denys222 Posted February 6, 2020 #1 Share Posted February 6, 2020 Feb.22nd on Equinox... my wife and myself are both sushi enthusiasts, but when we make sushi's at home it's usually created utilizing cooked or smoked fish. We don't like the idea of raw fish. Would these California rolls, as we called them in this part of the world, with cooked fish be available at the sushi @ 5 .. Also, we are into making our own wine, and we prefer it to most bought wines.(lower sulfites is main reason). Will it be possible to bring 2 bottles of "made at home wine" ? luv2travel90266 Posted February 6, 2020 #4 Share Posted February 6, 2020 California Rolls are made with crab or imitation crab and I do not believe they are made with raw fish. There is lots to eat elsewhere on board if you don't like the choices
Negrilgirl Posted February 6, 2020 #5 Share Posted February 6, 2020 Is there still sushi available at the buffet? It used to be available at 5pm each day.
luv2travel90266 Posted February 6, 2020 #6 Share Posted February 6, 2020 On my last Celebrity Cruise there was a good selection and as we prefer late dinner we would have it some at the buffet before going to the show.

luv2travel90266 Posted February 6, 2020 #8 Share Posted February 6, 2020 Not recent, several years ago. Next celebrity cruise is Sept 2020. Perhaps someone currently on board can confirm it hasn’t changed.

And as for the wine question, yes you can CARRY ON 2 bottles per stateroom.
Bretty Posted February 6, 2020 #10 Share Posted February 6, 2020 To the OP, I would encourage you to try sushi made with fresh raw fish, and even some fresh sashimi, if you’ve never tried it but don’t like the idea of it. Honestly, I don’t think you can beat the clean fresh taste o fish prepared simply like this, with a little wasabi, some shoyu and some gari to clean the palette. Washed down with a nice chilled sake or crisp white wine. It’s far better than a California roll, but you’ll never know if you don’t at least try. Enjoy your cruise either way. Not sure how 'fresh" the sushi on the ship is though. I've tried it a couple of times and it's been mushy like it was frozen and thawd a few times too many. I love good sushi/sashimi and have it at least once a week. I am fortunate to have a really nice place close to home that gets fresh fish from all over the world so I'm a bit spoiled. We get to try lots of unusual fish that you don't often see. Bluefin is still my favorite tough but Hirame (halibut) is a close second. The OP really should try some "real" sushi or sashimi, when fresh it's fantastic (well most if it anyway). Sushi on 5 has some very good appitizers and the lobster ramen is good. I've tried quite a few of the rolls most are ok but I don't think they are as good as any decent decent sushi bar on land will serve. But they do have some great cocktails!
denys222 Posted February 7, 2020 Author #12 Share Posted February 7, 2020 Thank you all for the info. I will make sure to try something new at sushi on 5 . I will need to Google "what is what" in the sushi world and also the customary ways of savoring this type of cuisine.

The appetizers and ramen were good, the rolls, frankly, were poor. Edible but badly rolled and lacking in flavor. Unlikely we would eat there again, but there are so few choices on the M ships, so who knows...

zitsky Posted February 7, 2020 #15 Share Posted February 7, 2020 Eel would be cooked. It's my favorite. Had some cajun style in Oregon 10 years ago. Delicious!
