Currencies for Noumea and Mystery Island

I am wondering what currencies people would suggest for Noumea and Mystery Island.

In Noumea you will need Pacific Francs although at the cruise ship terminal market and some tours from there may accept Australian, New Zealand or US currency. On Mystery Island the currency used is Vanuatu Vatu  but $AU may be accepted. If using $AU please use small notes as it is easier for the islanders.

We have been to both.  In Noumea we used the PFrancs.  Given our itinerary we had pre-ordered some from a local bank, but there is also an ATM across the street from the cruise ship terminal outside of a supermarket.  

 

On Mystery Island the vendors accepted $AU.

We are just back from our cruise where we stopped in Noumea and Mystery Island.  We were able to use Australian dollars everywhere we went. Grocery stores have tills with Australian currency.
