Free suite upgrade eligible for double Mariner credit?

Recommended Posts

Recently, HAL showed a price drop after final payment. Our travel agent contacted HAL to ask if they would offer any kind of compensation. We knew we would not get a re-pricing before he called them, but kept our fingers crossed for a little something. We had been booked in a verandah.

We were pleased to learn that HAL offered to upgrade us to a signature suite stateroom at no extra charge. This was not an upsell situation.

I'm just wondering if getting upgraded to a suite would qualify us for the double Mariner points for that voyage. I know upsells to a suite do not qualify.

Thanks in advance for any information anyone may have on this from your past experience.

Stay healthy,

Paid upsell  - yes double credits.

Free upgrade - no.

Either way I don't believe a Signature Suite qualifies for double credits.  Neptune Suites and above.

Signature suites and veranda suites qualify for double credits.  However, a free upgrade does not.

My understanding is that all suites including Vista Suites qualify for double credits, but you have to buy them at a listed rate. Paid upsells at a discounted rate do not give double credits.

I took an upsell to Vista Suite on the Zaandam and did not receive double credit and that is how it was explained to me.

ETA: so obviously a free upgrade would not give you double credits, either.

Ditto to what crystalspin and catl said.  No Mariner Credits for paid upsells or free upgrades.  But enjoy your suite!!

Not quite. You DO get the credits if the original price plus the upgrade price equals the current "published fare". As crystalspin said:

You are correct!  Now could you please call the Mariner Society on my behalf and convince them of that?  They won’t give it to me.  😠

As always it depends!   If the paid Upsell is the same as a published fare they will honour the double credits or not if it is less.   Now if I could only understand why our son got double credits for a free upgrade to vista and we didn’t in the same cabin 😂

When I took the Zuiderdam to Panama in 2010 I had a SY signature suite.  I took a last minute upsell to a SA.  I was told I would get double credits because it was an upsell not an upgrade.  SY - at least back then - did not qualify for double credits.

I did get double credits BTW.

You already had a signature suite booked so that entitled you to the double credits right off the bat.

So what you received was correct.  You went from suite (SY) to better suite (SA) both of which qualify for the double credits. 😉  The upsell wouldn’t have qualified but the fact that your initial booking was in a Suite did.

Nope - Signature Suites count for double credits.

Anything with the word Suite in it (including Vista Suites) count for double mariner credits.

We have had 5 Neptune Suites and 1 Vista Suite and several were upsells and we received double day bonuses on every one of these cruises. The others were deeply discounted casino rates with casino cash or fun play and we also received double day bonuses on them. We are booked on the Veendam that sails April 1st and yesterday accepted a very reasonable upsell to go from an ocean view to a Neptune Suite and we were told we would receive double day bonus. We have never had a free upgrade to a suite on Holland, so can't speak to whether or not that would receive the double day bonus.

My experience was I did get double credits on a free upgrade.  That was a few years ago and it may have been my sister's wrangling that secured the upgrade. (she owns the agency)
