isladonna Posted January 19, 2020 #1 Share Posted January 19, 2020 We have free drinks while gambling. How do they know you have this? Is there a bracelet or something or do they find out when swiping your S&S card? Do you get a receipt showing you paid nothing or does it show price of drinks, like if you purchases drinks? bafinegan Posted January 19, 2020 #2 Share Posted January 19, 2020 (edited) you get a card that you should keep with your sail and sign card :) Just show it when you order. Only good in the casino. baf Edited January 19, 2020 by bafinegan
klfrodo Posted January 19, 2020 #3 Share Posted January 19, 2020 As Bafinegan said,,, plus when they deliver the drink, there will be a receipt that you sign with an area for additional gratuity should you choose. The receipt is for $0.00 charge. * The receipt at $0.00 charge is for inventory and accounting purposes.
Border Granny Posted January 19, 2020 #4 Share Posted January 19, 2020 They will give you a card that they attach to your sail and sign card. I’ve usually gotten mine as soon as I started playing on a machine, in just a few minutes the casino host finds me and puts it on my card. One time the casino was really busy when I started playing and I went to the cage and they gave it to me there when they didn’t come to me in a few minutes. Border Granny Posted January 19, 2020 #6 Share Posted January 19, 2020 And a little hint, I’ve always tipped the server a dollar each drink and they come looking for me to see if I need anything, I’ve never had any trouble getting a server. A lot of people complain about them not coming around very often. I guess a lot of people don’t tip, but I always do

I do wonder if a tip is added, for the server, when you have DOU? LIke is Carnival paying the tip for them? Although I plan on tipping regardless, just to keep them flowing :)

LIke is Carnival paying the tip for them? That would be a No. In this instance, "carnival" per se is not paying anyone anything. Business (all successful business) is broken down into segments. Each having their own accounting bucket. In this instance, the Casino on YOUR ship has it's own little bucket. They purchase their alcohol from the ship Beverage director, then they sell in the casino. They probably have to give 60% of alcohol sales back to the ship beverage director. That other 40% is for the Casino bucket. YOUR DOU card is written off internally in the Casino and balanced against your "play" to ensure profitability. Bases5 Posted January 19, 2020 #11 Share Posted January 19, 2020 The last couple cruises I have been on they just used my sail & sign card. The DOU was in the computer just using the folio number. We used to get an extra DOU card but lately for us it just been our regular card.
Djptcp Posted January 19, 2020 #12 Share Posted January 19, 2020 I agree with giving the casino bar staff a dollar or so once you get your DOU card. They remember you and will come around more often. When I get to the casino the first night I tell one of the casino staff that I have DOU and they go check to make sure my name is on the list and they return with the card to attach to my S&S card. bafinegan Posted January 19, 2020 #13 Share Posted January 19, 2020 We also tip extra ($1 per drink, so if both hubbs and I order it's $2) Never have a problem getting refills 🥃:) baf
Moviela Posted January 19, 2020 #14 Share Posted January 19, 2020 The five different ships I have sailed on give me a DOU card which is linked to the my folio number. I can show the waiter either the DOU or the sign and sail card. If playing a slot machine the waiter can push a button and the machine displays the folio number. Very convenient. To my way of thinking a buck is small change anymore, so I give one with each drink.

The DOU card is just for show so the drink waiters can spot you to start. It is tied to your folio number

klfrodo Posted January 21, 2020 #24 Share Posted January 21, 2020 Side Note: The rules state that you must be actively playing when ordering a drink. IOW, you can't be somewhere on the ship, decide you want a drink and just head down to the casino, show your card and get a drink. You are to be sitting at a slot or a table and actively playing. That's not to say that a server I have tipped well during the week hasn't let that slide once or twice, but that's not the norm. That is the exception.
