Costa Maya Maya Chan

One of our favorite little relaxing for a day spots in the world is Maya Chan in Costa Maya.  In fact we will be there for our 5th visit next month.  I just got this from them.  I can see it happening.  If you book it, know what it is first...and what it is not.  Don't go there and then be grumpy.   There are hundreds of other cruisers that want your reservation.

Please share all information that I have sent with all of our cruise mates.  We are experiencing some guests coming and not understanding what we are.  We are just a funky beach hangout. Not a large concrete monolith resort.

We were there in November, had a wonderful time.  The food and drink was great.

the sun was hot, but pool was refreshing, there was a lot of sea weed, but they did a great job combing it off the beach.

i had the best 25,00 massage.   Can’t wait to go back.

Pool?

When did they add a pool?

Well, because basically many NCL cruises stop there, including every time we've been there it has been aboard an NCL ship.   Maybe the other cruise line boards perhaps posted this info for their loyalists also.

Pool is at the second bar to the far left.

Maya Chan does not have a pool, I just checked their website. You must be thinking of someplace else. The only have one bar also, its a small place

Actually, yes they do. I was there a month ago and there absolutely was a pool. As a poster above said, the pool is by the second bar.

I stand corrected

Interesting, I haven't been there for 3 years. I guess then haven't updated their web sit.

It currently says Due to the nature of the weather and the fact that we produce our electricity, it would be almost impossible to maintain required cleanliness standards for a pool. For this reason, we offer fresh water showers for our patrons

Yes there is a pool.  Never saw it on our first visit till we were leaving 🤪.  Not very large by resort standards but perfectly fine.

Seven days and counting.  Wait....no concrete?  No throngs of hipsters wanting a casino, 40 bars, waterslides, yada yada yada?  Just a small family run beach hangout with friendly folks, great food, a great bar, warm breeze and water.... well sign me up

If you look at them on tripadvisor, down in the many pictures posted by reviewers, you will find one or two of the pool. Not big, but it is there.  Saw it last visit.  I love that place.  Total relaxation.  The bar staff will even bring you a fresh drink out into the water for you...with one of their dogs swimming happily along with them.

No worries the massage lady will be introduced to you upon your arrival.

I think it was $30.00 last time we were there?

We have been there 3 times and have taken others with us and all of them loved it.

The grass problem is the only negative and after a visit to the bar all will be good.

We call the Costa Maya stop Maya Chan day when we do the W. Caribbean!

This has to do with NCL because many of their ships stop at this port. Plus Maya Chan has become a popular spot.

Its a small resort with limited umbrella private areas. The homemade Mexican food is to die for.

The major draw back for this place is their beach is in a grassy area, thus not keen for a lot of people and especially if your bring kids. For us we dont go in the ocean we go for the ambiance, quietness, relaxation and for the fantastic food and drinks.

The hosts are also very accommodating and very friendly.

You need to book this well in advance due to limited spots

And the tacos! Don't forget the tacos! Soooooo good!

Oh yea!   I try to do three or four, one of each.  But after the morning of munching chips, salsa, and guacamole, and too many drinks, plus the beans and whatever I'm forgetting........it just isn't a job for the weak.

RE:  Swimming Pool at Maya Chan

I asked the owners  (who are currently cruising) and they asked me to convey the following information:  The pool at Maya Chan is not always open and is meant for private use by employees.  (They try to take care of both guests and the people who work there.)

Hope this clears that up!

When looking at pictures, the water looks rather murky there. Is that usually the case there?  It looks so brown. I was excited based on all the glowing reviews, but then l looked at pictures.

That is the case all along that coast of the area.  It has very heavy seagrass.  If you're looking for open beach and clear waters, not for you.   It's mostly about the little resort, service, relaxiatin, and the lunch.  Very rustic.  As you head down the dirt road for miles you will wonder what is going on.   But, the little beach is constantly raked for the seagrass and there is a small roped area with water toys to play with.  Think totally relaxing, not grand.  And the nicest staff you'll ever meet.
