That or they can't get over there.  Or nobody wants to come home and stay there for 2 weeks and get poked by someone in a hazmat suit every other day 🤔

It is most unusual, the lack of posts, but I get it. Hopefully these boards will get back to their usual activity within the next couple of months.

 

Within the last week, I have booked Asia myself. I booked DH and I on the Grand Princess, 28 day sailing out of Singapore for March 23, 2021. Most of my research for this trip so far has been in regards to some land touring we want to do in Thailand and Cambodia pre-cruise, so I haven't moved into the ports planning as of yet. 

 

We returned from a month in Asia on January 25, and have several other international trips booked for 2020. Until someone tells us we can't go on any of those trips, we'll continue forward. But I think everyone has to make their own call, it should be a vacation, and if it's giving someone more concern than enjoyment to think about it, then they probably should not go.

Got back from a 2 week land tour of Thailand and Mynamar 2 weeks ago .Am done with my self imposed quarantine. People have been treating me like a leper! The trip was great as the Chinese tourists were not present which made for no problems with crowds. Almost backed out a week before the trip but am sure glad I went. Our guide told us many people were cancelling upcoming tours. Timing couldn't have been better!

Upside to all of this is MIL (who lives in So. China) tells us she won't be visiting us this year  😎

We are doing a river cruise to Vietnam & Cambodia with Scenic leaving Uk this coming Saturday, we’ve be assured there’s no issue with us continuing our tip. We’ve followed foreign office sites for any changes in advice & contacted our insurance company who advise if we cancel we there will be no recompense as there’s no official advice against continuing our trip. Is anyone on this forum doing the scenic spirt river cruise starting in  Ho Chi Mhin next Sunday?

For the most part, things in Asia are under control.

Now everyone here is talking about avoiding travel to the USA - where the situation is not under control.

Well, hello ...  Cruiselines are now - this week - cancelling cruises, full stops, for 30+ days in the Americas, in the efforts (a bit late, IMHO) to stop and slow the community spread of COVID-19.  We cancelled/postponed an escorted land-based trip this Easter to Vietnam and would've scouted out the popular port stops along the South China coastal towns ... next year, hopefully.   Extended family cancelled Japan and one of the nieces staying "home" instead of seeing London on Spring break.

 

As the clinical profile of this highly contagious "ninja" virus become better understood from China's medical community, it's suggesting that we have a long way ahead (keep in mind, there is no vaccine or "cure" for SARS that surfaced first in 2002) and probably will have to learn dynamically to live & deal with it, much like the seasonal influenza virus variants ... Italy, France Spain & the Middle East, etc. are escalating their measures to deal with this infectious virus.  Airlines around the world are throttling and cutting flights ... the exception being missions-critical cargo, i.e. medical, PPE and life saving supplies.  

 

Live healthy & stay happy, count those lucky star - if not from that AFT balcony, then do so from the quiet backyard or front porch, safely; and, imagine ...  Think about the ship's crews and all others affected, the economic fallout hitting fast & hard with the travel & hospitality sectors, and many others.  

 

Meanwhile, hospitals are activating their major disaster (MCI) plans and escalating their incident command plans ... dipping into the SNS (strategic national stockpile held by FEMA in the U.S.) for reserved medical & PPE supplies ... reading up a guide on responding to bio-incidents.  Salute, respect, recognize and honor the first responders and those frontline in the medical & health care community dealing with all these - thank them with an elbow bump, not a handshake or hug.  More than washy washy, hand wash often with soap & running water and dispose of soiled & used "waste" properly.

Corona Virus (Covid-19) was first identified in Wuhan, Hubei Province, Peoples Republic of China.

Based on that, the US Government is now calling it the "Chinese Virus".

 

Norovirus (Norwalk Virus) was first identified in Norwalk, Ohio, United States of America.

Based on that, should we not be calling it the "American Virus"?

Asia is still here and moving along like the rest of the World.  My wife & I are still at our home in the Philippines. The country is under a lock down with limited travel and limited business open. Most hotels are closed, most retail is also closed here. No domestic air travel and very limited international air travel. Food stores are still open and retail serving basic needs doctors, food suppliers, etc. 

 

Life is moving on here. Have talked to my friends in Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, all are working through the current issues. Once the virus is over Asia will be back again strong and ready to welcome tourist again.

Philippines still has a very low number of deaths 2400 with a population of 110 million. But things are still not normal here. Very had to travel domestic or International.  The only way you are flying into the country is if you are a citizen, married to a citizen, hold a full resident visa, or Government travel. Everyone is subject to Covid-19 testing upon return and quarantined to hotel room while waiting for tests results. Travel between provinces is very limited. Hoping things open up here soon as the  country is in trouble from the lock downs and quarantines.
