Dark Avenger Posted January 27, 2020 #1 Share Posted January 27, 2020 We are on the Homelands Aug 13th Star Cruise with a pre-trip to Berlin. Our plan is to fly direct Denver to Frankfurt and then take the ICE DB train to Berlin. There is a discount plan called the Rail&Fly program - has anyone taken advantage of it? How about this train? Sounds like the ICE train station is next to the Frankfurt Main airport. Wonder how long is prudent to schedule between flight arrival and getting on the Berlin train? Sounds like due to the popularity of this train, it's important to have a seat and ticket prior to arrival, even though they run hourly.
Peregrina651 Posted January 27, 2020 #2 Share Posted January 27, 2020 If you haven't already, also ask this question in the Ports of call section (or at least research it there) and see what comments you can find on Trip Advisor. I know you value the opinion of your fellow Viking travelers but since this not a Viking specific question, you may have better luck in Ports of Call, where the audience s SO much bigger. Rare knoxclone Posted January 27, 2020 #3 Share Posted January 27, 2020 Its about 4+ hours to Berlin on the train from flughafen Frankfurt - so coming from Denver thats a really LOOOONG day. Personally as much as I prefer to travel by rail in Europe, I would fly. Regardless, my suggestion to make sure you are on a ICE Direct train to avoid having to change trains and allow a minimum of 2+ hours between between your arrival in Frankfurt and the your scheduled train departure. Prebook and get a reserved seat.
MSEm Posted January 28, 2020 #4 Share Posted January 28, 2020 Any reason not to fly into Berlin? That may be a better option. Getting trough Frankfurt Airport and customs can take over an hour as allow extra time to clear customs and to get to the train station at the airport.
