Cruises To Nowhere?

From the Northwest a quick stop in Victoria would cover them.  From South a stop in Ensenada- passengers wouldn't even need to go ashore. From Florida as someone said a stop in Half Moon Cay would do it

I think the time has come for cruise ships to be excluded from that PVA once and for all.  If the President proposed this and it passed he would suddenly have more fans at least for a while.  The PVA should at least be overturned for Alaska and New England cruises.

 

And, as soon as you do this, the Staten Island ferries, the Washington State ferries, the Alaska Marine Highway, and all the dinner cruise, casino cruise, and whale watching boats would sue to get exemptions from the PVSA.  It is, after all, the Passenger Vessel Services Act, not the Cruise Ship Services Act, and it is based on the international definition of what a passenger vessel is (any vessel that carries more than 12 people for hire).

This is what the cruises to Hawaii used to do, a "technical" stop in Ensenada at midnight just to get the papers stamped.  This has been disallowed by CBP for several years now.  But, it seems that Canada is considering not allowing cruise ships into ports, so that option would be out as well.

Well thanks for the clarification but to me the whole thing needs an overhaul.

 

Suddenly my love of cruising had changed a lot.

Wad gonna be a banner year for me with 9 cruises.

So far cancelled two one on Princess and one on RCI. But my HAL to Norway I hope in June is on.

The ones on Cunard were often events in themselves, with famous lecturers or to a solar eclipse. Not sure that model would work today.

Some good points made here. My initial reaction was "no way" -- I sail for the ports and itinerary. I consider a day at sea to be "forced inaction" lol.  I do make sure there is one sea day every so often, just to make sure I get my batteries recharged. But an extended number of days at sea does not really appeal to me and it's one reason I've avoided TAs.

 

HOWEVER...

 

If there was scenic cruising -- for example, Alaska, Norwegian fjords, Chilean fjords, Antarctica -- I could just about deal with it assuming it was the only option.

 

Also I had not thought about the enrichment as offered on Cunard crossings (and formerly on my favorite Voyages to Antiquity). I might be willing to consider a cruise of up to 7 days with some special enrichment/lecturers aboard.

On the lowest decks install portholes long oars to propel ship and save on fuel. Thus they could prolong days of the cruise. Passengers on low decks cold get reduced fare for rowing.
