Apparently the new guidelines(people over 70 have to have a 'fitness to sail' letter. It's now in place. The following article is for Carnival Fantasy sailing out of Mobile:

https://wreg.com/news/carnival-cruise-passengers-say-they-were-denied-boarding-due-to-existing-health-conditions/

"The Carnival Fantasy left Mobile early Friday morning after hours of delays due to fog. But some people scheduled to board say they were not allowed on the ship because of a new provision regarding coronavirus.

The customers, many who came from other states, say they were not allowed to board because of underlying health issues, including diabetes."

Just for having Diabetes? Type 1 or 2?

I’m 70 and scheduled to cruise April 4th on the Breeze. My first Carnival and so far I’m not impressed. Have received not one email concerning this cruise situation. If I weren’t a veteran cruiser and knew about CC, I’d be up a creek without a paddle.

Cruise was planned with two adult daughters and 3 grandchildren, one of whom is a type 1 diabetic. I’m now hoping we can get full refund as we can not cruise again with a credit prior to 3-31-21, spring break will once again be in April.  I’m pretty computer savvy but I’m having difficulty finding where to cancel.  There should be more explicit directions, if they want us to handle everything online.

I don't cruise until June 3rd but I think the "70 years and older" threshold is very unfair. I am 72 and it a lot better health than people I know who are in their 50s.  I also wonder if this isn't going to be challenged by the ADA and other groups.  We are all adults and if we're willing to cruise why would they discriminate against us because of our age?

My sentiments exactly. We are 71  and still get around great

What reason were you told that you cannot board ?

My husband is a diabetic and has a pacemaker. That was our reason. It was sad, so many families and people in groups. Young and old. Some families told the ir people without conditions to go and they would be back  on monday. Such a shame.

I'm going to go out on a limb here, but all the conditions that were in that email and especially, the condition for being 70 or older are here to stay. People are saying that these are just temporary, but usually when mandates are implemented, they never get revoked.

Unbelievable! How can they do that? No advanced warning or anything??

Can you post a copy of that letter they gave you?? Surely they gave you something in writing denying you boarding!

We are officially out of control

It's all a moot point now that they're cancelling all cruises for now.  I have a feeling the requirements in some form will be around when they re-open, but I also have a feeling the cancellations may be extended

We are in uncharted waters.  Things are changing so rapidly and large organizations are not capable of reacting in such a short time frame.  The 70+ health requirement came out of the meeting between VP Pence and cruise line executives 6 days ago.  CLIA, the Cruise Line International Association, was challenged by Pence to submit a proposal within 48 hours for allowing cruises to continue, while limiting risk to passengers.  The 70+ requirement came from CLIA, not Carnival, although Carnival and other major lines such as RCCL, and NCL are members of CLIA.  These CLIA requirements were rolled out simultaneously by CLIA members including RCCL and NCL yesterday.  Before I click on the submit button, I would not be surprised if Carnival has already decided to follow RCCL and NCL to cancel all cruises from US ports for the next 30 days.

What are we checking? No one is going anywhere.

I’m talking about the lady that started this thread. She showed at the port. I thought she showed up this a.m.

It is about time to cancel all cruises. Too difficult to determine who can or cannot board, better that nobody does. No better place for virus infection than a cruise ship.

Better places-..schools, nursing homes, pharmacies, hospitals, amusement parks, public transportation, my SIL's house, churches, airplanes, malls, public bathrooms, handrails everywhere, casinos, Chuck E Cheese ball pits, day care...

The reality of it all is the world is in panic. Things are changing by the hour. It's hard to keep up with it. Everyone wants a scenario where they are personally not inconvenienced, and the businesses should figure it all out. Not easy to do in these times.

With how much is going on, I feel it is unwise to not try your best to stay up to date, especially with something like a cruise, which has been constantly in the news. With that said, I also don't believe it is asking too much for Carnival to email it out.

As far as the over 70  letter this is crazy. I realize this is not just Carnival. We have a cruise on another line in May, And one booked on Carnival in Oct.  That's if they are still sailing. I am not 70 but husband is. He is in good health but I can bet our primary will not sign if for many reasons. So that means the end of our 40 plus cruises?. This is down right unfair. What next will hotels, trains, planes stop allowing 70 plus to enter. There are people younger then 70 that have worst health issues I would think is might open lots of legal issues. That said I realize this virus is no laughing matter. I have worked in the health field for many years. All I can say is wash your hands, cover your mouth when you sneeze or cough( not with your hands) and stay home when your sick.

It's not about how well you get around. Older people have weaker immune systems than younger people, so are more vulnerable to serious complications from this virus. Regardless of how well said older person gets around.

Now my doctor reuses to issue a letter   Something's gotta give here

Unfortunately, what's got to give is your plans to go on a cruise at this time. However, unlike some others here, I'm skeptical the cruise lines could keep this 70 and older ban indefinitely.  Older cruisers are the biggest part of their business. However, if coronavirus continues to be an issue for 12 to 36 months (which I read one place, but who knows?) it might be a while before your next cruise.
