Expectation of lower fares?

Since news of the cancellation policy by RCI, I fully expected cruise rates to drop significantly but haven't seen that so far much like after 9/11.  Has anyone else thought that or have you seen that?  Maybe I'm a little too early for that to take place and perhaps we will see the drop next week.  What do you think?

I think the current environment will inevitably drive prices down irrespective of the cancellation policy.  As people are fear mongered by the press cruising will take a hit and prices, in the short term, will definitely drop.  I think their new cancellation policy is designed to limit people cancelling by giving folks the maximum amount of time to decide before cancellation becomes necessary. 90 days is a long time, so more people are apt to cancel at 90 days rather than pay and risk a deterioration of the situation that would preclude them cruising.  By making the cancelation period 48 hours people are more apt to just hang on and realize that they are probably good to go. That's my speculation anyways.

You will see prices drop more if/when it gets to the point that Royal is having trouble filling their ships. I have already seen price drops in several of our booked cruises, so it is already happening, at least for a few cruises

I think prices on close-in cruises will drop as people cancel and RC wants to fill their spots on the ship. But beyond that prices might actually increase because you will have all of these people with FCC that need to book cruises, creating demand.

I'm stunned that my June 21 cruise prices havent fallen. I am wondering if they will fall after final payment date for existing reservations

Saved over $2500 last 3 weeks with existing bookings. Agree not there yet with the post 9/11-Anthrax scares. Back then got one 5n cruise for $9(plus $50 tax) and a 7n Cat B for $799, both Solo with no single supplement and still sailed with 15% cabins empty on newest/largest Royal ships

On our June 1st cruise out of Barcelona on VOS the balconies and suites were running almost 2k over ocean view. I just upgraded our ocean view to a balcony for $135. Now we just hope Europe is still open in May/June.

How low can the cruise price drop? Hope the would drop the price of the Drink package... I will be on the Harmony in may...

I am expecting quite the opposite....I could be wrong. My thinking is that Royal will have to make up for lost revenue somehow and the easiest way to do that is with all these people with FCC's that expire by Summer 2021. If you don't pay a little more for your next cruise you stand to lose the FCC which not many people will want to do. People with FCC's are captive customers. I also fully expect Royal to increase gratuities in the very near future to subsidize the lost wages of the crew. My advice if you haven't done prepaid grats yet to add them now so the price is locked in. 

 

People will say that this may scare some people off of cruising and that prices will come down accordingly but I just don't see that happening.

The people who have to take the hit, are cruisers like us, who decide not to cancel. We had high rates, are within final payment, can’t get a refund, and the next available category is still more money.

 

seems under the circumstances, Rccl would allow some price adjustments.  My cruise is coming up soon, and I don’t have enough time to cancel, get a future cruise credit and rebook they were telling us at least two -three weeks to get a future cruise credit certificate. I would have to wait to get the certificate, and hop that our cruise still had available cabins that we want, for the lower price.

Maybe on the coasts prices have dropped. Mine April 26 out of Galveston is a tad up.

 

So far only one person on my roll call is cancelling because they were flying out of NY. They are afraid of the airport.

 

Galveston is a drive to port mostly so prices are always a bit higher.

True, all true.  I was hoping that the prices would drop, but it very could well be the opposite.  Let's hope not!  I agree that gratuities could go up, but maybe, just maybe the entire cruise industry is taking a huge hit.  Nothing so far on my cruise out of Bayonne on Lady O, but I have already save a bundle.  So I guess we will just have to wait and see.  Thanks everyone!

I just grabbed a 6d balcony on Liberty on 4/05 for $403 pp (7 night).  Cheapest I’ve ever seen it. Wasn’t really in the market for a cruise this soon but couldn’t pass it up.

I'm solo, but my date april 26 a inside says over 400, I'll go look and see.

 

Do you have just 2 pax? I havent seen that rate, but it's hard on rcl site, as when I go there to mock book other dates it keeps flipping me right to my booked cruise. Annoying

It keeps jumping from main page right to my booked cruise. I cant see this price, but looks awesome.

This came up for only 2 cabins on Friday night. Yes, it was $403 pp and I booked for 2.  That price was including my D discount.

If it is before your final payment date you can call and get the lower price - this is the normal procedure, not new for CV. Inside final payment you can't get a lower price, although you can upgrade cabins and pay the difference in price, which would presumably be a small amount or even no extra charge if prices have dropped a lot. If you just want the lower price you would have to cancel and rebook and apply your FCC once you receive the certificate.

My last minute booking for brilliance out of Tampa 3/26 4 day cruise to Cozumel was 568.00 for ocean view  double, after our 350.00 casino discount. 
we booked because we needed 8 friggan points to be prime for next year that they screwed up.

there  were ino insides, no balconies and no suites when we booked. 
since then then all categories have opened up except suites and the price has close to doubled. How can this be?

After today’s wonderful news I am curious to watch what this cruise does price wise.

in the mean time I threw in a lowball royal up offer for a balcony in case we are exiled to the middle of the ocean.

never been in anything but a balcony or suite so it should be interesting.

I just cancelled my march 15th cruise -- last week no cabins available, now (since the cancellation policy) a bunch have opened up.

 

I paid $2100 CDN for 2 in an obstructed, they want $4568 CDN for the same room now.  No logic in pricing...IMHO
