airhose Posted March 13, 2020 #1 Share Posted March 13, 2020 No cruise ship (with over 500 people, including crew) will be allowed to Canadian ports until July 1. Wow. 1
OuiOnboard Posted March 13, 2020 #2 Share Posted March 13, 2020 I had been looking to come out of cruise hibernation this spring. Glad I didn't book the cruises into and out of Vancouver I was considering for later this month and next month.
Forecheck Posted March 13, 2020 #3 Share Posted March 13, 2020 To be re evaluated July 1st . Also CDNS have been instructed not to travel and will be required to Self Isolate for 14 days if they travel upon return .
Cardiolite Posted March 13, 2020 #4 Share Posted March 13, 2020 Here is the article on cbc https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/trudeau-covid-19-1.5496367 Its buried a bit in there but this is a quote of the section... During that news conference, ministers announced a series of new measures to limit the spread of COVID-19: International flights will only be permitted to land at a smaller number of airports. Those locations have not yet been announced. A ban on boats and cruise ships carrying more than 500 people from docking at Canadian ports until July. A recommendation that all travellers arriving in Canada from international points self-isolate for 14 days.
WonderMan3 Posted March 13, 2020 #5 Share Posted March 13, 2020 There go all the Alaska cruises. Don't they have to either depart from Canada or stop in Canada per US law?

I'll cancel all my flights and thankfully I booked the entire trip with points and miles. Will find something else to do then. 😄

Anyone thinking of booking a 2021 Alaskan trip might want to consider booking now as I can see demand for them increasing over the coming weeks and pushing the prices up as a result. thon Posted March 13, 2020 #9 Share Posted March 13, 2020 Just to point out - the current ban is only until July. I don’t know when the Alaska cruises typically go. And of course the ban could be extended.
JTSpitfire Posted March 13, 2020 #10 Share Posted March 13, 2020 So for Alaska cruises to go ahead the US feds will have to suspend the Jones Act to allow departure from a US port.

Would not help much as Seattle currently "asking" cruise ships to bypass and they have only so many berths for ships. Do you think since government says do not get on a cruise that Congree would suspend the Jones Act. No chance in h###. ipeeinthepool Posted March 13, 2020 #18 Share Posted March 13, 2020 Canada just announced they were banning cruise ships until July 1. Does this cancel the Alaskan cruises or will the US suspend the rues for a foreign port? https://vancouverisland.ctvnews.ca/victoria-harbour-authority-to-address-federal-cruise-ship-ban-1.4851940
MMastell Posted March 13, 2020 #19 Share Posted March 13, 2020 I guess no sailings out of Vancouver. That cancels my cruise. Good; If it's canceled then I should get a refund instead of FCC. (Maybe) Take care, Mike
B113 Posted March 13, 2020 #20 Share Posted March 13, 2020 Will they just keep adding it on. Guess being over 70 with a chronic wasn't enough. What foreign port will the Alaska ships go to. Refund the cruise fares. Daryl
