AliceS Posted March 1, 2020 #1 Share Posted March 1, 2020 Good grief....not only does my neighbor have to be in the cell phone....it’s on SPEAKER! Really?
StLouisCruisers Posted March 1, 2020 #2 Share Posted March 1, 2020 Ha! I know how you feel! On our South America/Antarctica cruise on Princess in January, our neighbors would Facetime their family pretty often. And they were loud talkers anyway so we could hear them with our slider door closed.
bEwAbG Posted March 1, 2020 #3 Share Posted March 1, 2020 That's when you start having pretend phone conversations with people yourself but about really oddball things. They'll stop to listen and then hopefully realize that if they're hearing you, you're hearing them. Some people are oblivious. 3

IPB4IGO Posted March 1, 2020 #5 Share Posted March 1, 2020 I volunteer at the local hospital and often see folks *inside the hospital* conducting loud conversations using their speaker on, so everybody within 50 yards can hear both sides of the conversation. I wonder if it has to do with hearing aids. Maybe those don't work well with regular phone earpieces?
woodworker&knitter Posted March 1, 2020 #6 Share Posted March 1, 2020 Some people are just plain rude and only think about themselves
Rare TiogaCruiser Posted March 1, 2020 #7 Share Posted March 1, 2020 And there’s the ones who insist on using it in the bathroom. I’ve been known on more than one occasion to flush the toilet lots of times just for them. 3
fatcat04 Posted March 1, 2020 #8 Share Posted March 1, 2020 This last cruise we had neighbors 2 balconies down listening to their music LOUD on their balcony. It was a "girls cruise" group from the sound of it and they liked rap, foul language stuff too. I was a bit surprised as that is odd on HAL. Thankfully it was not for long but even their occasional convos on the balcony were loud and included what Momma would call colorful language. Some folks are just rude and thoughtless. Live4cruises Posted March 1, 2020 #9 Share Posted March 1, 2020 About 15 years ago, when the only way to use a cell phone on the high seas was an expensive satellite phone, we had a balcony neighbor who was enjoying the status. One day, “yeah, I’m in the Med right now”. Grumbling, I went back inside and told DH that technically he was ON the Med, but if he didn’t shut up pretty soon, I’d help put him IN the Med! 2
Alberta Quilter Posted March 2, 2020 #10 Share Posted March 2, 2020 Just got home from a Caribbean cruise where someone spoke to another person via speaker in the Lido (by the pool) at breakfast! I could not believe it! They had a grand chat!
Rare CruisingAndDiving Posted March 2, 2020 #11 Share Posted March 2, 2020 I personally would love to see cell phones banned on ships! Many seem not to have the common sense to use them and not annoy others around them.

Wouldn't help, they'd just talk to each other with "outdoor voices".
Krazy Kruizers Posted March 2, 2020 #13 Share Posted March 2, 2020 We have experienced the loud cell phone users and the loud music players. Sadly nothing we can do about them.

I'm surprised at the number of people who are either clueless or just don't care that their neighbors can hear every word they say. And some I would like to erase from memory! 😉
Serious Cruisers Posted March 3, 2020 #15 Share Posted March 3, 2020 I had that problem a few times, not sure which ship your on, but I would 'blow dry' my hair as close to the balcony or on it whenever they used speaker phone.....they went in they couldn't hear..they figured it out (bad me lol) 1

cccole Posted March 3, 2020 #17 Share Posted March 3, 2020 (edited) You can also start participating in the conversation being held. At that point they realize they are too loud. Possibly they do not realize they are intruding on their "neighbors" enjoyment of their cruise and nicely letting them know would be enough. And, might HAL put a small sign on the balcony reminding cruisers that there are others within close proximity and please be respectful when talking, playing music, and using cell phones? I know people should not need to be reminded to be respectful but sometimes it helps. Cherie Edited March 3, 2020 by cccole
