Since the masks only protect others from you, if your sick. Wouldn't it make more sense that everyone wore one. Then no one would would be passing around there germs🤷‍♀️

Well, I guess, good luck getting the rest of the ship to wear them though.

also like the medical professional was saying, they are not required to wear masks to keep others from getting sick.   i dont believe this theory they dont help prevent you getting others germs.

If you use N95 masks or higher and glasses to avoid touching your eyes and regularly wash your hands you will be way more protected than the average joe. Is it fail proof? nope, but it will for sure grant more protection.

Thats what I plan to use in my flights and on port during embarkation and disembarkation.

If someone doesnt like it, well fk em.

.Whenever, I see a person with a mask, I keep my distance because it indicates sickness.

Now when you wear gloves all that is on my mind is that your gloves are unsanitary. Just as a point, anytime in the past that TSA needed to look in my carry-on, I have asked them to put on a fresh pair of gloves. They have always complied.

There were multiple TSA officers with masks and gloves on at the checkpoint last week.

The news says "don't hoard masks.... because healthcare providers need them for protection when treating infected patients....". Hmmmm.... so masks like in post #18 above won't help you protect yourself.... but will protect healthcare providers. Hmmm....

Easy answer. Yes

Easy solution.  Don't go.

You might be frowned upon but I wouldn't let that stop you if I were you.

Go on your cruise and wear your mask.

Don't be bullied. I wear a mask for most of my shift in the hospital that I work in. It protects me from catching something, and also catches anything I might be gifting by accident. There are different types of masks, some are better than others, but any mask and gloves will cause you to hesitate before you put your fingers in your face. It is not true what they are saying about them being ineffective. It is to stop the public panicking and buying every mask on the planet, so that people like me can't get them, as that will bring down the hospital system. We are already starting to experience shortages where I work. If you have a mask, wear it. If someone laughs at you, don't worry about it. Better to be laughed at by some low rent loser, than be going to your own funeral.

While true that a mask won't protect you from everything, it does protect from some things.  That's why immunocompromised patients have to wear them.

I work in a hospital, and we don't wear them on a regular basis, however when entering a surgical area or compounding an IV they must be worn.  They are also worn when contact precautions are indicated.

Because healthcare professionals are in close contact with potentially infected people.  They are close to their faces and have a much higher chance of getting directly sneezed or coughed on than the "regular Joe" walking down the street.

Save the masks for the people who really need them.

When they are dealing with someone who is known to be infected, they don't wear surgical masks, they wear N95 masks. Those do offer protection against viruses if they are properly fitted and you know how to wear them.

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/hcp/respirator-use-faq.html

Look, if you want to wear a mask, wear a mask. People will look at you funny and stay away from you because they think you are sick. If you wear it while boarding, I think there's a good chance you'll get pulled for extra screenings. But if you actually want to not get sick, carrying hand sanitizer in your pocket and using it often will be much more effective. Coronaviruses are easily killed and and alcohol based hand sanitizer that is at least 60% alcohol will do it. Yes, wearing the mask will be better than not wearing it if someone was to cough or sneeze in your face (which is why doctors and health care professionals wear them, because they are around sick people all the time and much more likely to get bodily fluids splashed in their face). But I can't say I've ever experienced people coughing or sneezing directly into my face so that isn't something I"m worried about. Someone sneezing into their hand, then touching a handrail, and then me touching that same handrail later is. And using hand sanitizer prior to eating or touching your face would be a good defense against that.

Wear a mask!  Who cares what anyone thinks.  If people laugh at you......(speechless really, would people really do that? are we in high school)....but you might end up having the last laugh when they get sick and you don't.

I am a dental professional and have worn a mask with every patient for over 30 years.  I wasn't wearing it to protect them from me that is for sure. It was worn to protect me from them.  All the OSHA guidelines are in place to protect the worker and all the guidelines require wearing a mask.

You are also putting your face near people's open mouths on a regular basis; greatly increasing your contact with their saliva. Not quite the same thing as walking around and living your life.

Masks are not as effective since most people don't use them properly.  Along with the fact that germs can enter your body through your eyes as well as your mouth and nose.  Masks don't cover eyes.

Let me ask you.

If you got on an elevator that was packed next to someone wearing rubber gloves and a mask, or were in line at the buffet behind someone wearing gloves and a mask,  how would you feel. My first thought is why in the world did they decide to go on a cruise.

Furthermore, if you are going to protect yourself why stop at mask and gloves as PPE.  Face mask, Tyvac suit, tapping up, setting up a decontamination area would be the way to go.

Most people that decide to go on their cruise now, are more or less letting other passengers know that they realize that there is a new virus going around, but they don't want to let it dictate there lives. They are hoping the other passengers feel the same and are hoping the mode on the ship will be upbeat.

   Just my opinion.

My first thought would be "I wonder what their screen name is on Cruise Critic".   🙂

It is actually pretty easy and fun to make your own mask. Any barrier that you can put between your face and someone else's will probably help. I know the CDC and everyone else tells you not to make your own mask, but if I were in Northern Italy right now, and really needed to go out and stock up on bean burritos, I would be making a mask. Where I work, as fast as we put masks out people are stealing them to take home. I try to get a full shift out of one, and then take them home to dry out on my kitchen window sill. I have been doing that for a couple of weeks now. If we ever run out at work, I will be recycling those ones. Otherise, I would make my own, rather than go without.

Oh, but some random stranger on a cruise ship might look at me and think I'm stupid! People think I'm stupid all the time. I don't care.

Actually on the over 30 cruises I have been on, when I see someone with a mask(there is usually one person) I think,

"they are so smart".  Especially when I am seating in the theater for 1/2  hour with people coughing all around me. I think, I wish I had a mask.

But, the reason I quoted you was because you have the right attitude.  Who cares what people think?

I see people who are obese in speedos.......do I care, nope, let them.

I see the matching outfits people wear......do I care, nope, let them.

I see horrible makeup jobs/ toupees on sideways ..........do I care, nope, let them.

Hundreds of tattoos on people......do I care, nope, let them.

Just let people do what they want with their own personal space/body.  It doesn't affect you.  Why are people so judgmental? This might be a troll post, but it really brings out the true nature of some people, which to me is sad.

Live and let live! If you love cruising so much, enjoy your cruise and stop worrying about what other people are wearing.

How can anyone go on a cruise vacation and have a good time only to worry so much about getting sick that you have to wear a mask and gloves.......really?      I would cancel and stay home!!

Book another cruise months out when all of this settles down.

I was on a cruise once where two passengers were walking around in a full head to toe panda suit. I am positive that they were not cruise line employees because they didn't have an escort person and were offering to take photos with people and didn't have a photographer with them. Here I thought they were just weird. But now I"m thinking they were just trying to protect themselves from the flu! 😉

I was on the Bliss with a bunch of Furries. Talk about PPE.

I would have ran the other direction.   Panda's are Chinese.  High risk bears.
