Clarea Posted January 20, 2020 #2 Share Posted January 20, 2020 You might want to list the itinerary so everyone does not have to look it up. Also, check out the port of call forum: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/9-canadanew-england/

Sure you are aware but to be certain the cruise is from the port of Bayonne or as the moderator describes it beautiful gorgeous Bayonne. Surprised it was not indicated as such to you. 🍑
stevea36 Posted January 20, 2020 #5 Share Posted January 20, 2020 We did this itinerary (in reverse order) this past october on Anthem (leaf peeping time): here are some suggestions from what I remember: St John: the weather wasn't cooperating so we just stayed close, but the hop-on hop-off bus was on our radar if the weather was good. Halifax: We did the hop-on hop-off bus. did a loop around and then took it back to the citadel. The bus couldn't get near the titanic cemetery due to construction, but I would recommend that as well Bar Harbor: Acadia, Acadia, Acadia !!!! one of the most beautiful national parks Portland: bus tour to Kennebunkport - interesting sights Boston: as we had been here many times we stayed close to the ship. reallyitsmema Posted January 20, 2020 #6 Share Posted January 20, 2020 Love doing NE/Canada cruises even though we live outside Boston. One important distinction to remember is that you are going to Saint John, not St John. Might seem picky but one is in Newfoundland and the other in New Brunswick. We were on a rollcall that someone booked an excursion for St John and was almost out a lot of money!

Tatka Posted January 21, 2020 #8 Share Posted January 21, 2020 If you are stopping at St John New Brunswick I would really recommend https://www.thehopewellrocks.ca/index.php/en/home. 2 hours from port or http://fundytrailparkway.com/ one hour from port on the way from Hopewell rocks right near Fundy trail parkway there are St Martins sea caves , smaller attraction absolutely stunning and not to miss We rented a car, but I think there are excursions

lightcruise Posted January 21, 2020 #10 Share Posted January 21, 2020 Highly recommend seeing Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor, if you're active, a cycle rental is a great way to see it, otherwise there is bus tours (although that may be more limited as numbers are up). The carriage roads are an easy ride, and there is many great options for both low and high intensity rides, ask the guides at the rental place for recommendations, there is free shuttles up to the park. Don't forget to get a park access pass though. The other option is a late afternoon stroll across the sand bar to Bar Island - this should be accessible from 2.30/3pm on the day you are scheduled to visit, but possibly earlier, with low tide at 4.30pm, the bigger risk is missing the ship, rather than getting stuck on the island. Recommended Places: Acadia Bike & Canoe for bike rentals (or canoe tours) Brunch options - Cafe This Way or Two Cats (if you get off early to beat the rush) and if you're not after lobster, then Atlantic Brewing Co in Cottage Street does amazing burgers, and great beer. (also, great lunch option in Portland is the Flatbread Company Portland Maine - a short walk from the dock, and if you're after a sweet treat in Portland, then the Duckfat Citrus Donut Holes are a must try... the caramel sauce is so good!) Boston Have you every taken a food walking tour? It's a wonderful way to learn the history of a place and taste delicious, authentic local food. The cruise pier in Boston is about a 10-minute walk from the North End, this Little Italy section of town oozes with atmosphere and you'll feel as if you stepped into another country with the small shops and cobblestone roads. http://www.offtheeatenpathtours.com/ - Is the company to call for a terrific, entertaining and delicious food tour that will take you to the best local places and teach you some interesting facts while you're at it. It's a nice stroll back to ship from there, walk along the waterfront and stop at the Boston Aquarium if you have any energy left. Bar Harbor, Maine One of our favorite stops. A walk around the town square is a lovely way to spend the morning. This is a quintessential American town, with small shops, cafes, book stores, lots of great local seafood and tons of atmosphere. Whether you visit Acadia National Park and Cadillac Mountain with its commanding, dramatic views, make sure you still leave time to stroll through the town of Bar Harbor, it is truly delightful. Halifax, Nova Scotia Another wonderful port stop. Many people will run off to Peggy's Cove but, a stroll around this handsome city is an adventure to savor. A right turn out of the cruise pier will take you along the Harbor Walk toward the Halifax Maritime Museum with many great exhibits. Nearby here there are several old retired vessels that are free and open to the public to visit. The Halifax Public Gardens are really beautiful, perhaps a fifteen minute walk from the cruise pier. Lush with trees, brilliant flowers and several nice kiosks to grab a cold drink or an ice cream. Artisan Chocolate If you're a fan of chocolate you must visit Rousseau's Chocolate Shop, some of the best you'll ever enjoy. https://rousseauchocolatier.ca/pages/the-shop-cafe A five minute-walk from the cruise pier, we go every time we visit, superb chocolates. Husband and wife team, started with a small shop and have since expanded to a lovely cafe. Saint John, New Brunswick - Coffee Lover - make tracks for Java Moose: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g154960-d973694-Reviews-Java_Moose_Coffee-Saint_John_New_Brunswick.html Farmers Market About a ten-minute walk from the cruise pier. Take the time to really explore the food stall here. There are many great hidden treasure like candied smoke salmon, cream puffs (the most amazing ever). We had visited the market several times but, a food tour opened our eyes to these hidden delights. We like food tours, you will too. Have a great cruise on Adventure of the Seas and a fun time exploring Canada & New England. Jonathan
coaster Posted January 24, 2020 #13 Share Posted January 24, 2020 Thank you all for the feedback here. I am going on a 11 nighter on Empress to NE/Canada in June and this helps me out so much. Have only sailed from Florida ports and wanted a change this time.
