Will be interesting to see thus develop. Sounds pretty much impossible to determine where she caught the virus. Could just as easily have been during her travel to and from the cruise. Was she COVID positive on the cruise? Maybe. When did she experience symptoms? Lots of unanswered questions.

Hope she is doing well.

Article says she sailed on the first and disembarked on the 8th.  That leads me to believe she picked up the virus at about a week prior to boarding since it is usually around 14 days from infection to showing symptoms, right?

14 days is the usual max until you show symptoms... although it could be longer.

CDC page has symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure*

*This is based on what has been seen previously as the incubation period of MERS-CoV viruses.

I think median time to fever is something like 4-5 days, 14 days is basically the 95%+ you're not infected.

 

Added in edit: We finished travel basically a week ago precisely, and since we're fever and symptom free we're likely fine (also no known exposure to covid, just looking at the fact that we traveled in general as our only "risk" factor).

Incubation period — The incubation period for COVID-19 is thought to be within 14 days following exposure, with most cases occurring approximately four to five days after exposure [32-34].

In a study of 1099 patients with confirmed symptomatic COVID-19, the median incubation period was four days (interquartile range two to seven days) [33].

Using data from 181 publicly reported, confirmed cases in China with identifiable exposure, one modeling study estimated that symptoms would develop in 2.5 percent of infected individuals within 2.2 days and in 97.5 percent of infected individuals within 11.5 days [35]. The median incubation period in this study was 5.1 days.

Argh.  Not what I wanted to read.  Wish we could find out her cabin number but I suppose she would've possibly infected many other areas of the ship too.
