New NCL cancellation policy 3/6/2020

were scheduled for 3/15 out of san juan. I still want to go, husband does not. We will be out airfare, CC points transferred for OBC (pretty sure), and probably all of our excursions (not booked through NCL).....the airfare was $1400 alone. I really do not want to "pay" to go to work instead of cruising on what I think will be a very empty sailing.

we are booked through CAS so I wonder if the FCC could be applied toward a future CAS booking so we could get the same deal, otherwise, we would be paying a lot more on a future cruise.

If we go (which I am really pushing for) I wonder if we will be able to get a cheap upgrade when we get on board from our balcony to a suite or something since I imagine, SOOOO many ppl will be mass canceling.

Thank you for sharing this. I interpret this to mean they will be refunding my port charges to me if I cancel but the beverage package charges are now future cruise credits. I also like that the FCC carryover to a future sailing if not used on one sailing. Overall, I am satisfied with all of this given the current situation. It seems pretty fair to me and resolves a lot of unnecessary stresses. Now to see what Norwegian Airlines, not related to NCL, is going to do about my Rome flight, if anything. Although I suppose that is still covered under my CFAR policy....thanks again.

Hi, are you talking about Port Fees or Port Excursions? Which Q and A are you looking at?    I am still trying to figure out if we will get back our Port Fees and Taxes now or are they an FCC?

Anyone find out how this applies to cruisers who Recieved  casino certificates to book a cruise and want to postpone?

Wondering this as well! Scheduled to cruise in April and with the casino certificate I used I got a great deal for 2 in a balcony room. Really hoping they will either refund us, or honor the comp/certificate for a future sailing. Otherwise the $1,400 I paid is essentially being held hostage and if I don't get another casino offer I'd have to book a cruise at true cost $3,000+ just to use the $1,400 I already put in.

No you are missing the point. Its not possible to avoid EVERYTHING. It is possible to avoid places that may be huge spreaders of an illness and lessen the chances of coming down it. Youre ridiculing someone who has decided cruising is not a great idea right now. Risks going on a cruise right now is not equal to the risks of being in your own town and deciding who youre going to expose yourself to.Theres a reason why airlines and cruise ships are doing what theyre doing.Because its a bigger risk to travel than not travel right now.

You are so correct.  My husband works for a mega huge company worldwide.  They have cancelled all meetings, picnics, any type of large gathering.  Even sports events is game only , no fans. There is a world of difference in going to walmart, grocery store, mall and being packed on a cruise ship.

Many are saying they dont worry about Caribbean cruises and i must say that was my initial thinking. The problem with that is people are coming from everywhere that will be on the ship and many may have been exposed and not know it.

also you cant count on CDC to make smart decisions. Example is letting the man that was on the princess cruise from hell that had so many cases that multiplied daily, take the next damn cruise. So what do you know he has now exposed the next batch of people.  Why wasn’t he put in land quarantine like everyone else. Just saying.

Port fees don't seem to be spelled out in any of the documents to passengers or TAs  or in the faq.  Since port fees are something that the cruise line pays to the ports, it really isn't their money but is money held in trust so to speak to pay at each port.  So I would say it's a good maybe that they will be returned?

I want to know how the FCC is credited - to each person or to the person who booked the cruise?

I am looking at this answer about what will my FCC include. I am assuming "port charges" are not cruise fare or ancillary items sold by NCL.....

The following will be applied to the FCC:

  • Cruise fare
  • Flight arrangements booked through Norwegian Cruise Line
  • Any ancillary items sold by Norwegian Cruise Line except Onboard Credits (OBC)
    • Ancillary items such as flowers, dining or beverage packages, among others.
  • Prepaid service charges

I agree with you. It's like when an employer withholds payroll taxes from it's employee. They have to either turn that money over to IRS or refund it to employees. They have no legal right to the money.

I agree it's a bit muddy. I guess I'm still holding out some small hope that I will go on the cruise, but eventually I'll reach out to NCL to get an answer. I imagine they are pretty busy with incoming calls and inquiries.

Many airlines are allowing people to change their flights.

I would also want to go. 🙂

Yeah, I have no idea about Expedia. There's a reason I won't book anything with them anymore.

But this is on their website: https://www.expedia.com/service/#/myTrips/25643. I'm guessing the wait for customer service on the phone would be LOOOOONG.

I have a cruise in 2 weeks that I'm holding out for - because of the good deal I got, the FCC probably won't begin to cover the replacement cruise if I have to cancel .

But I also have a cruise in 2 months that is already a convoluted mess because it involves the changes to the Star sailings - so I have FCC, OBC and discounts and all sorts of perks.  And on top of that, the TA that negotiated everything is no longer at the agency.

That's what folks on Diamond and Grand Princess thought....until it was discovered after the cruise ended there had been an infected passengers onboard. Continue enjoying your cruise, but exercise good hygiene and increased caution onboard and ashore.

I read somewhere that Princess was lax about screening the passengers embarking the Grand Princess on Feb 11.

We embarked the NCL Spirit on Feb 14 and we were screened, and we all were fine throughout the 17 day cruise from Rome to Dubai. Seems we left Italy in time.

What did your screening include? A temperature check? A representation of where you did or didn't travel recently? The screenings as I understand them are "security theater". Just because you don't present symptoms at screening doesn't mean you are not infected. And vice versa, not everyone with symptoms, like a fever, is infected, especially with an incubation period of up to 14 days.

Everyone's passport was checked by officials (not the check-in reps) for their nationality and any stamps from high risk countries. Our temps were checked twice - once as we entered the terminal and again after the hand luggage security before we went upstairs to the check-in area. And … at that time it was 30 days, not 14. There were two pieces of questionnaire that we had to fill out and sign.

I’ve read all the info regarding the cancellation policy. I just have one question:

I’m booked on Gem Boston/Bermuda 5/8/20. I also have the Pride Hawaii booked in October 2021. If I cancel the Gem, can I apply the FCC to the Pride cruise? All the language seems to reference a “new booking”

The number of cases is increasing daily in the Boston area, so Im doubtful that I would enjoy this cruise.

Thanks,

Brian

When you use Cruise Next certificates, they also say new booking but they let you use them at any time until you are paid in full.  So while I really can't say what they will do, I would try.  I have a cruise booked in October so if I get any FCC from a cancellation I'm hoping that's where it goes.

Mike Pence just made an announcement on TV that changes are coming in 72 hours to how cruise lines handle cruises for the American public. We currently have three cruises booked so wondering what changes are in the pipeline.

Do you have a link? I just searched and can't find this announcement anywhere.
