Will be in Skagway in June on a Royal Caribbean cruise, was wanting to do the White pass Railway excursion but there are several to choose from. Any recommendations are welcomed: white pass railway + Dog Sled Encounter; White Pass Railway + Suspension Bridge; White Pass Railway + Skagway Highlights?? Was planning to book through Royal Caribbean but can not decide which one?

White Pass Railway and Dog Sledding will take you via bus to Caribou Crossing where you will have lunch, play with sled dog puppies, ride what appears to be a VW chassis pulled by sled dogs (not free), and visit the museum.  A bus will take you south to Fraser where you will catch the train.  On the return train trip, sit on the right side of the train as the left side view will be a rock wall.

If you are a photographer, go out on the platform between train cars for unobstructed photos.

I would also look at Chilkoot tours they offer a small van instead of a large bus. Also visit www.cruiseportinsider.com for more AK port excursion ideas. Also look at the WP&Y RR website. If you are willing to walk a bit you can even buy your tickets at the station and save even more $$.

We've done the train out of Skagway many times. The Bennett lake journey is the one we have enjoyed the most  https://wpyr.com/excursions/product/bennett-scenic-journey/ https://wpyr.com/excursions/product/bennett-scenic-journey/

If your going to take the bus/train combo it's best to ride the bus up in the morning and take the train back in the afternoon, there can be fog in the morning. Try to sit on the right side of the bus going up and on the right side of the train coming back down, you'll see more that way. I like to stand out on the platform on the train.

I’ll be in Skagway this July (fingers’ crossed) and taking the CHILKOOT Tour. I’ve heard and read wonderful reviews about this company. Earlier this year I spoke with the Owner and I must agree.

We have done Chilkoot Tours twice. Once train up and bus down. This was the all day with lunch at Caribou Crossing. On the way down everyone fell asleep and missed the scenery.

I advise taking the bus up in the morning. The driver will keep an eye out for animals to photograph. Lunch at Caribou Crossing is good and plentiful. It's fun to walk around their little museum and gift shop after eating. If you're lucky there will be puppies to play with and pet. Taking the train back down the mountain will give you some incredible views. And yes, sit on the right side on the train down.

DON'T FORGET YOUR PASSPORT. A friend forgot theirs once and held up the whole bus while they ran back to their stateroom to get it.
