Where are the Coronavirus discounts?

Not trying to make light of this situation, but am curious. I’ve heard many stories of the impact the Coronavirus has had or will have on travel especially cruising and flying. I would think this would result in lower fares. But, I’m not seeing this. We have an upcoming seven-day Caribbean cruise on Princess at the end of May and a twelve-day Mediterranean cruise on HAL in September. The prices currently advertised for both cruises are higher than what we already have. We also have business class airfare through Flight Ease on the HAL cruise. Current airfare is $400 more per person than we already have. Maybe our cruises are the exception. Are others out there seeing lower prices since all the talk about the Coronavirus? I’m posting this on the Princess and HAL boards.

I've heard from more than one person around my office looking to cruise and take advantage of the "sales".  I mentioned, not sure there would be if the cruises are in demand.   Eg; folks that originally was cruising in Asia, may flip to Carb.   etc.

It just depends.

I know my cruise in Aug is still going up in $.   Like other posters, could be too far out.

Quite frankly, the travel industry is probably in shock right now and has not come up with a strategy to deal with the issue.  Also, how do you have a strategy when you don’t know what will be on the do not travel lost next week?  Some of the usual below the radar tools of reducing single supplement or casino offers do not seem to  be offered.  My guess is the best strategy right now is to just let the cancellations roll in, see where there chips fall, and build from there.  This is looking like a long haul.  One area that looks good is the new itineraries in Australia - good prices and safe to travel ATM with a country with strict bio containment protocols in place.

Princess is a business. They are taking a big hit having to refund people (like me) and doing the goodwill in giving people “free” credits towards future cruises. It wouldn’t surprise me if they just can’t afford to discount anything. Indeed I think prices may either stay the same or get higher...

You are not looking hard enough. There are some really sweet cruise deals being advertised by various cruise lines. Most are March to May cruises that include popular destinations such as Hawaii, Alaska, Pacific Coastal etc.

There are a few passengers from my roll calls that have decided to cancel their upcoming sailings, even though way outside areas with any risk.  However, our sailings aren't going down one little bit ... they're actually  higher than what we paid.  They may offer some upsells but, don't think they are coming out with any rock bottom pricing at this time.  They gave out a lot of future cruise credits and if those passengers are going to use them within the next year, I think they are keeping the prices at their current level or even higher for those itineraries in areas not hit by the Coronavirus.  It's almost as though it appears they may sail without being full vs lowering a lot of the prices.

I know Celebrity had some smoking prices for a few hours for a ship they are bringing over from Asia ... but, by the time I got to their site, they went back up.

I do see on some casino rewards sites that MSC is giving away some freebie sailings using your points ... out of Ft Lauderdale.  If I lived closer, I might consider it ... but that's clear across the country for us.

There are some great deals in Australia especially on the Sapphire itineraries as another poster has mentioned.   As an example, we are cruising in an aft vista suite for 14 days and the daily cost works out at $175 per person AUD.   That's about US $115 per day!   Seems cheap to us Australians.   There is a Carnival Splendor cruise departing at the end of July to the Pacific Islands which is only $399 interior twin for 8 nights.   Cunard recently had a 27-night round Australia cruise for $1799 interior twin or $2199 balcony twin - sold out in a day.   They are bringing these ships here unexpectedly and hence the good deals as they need to fill the cabins.    It is rare for us to see these sort of prices.

did you re-fare to that price ???

We decided to cancel. The incidence in Washington state today were what convinced me. We’re older and rather high risk. So better safe than sorry.

Our friends and us are booked on a TA and even though we have CFI we are hoping that Princess will cancel the cruise which will make refunds a lot simpler......no matter what though we will all be canceling early April if things do not improve....

We are seriously considering going back to Asia on the Golden in August.  We just came back from Cambodia and the Westerdam last week and had to miss most of a 42 day cruise due to COVID-19.  Waiting to see how things look in the next week or two.  Incidentally, I am over 80 and have leukemia, but don't consider that something to stop me from enjoying cruising.

I admit, we decided to go bargain hunting last weekend. We couldn’t find any great deals, and believe me we looked! We ended up booking the most expensive cruise we’ve ever reserved — on Viking. I guess the good news is it’s a very port intensive cruise to two of our bucket list locations, Norway and Iceland.

We booked a cruise on Viking last week, too!  And, yes, they are not cheap.  We're cruising the Danube in September for our 40th anniversary.  It looks like a wonderful trip!  Enjoy!!
