Rare 57eric Posted February 24, 2020 #1 Share Posted February 24, 2020 I'm thinking about buying CCL and have a couple of questions. The current benefit is only valid for cruises booked by the end of this week. I know this benefit has been around for years, but when might I expect an announcement that it has been renewed? Also, it is not applicable to "reduced-rate" bookings. Can I assume this means things like interline rates vs. promotions or sales? Thanks for any help with this. bluemarble Posted February 24, 2020 #2 Share Posted February 24, 2020 (edited) In the past, I've found the extension of the Shareholder Benefit announced in the Carnival Corporation & plc Annual Reports that can be found on this page. https://www.carnivalcorp.com/financial-information/annual-reporting The dates of these reports have been mostly the first week of March. Of course there is no guarantee that the benefit will be extended to 2021. But I would expect to see the 2019 annual report announcing extension of the shareholder benefit within a couple weeks. I have never had an issue getting the shareholder benefit in the past on promotional fares available to the general public including "Sailing Soon Savings" rates. thinfool Posted February 24, 2020 #3 Share Posted February 24, 2020 You are spot on about interline rates. But 'sale' rates available to the public still qualify for the SOBC. I have read conflicting reports about sailing on Casino rates....but I don't use the Casino so am not affected. As for renewal...this promotion has gone on for upwards of 20 years (in my experience...probly longer). Never suspended or chiseled down. It still was in effect back around '08 when CCL was selling in the $10. range. I do not expect a change anytime soon, or ever.

morrfran Posted March 13, 2020 #9 Share Posted March 13, 2020 I'm also on that QM2 holiday trip. Here's hoping things have settled enough to celebrate. I did that trip in December '18. I booked this when I cancelled HK>Cape Town in February.

Alanxx Posted March 18, 2020 #16 Share Posted March 18, 2020 One year ago today Carnival shares on the UK market were £41.85...…..at this moment they are £6.
majortom10 Posted March 18, 2020 #17 Share Posted March 18, 2020 Even at the low price they are at the moment it is a brave person who risks their money in buying shares. Can see the possibility of Carnival going under completely and shares being worthless.

Who knows it would take a brave man to buy shares in current situation because Carnival are far from out of the woods and the longer cruising is suspended the greater the chance that Carnival could go bump and lose everything. Trevor33 Posted April 6, 2020 #23 Share Posted April 6, 2020 what do you think the percentage chances are of that?
majortom10 Posted April 6, 2020 #24 Share Posted April 6, 2020 (edited) Sorry but above my knowledge and in present times anything can happen. But if cruise lines are suspended from service for a longer period say into 2021 and the control of coronavirus takes longer then there is every chance that some cruise companies will go to the wall. Chelsea1 Posted April 7, 2020 #25 Share Posted April 7, 2020 Well based on today's price I have made approx 48% return in 3 business days. That said it is very early days yet. I bought the shares as a long term investment and do hope to benefit from the shareholder on board credit in the future.
