With the CDC now advising against nonessential travel to Italy, I'm sure Princess is aware that something needs to be done. It makes no sense that the CDC are advising this for the whole of Italy when the outbreak is currently only in the north of the country. For example, parts of Switzerland, Monaco, France, Austria etc. are much closer to where the outbreak is happening than Rome/Civitavecchia yet there are no advisories against travel to those destinations.

It seems like they still don't have any firm conclusions on incubation period, how long someone can spread the virus, etc. Why not make it a year? If it is a 90 day incubation everyone is going to get this because it will unstoppable. You would need to carry this quarantine over to planes, buses, trains, work, school - life. There is no way that the world can stop for that long. I agree with you that they don't have a firm grip on the incubation period, but seriously how long can you quarantine people? The panic and disruption to the economy are the true dangers of this disease. I hope that the remdesivir or something else pans out soon because otherwise this is going to go global and taking a cruise will be exactly as dangerous as going to the store etc.. I am not being cavalier when I say, we are going on our cruise in April, I have little or no fear of this virus, but I am young and healthy. I have talked to my father, and he is rightfully going to make any decision as it comes closer to cruise. Get cancel for any reason travel insurance and make your decision as this unfolds.

How about sporting events, schools, work etc.. My point was that if this disease is going to be everywhere, a cruise will be as dangerous as going to a movie etc. We cannot all just sit in our houses for 90 days or so. If it spreads everywhere, it will be equally dangerous everywhere. I am not going to worry about it until that time comes. You can worry yourself to death on this. It is still not as dangerous as many things we have come to live with. Smoking, diabetes etc. will kill many more people than this disease. I cycle a lot, and I know people that have been struck and killed by cars. I haven't thrown my bike out. I have chosen safer routes and practice very defensive cycling. I will do the same with this disease. I worry for my father. Less so for myself. My main concern is that I get it and transfer it to others, and at this point, the common flu is far more dangerous to my children than COV-19 seems to be. I am going cruising. I am going to see the world. That comes with some risks. I will judge what risks are worth it to me. Each person will have to do that for themselves.

H1N1, H1N5, SARS, MERS, Zika, HIV, Dengue, penicillin resistant bacteria, chloroquine resistant malaria, Lymes disease, hepatitis, coronavirus, the regular flu, the four other coronaviruses in circulation. The list is endless. I have been hit by cars three times on my bike. All three times I was 100 percent in the right. Each time I escaped serious injury. A friend of mine got necrotising fasciitis playing rugby in Fiji. My wife got dengue in the Cooks. I had ear infections that were resistant to penicillin from diving in Australia. My mother and two of my grandparents died of cancer. I have several relatives (as we all probably do) that have died of heart attacks. You are never totally safe. This disease is worthy of concern, but if you stop living every time something dangerous comes along, you might as well barricade yourself in your basement now. If you do though, don't forget that radon may be coming up through your concrete floor, and it will give you cancer. None of us are getting out of this alive in the end anyways. 100% agree!! We leave for our 32 day S. American cruise this week!💯

MJSailors Posted February 29, 2020 #263 Share Posted February 29, 2020 As I mentioned in a previous posting in this thread, my DHand I do have a concern about possibly becoming ill from the Corona19 virus, but we are more concerned with travel ramifications that may develop from the disease. The issues of possible quarantine, being ill away from home and possible denied reentry into the US caused us to cancel travel plans that were to take place next week. While watching Good Morning America this morning, I was interested in an interview with a doctor who was giving updates about the virus. Apparently, strains of Corona virus has been recognized as early as the 1960s and can be the cause of colds. However, the Corona 19 virus is a certain strain that is quite strong and a recent variation of the Corona virus. This information was corroborated when I was speaking to a friend whose son is an infectious disease specialist working in San Francisco on a fellowship. He and his family were planning a vacation to Rome this coming August. He has told his mother that those plans are scrubbed as he does not want his family facing health issues and/or travel ramifications from the Corona 19 virus. Travelers must make decisions that are comfortable for their situations. Some will cancel ,others will go ahead with plans. It will be interesting how this latest health crises will play out across the world in the next few months.

I agree with your assessment.....things are going to be really different real soon I suspect for travelers.....Oregon and Washington are each going to close some public schools from the recent cases.....the snowballing impact of this is certainly not something to discount.....I too would rather be home then quarantined on a cruise ship or in a foreign hospital or a hotel.....I am listening to the experts and following their advice!!!

Rare PescadoAmarillo Posted February 29, 2020 #270 Share Posted February 29, 2020 To those who say that COVID-19 is no more dangerous than influenza, it is. A lot. It’s just not yet nearly as widespread, and let’s hope it never is. But I would never step foot on a cruise ship, or fly for that matter, without getting an annual flu vaccine., which offers me some protection. I am not planning to cruise until COVID-19 either goes away or a vaccine is available. And that doesn’t even consider the ‘quarantine/missed ports’ issues. If I were young and healthy I would still be reluctant to travel right now because of that.

Her retelling is going to be more dramatic, with a flair to draw people in, as I believe someone said earlier, with an eye to a book later. She was given lemons, added vodka and is not just making lemonade, but gonna make a party possibly😁
