How early can we drop luggage at the ship. We will be boarding the Viking Orion on March 6 in Auckland, NZ.  We  fly in early and have 3 nights at the Hilton Auckland on Quay (end of pier where cruise terminal is located).

We would like to drop luggage and then go to the Aquarium  before we check in and board the ship.

Thanks for any information.

Depending on our plans for the morning, we will either leave the luggage at the hotel or drop it off at the “holding area” on the dock. If you leave it at the Viking holding area, they do have the area staffed. I believe we also got a claim ticket to get our luggage when we were ready to board. We were in Sydney several days in advance, so just went directly to check in. It was the worst checkin and boarding experience ever- we were in line for at least 40 minutes before getting on the ship where there were more delays. Oh, and it was very hot and some of the older passengers had to be seated under an awning.
No explanation given, but Viking got an earful on that one. Part of the problem was due to the use of laptops to check people in and the WiFi kept failing. The other problem was the people working the checkin were local contract people and had few resources.
Hopefully your experience will be very smooth!

What time have you been able to drop off luggage with the ship?  Hopefully we could drop off luggage and then go to the Aquarium before we check-in to board.  Would Viking be set up to receive luggage by 9am or 10 am?

Thanks for the help.

We did Auckland to Sydney so I cannot address boarding in Sydney, but from disembarking there I think it could be a bit complicated dropping off your luggage early.  I think it is much safer to leave it at the hotel and pick it before boarding.  Docking in Sydney can change, (ours did) and where we were docked was much more difficult to get to.  We were either bussed, or ferried.

We dropped of luggage in Auckland a few weeks ago. We were the first ones!  it was about 9 am because we had a free walking tour at the same time. Viking came into the terminal the day before so we had time to scope out the location. Auckland is beautiful but under a lot of construction on the water front.
