What do you do when you have non-refundable OBC and are at a loss as to where to spend it?

Recommended Posts

Don't know about Princess but possibly it's like HAL where you can go to the front desk and donate unspent OBC to crew gratuities.

Go to the Casino double your money and cash out and get it all in cash.

I pay the auto gratuities (in advance) and give cash gratuities in excess of that amount so I don't really want to do that.

I was thinking about something like that but the smoke smell is really bothersome.

I know just what you mean. I don’t smoke myself. But getting my $135.00 made me feel better right away. I was only there about 15 minutes.

Go to casino, key in amount of unused OBC in a slot machine, take a couple spins (5 minutes tops) and then cash out.

Specialty Restaurants

Buy some strangers coffees or drink.

Buy t-shirts or other souvenirs for friend/family at home

Up the auto-gratuity amounts and reward hard working staff

Buy some completely unnecessary sparkly jewelry for yourself or someone else.

Pay for someone else's purchases at the shops

Buy some chocolates and hand them out

Pay it forward type stuff is always welcome energy in this often negative universe.

We have $200 each (all five people) and I will have additional $250 stockholder OBC, all non-refundable, on a 14-day Alaska cruise. Additionally, we have paid gratuities from the 3-for-free promo that the $200 OBC came from, and PBP and internet from the BSE add-ons. With the Crown Grill at $29pp upcharge, the five of us could eat there eight times in 2 weeks (!), only too bad, we hope to enjoy the MDR too much!

This is our first Princess cruise, so I don't have any suggestions, but I'm following the thread!

Go to the stores. We spent some of ours on Clinique products, everyone can use a great moisturizer and my husband got a hat.

Shore Tours, Princess shuttle to airport at end of cruise, merchandise from shops that you can give out later as birthday/christmas gifts, e.g. scarf/bracelet/watch etc.   Coffee card, bingo, spa, specialty restaurants, drinks, casino scratch cards, perfume, cosmetics, handbag/purse, duty free.   I never have any trouble finding what to spend it on.

I opted to get a refund on my prepaid excursions and rebooked as many as I could using about half of the OBC though I still have some scattered through various cruises.  In the future, it will probably be used at the Crown Grill (assuming I like it as I've never been but I like steakhouses a lot) then I'm not sure what with the remainder.

I had that problem on an Oceania cruise.  The shops were high end and there was almost no logo or souvenir stuff.  One tshirt, I think.  All restaurants were included.  I ended up booking a massage.  EM

I recently had this problem on another line, $1400 in non-refundable credit, crew gratuities have to be paid separately and it was a trans-Atlantic with only 1 port of call. Oh, and the fitness instructor was not on board (personal fitness couching had been my plan.) We don't drink, there is no casino on this ship, internet and laundry were already included.

Aside from a tour in port, I spent the rest in the shop.

My pro tip? Buy jewelry. It takes less room to pack! I did not do this and our suitcases were stuffed on the way home (2 jackets, trousers, dress, t-shirt, 2 sweaters and at the end I spent the last of it on small stuffed animals that were not at all related to any place we had been.)

I don't understand.  My wife assures me that this isn't the kind of problem she can't solve.

You could easily spend that much on one excursion in Alaska since they are more expensive than other cruises.

You can. The passenger services desk can give you a form to tranfer it to the tip pool. On the occassions we have done this, the process did not allow us to dedicate the monies to an individual crew member. We have found that it is a bit easier than attempting to buy toys and trinkets just to exhaust the OBC.

I've gotten jewelry three times using non-refundable on board credit.  DH also used to go to the casino and cash out after a little poker playing.  But the jewelry is a lasting memory.

Really? I always go way over. No matter how much OBC I have. We do every bingo for the max, slots max bet, drinks or a drink package, specialty restaurants, buy something in one of the ships stores.
