing of the guard, and then make boat by 2pm?  We'll have the Copenhagen card and plan to use that for transportation. If that's not possible, would it be possible with a taxi?

Thanks!

Yes, possible. It’s 30 minutes from Amalienborg to Oceankaj (Dawn is at Oceankaj, terminal 2)

Take the Metro from ‘Marmorkirken’ to ‘Orientkaj’ and bus 164/25 to the terminal (or the free shuttle bus

164/25 Bus stop at Orientkaj is in ‘Sundkrogsgade’ - behind Hotel Comwell.

Use the journey planner Rejseplanen for you planning (also available as app).

The Copenhagen Card includes Canal tour

Is the Canal Tour (a sightsee) and you can use the card only 1 time for this sightsee for your entire time period?

And the water taxi is different and a part of the transportation that is unlimited with the Copenhagen Card?

In general you can only use the card once for each attraction. However, when I was there in 2019, both Stromma and Netto canal cruises were included on the card, so you could take each one once. Check the inclusions.

A water TAXI is not included. The harbour BUS is part of the transportation system and is included on your card.

The canal Tour  - Stromma or Netto Boats) are sight Seeing only - Harbour busses are public transport

The sight seeing tours are different route than the Harbour busses

Do you mean the Harbour buses? - I did not think Copenhagen Waters Taxi is active as a transport today. the Harbour buses are part of the public transport and use the same ticket system - included in the Copenhagen card.

Harbour bus route

Lots of really useful detail on this thread. thanks to all but particularly hallasm for all the information. We have an overnight in Copenhagen on the Enchanted Princess at the end of August. It may well be that the weather will drive us onto the buses or shuttles but if the weather is good we would probably look to walk to the Orientkaj metro station from the ship. Is this a reasonable walk (distance is fine for us) or would the local infrastructure, any heavy  lorry traffic,  construction works or any port restrictions make the walk uncomfortable or hazardous

Thanks

I done this in April. It took 25 minutes. I walked along the cycle path and that cut a bit off. Easy flat walk. Construction is ongoing, but footpaths are clearly visible. At the end of the cycle path, you keep walking through the industrial estate and the Cromwell is in sight and Orientkaj is too the left of that

Thanks for the quick response and details of the shortcut! Would much prefer once we arrived in Copenhagen to get going rather than hanging around looking and then queuing for buses. We can and have got lost in pretty well anywhere but as we have the afternoon and night to play with that's not an issue. Never been to Copenhagen and having a night and another nearly full day there is a bonus, this is the first occasion when an itinerary change has ever pleased us

Enchanted Princess will be docked at terminal 1. Easy walk to the Metro Station - I highly recommend  to take the harbor bus from Orientkaj if possible - a bit slower but enjoyable if the weather is fine. Same tickets and price as the metro.

Thank you and Enjoy Copenhagen.

Thanks for this, weather permitting the harbor bus looks a great option for the 2nd day, when we will look to have an early start into the city. The Copenhagen card looks ideal for the trip, as we are arriving at 12:00 on day 1 and leaving at 18:00 day 2 we could probably get away with a 24 hour card + pay for the last journey back separately but a 48 hour pass would I suspect remove any possible stress and rushing around. Still some planning to do!

I got off Voyager at 7am and was in the Airport at 8.15. Left my luggage in a storage locker and was back in Kongens Nytorv just before 9am.

In may the bus wasn't running but it leaves every half hour. If you do decide to walk, the photos are the sign for the cycle path and the end of the street where you turn left towards the Cromwell.

Copenhagen Pass and City Pass are two different things

Former is useful for transportation as well as for entry (free or discounted) to various attractions.

City Pass (small version is fine) is strictly for transportation (but includes everything - harbor boats recommended by hallasm, bus, trains, metro, even transfer to/from airport)

Price difference is naturally substantial as one is superset of the other.

Hallasm...we are staying at SP34 hotel (thanks for the recommendation) and plan on taking the metro to Orientkaj...then take either bus 25 or 164 or the free shuttle (or walk) to Oceankaj.

Is it possible to take bus 25 or bus 164 from somewhere near SP34 hotel direct to Oceankaj? Thank you.

No - 164 or 25 doesn't serve city.

Your hotel is close to 'Vesterport' S-Train station or 'Rådhuspladsen' Metro.

You can either take the S-Train to 'Østerport' and then bus 25 or the Metro to 'Orientkaj'.

I think the metro is most convenient.

Getting from Airport to Andersen Hotel.

There are 2 metro stations:

København H  (M)

and

Central Station (Bernstorffsgade, København, Denmark)  This has a train symbol vs an M

Which should we get off at to walk to the Anderson Hotel?

Also, is there both a Metro and a Subway - Are they 2 different modes of transportation there? Im seeing on Google Maps Kobenhavn H has an (M) and says subway and Central Station has a "train symbol" and says Central Central Station and Train station Bernstorffsgade

Where I grew up taking trains, they were one in the same.

I understand your confusion.
In Copenhagen, we have three separate train systems.  Metro (the Subway) that connects the various neighborhoods in Copenhagen, the S-Trains that connect suburbs and nearest cities as well as regional trains that connect the rest of Denmark and Sweden with Copenhagen.
From Copenhagen Airport there are two options from Terminal 3. Metro (level +1) or Regional train (level -1)
From the airport to Copenhagen Central Station, regional trains are best - Metro will mean train changes and longer travel time.
All three train systems use the same tickets - can be purchased in kiosks at the airport, using mobile App or if you plan to use public transport ‘City Card’.
There is also a ‘Copenhagen Card’ which also gives access / discount to attractions.

Just ask if more questions.

City card...how many days is it good for? 1 day? 2 days? We'll be in Copenhagen 1 day before our cruise. Thanks as always.

Yes, you can buy wine in all supermarkets in Denmark. Several options.
There is a ‘Netto’ supermarket in ‘Niels Brocks Gade’ (street) behind ‘big grey’ police station, a ‘Brugsen’ Market inside the Central Station and ‘Irma’ Market between Tivoli's main entrance and Town Hall Square (Rådhuspladsen).

Sorry - it’s not called city card but a City Pass - more details.

A City Pass allows you to travel unlimited within a specified zone area for 24, 48, 72, 96 or 120 hours.

You can buy City Pass at the ticket vending machine on all stations as well as at Copenhagen Airport, or you can buy your City Pass with the “DOT Tickets” app.

Thank you for confirming the shuttle bus stop - it is in the direction of ‘Copenhagen International School’ which can be seen from the metro station by the harbor.
There are no final decisions regarding the extension of the metro in the direction of the cruise terminals.  At best, it will happen around 2030.

Something to be aware of, we just found out the hard way, that the shuttle goes until only 1 PM. Because of our daughter’s missing luggage, we got off the Metro much later than anticipated and were there about 1:10. After waiting 10-15 minutes, we decided to do the 30 minutes to walk it (on maps we thought it was a little less than a mile, we’re pretty sure it was close to 2 miles). It all worked out, but several of us would’ve been left in the lurch if our family didn’t just decide to walk.
