Boarding Encore in Miami

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am looking for some advice please as to the best time to get to the port in Miami to board the Encore. We are Gold members so am not sure if there are any priority lines for gold members in Miami.

Sorry if this has been asked previously on another post.

Thank you

What do you tickets stipulate as your boarding time?

Does it matter?

That is a serious question.  A couple years ago, NCL out of Miami it didn't matter.  2018, NCL out of Seattle, it didn't matter.  Prior to that, NCL out of Boston, it didn't matter.

Last year out of the Miami on the Getaway our tickets said 12:30 we showed up at 10:30 and were on board by 11. Going out of Miami on the Encore on Feb 9, ticket says 11:30, plan on showing up at 10.  I've never been locked out of boarding in Miami until ticket time.

It would answer the OP's question of when to board.

Does it matter?  I dunno.  I've tried to board early and was mobbed with people getting off the ship, while I was stuck in the mob of people trying to get on the ship.  Probably the most hectic time when the two differing groups are at the pier and crowding the terminal.  You're just going to be waiting in lines and getting frustrated if you get to the pier before boarding.  You're going to face big crowds and both coming and going if you get there too early, in addition to waiting in long lines.

I've waited for a couple of hours after my ticket had my boarding time, and found the boarding to be much more relaxed as the initial rush on and off the ship has subsided.

So, my recommendation?  Board 90s minutes after the boarding time on your ticket.

The only exception to that is if I'm in the Haven, where they have a nice waiting room with drinks and food before you're ESCORTED onto the ship.  But, even there, because of flights coming in early, I've arrived at the pier and just sat on my luggage as that area wasn't open yet (thinking somewhere around 9:00 a.m.).  If you're a Platinum or above, you get into a little waiting area and are boarded right after those "who need extra help" and the Haven passengers.  Not that big of a deal in my estimation

NCL usually staggers the boarding times.  So, to be safe, follow the boarding time on the ticket.

When do you print boarding tickets?  I am a new cruiser too and sail in April.

When you get a message that your edocs are available or see the link highlighted on you MyNCL page. The first page is the ticket for everyone on your reservation.

We get to the port at 10:15 to beat the crowds. You can arrive at any time (times on tickets don’t matter).

Priority boarding (Haven, Ambassador, Platinum) starts around 11:00. General boarding by boarding group (including Gold) start before 11:30.

There is a latitudes checkin line. That’s all you get as a gold.

Thank-you BirdTravels!  I received the e-mail about e-documents and printed them out.  I didn't see anything about tickets. I guess I was looking for something similar to airline tickets.
I am 70 and my husband is 75 so we are getting a late start when it comes to cruising.  Our upcoming cruise on the Encore was a gift and we are a bit frightened by it all.  We set sail Easter Sunday.

I want to tell you how much I enjoy your trip reports.  They are wonderful!  Thank-you!  🙂

My documents say that boarding will begin at 12:00 pm and please do not arrive earlier than 1 hour prior.

Boarding for priority starts before 11;00 and general boarding before 11:30. Again, we recommend showing up around 10:15 to avoid crowds and to get your vacation started early.

The first page of the edocs with your name and room number is your ticket. When you check in at the port, they will give you your room keys. From that point forward, that’s all you need. Just your room key.

Enjoy!

We went on the Encore over New Year's. Show up when you want to. They have never checked our time and we have sailed out of Miami 3 times.

I would recommend earlier than that. We got there early as our time said noon. We had 1 group ahead of us and then boarded well before 11 without issue.

If you don't have priority boarding (Gold does not qualify), I would get to the port around 9 to 9:30. That would likely guarantee you a spot in Group 1 or 2. They don't let anyone through security until around 10 a.m. And the first boarding time is around 11:15 for specialty-need passengers and The Haven. We boarded around 11:30 with Priority Access.

Also consider that traffic around Terminal B and C kinda sucks right now with the construction of the new NCL terminal and the traffics from Royal Terminal A where 6500 passengers are coming and going off the Symphony and Harmony.

On our 12/14/19 sailing, we arrived at the terminal around 10:45, breezed thru security and check-in. Waited till about 11:45 when our boarding group number was called and was at The Local ordering lunch by noon! Very painless.

Hi dshefter and welcome back, hope you had a great cruise! I just have a quick question based on your response above as we will be sailing on her in 2 weeks and purchased PA as well. Did you try or get Vibe passes? If so, where did you have to go to get them, I've read conflicting reports? This was my main reason for the PA purchase since there's not much public space on this ship. Thanks in advance and looking forward to your review. PR
