Refund Status for canceled cruises: Retitled after merges

Here's a new "wrinkle".

I paid in USD for my holiday, and was charged in AUD on my credit card.

As the Aussie dollar has been improving of late, now even if I get my money back, I will actually LOSE money because of the conversion.

If Princess had paid me within the 60 days they "promised" I wouldn't have lost any money.

So even if I "win" by finally getting my money back, I still lose.  Not to mention that I could have earned a few bucks on that cash, considering Princess has had it since JANUARY.

Any FCC issued in lieu of a refund can be refunded - either if it is not used by the expiration or at any time you request it. Any bonus FCC have no cash value and will be lost if not used.

That makes sense. I thought the same, too, as it's a bonus FCC on top of what I have requested for as a refund to my credit card under Option 2. But this CS phone rep insists that I could get it back as a cheque if my dad doesn't use his FCC. Either she has no clue what she is talking about, or Princess has decided to be generous with us. I have a feeling it's the former.

And sadly, my past experience with Princess tells me that unless you get it in writing, any promises are meaningless. Even when Guest Services promises you something on board. ☹

Finally received our bonus FCC under Option #1 for 3/13 cruise cancelled by us on 3/9.  A "cancellation fee box" had to be unticked which allowed for the processing of the bonus FCC.

By whom?

April 11 Sky sailing.  Booked with FCD and final payment made with CapitalOne.  Three sets of excursions booked paying with Paypal.

Selected option 2 on March 14.

Filed a dispute with CapitalOne and Paypal two months later on May 14. Imediately got a provisional credit on CapitalOne.

On 5/28 Paypal told me they received a response from Princess.

On  6/2 Princess posted the 25% FCC to my account.

On 6/3 Paypal ruled the dispute in our favor.

Nothing from CapitalOne on dispute or credit from Princess.

Don't know about original FCD used for deposit in Feb 2019.

BTW, plans were to follow this with a two week river cruise followed by a Cunard cruise back to the states.  River cruise was cancelled weeks after Princess.  CC refund received May 8.  Check for deposit received 6/2 since was over a year and they couldn't refund CC charge that old.

Cunard was cancelled and refund option selected on 5/23.  Nothing there yet.

Our April 12 family cruise was cancelled and we selected Option 1 on March 12.  We received our FCC in mid-April and used it for a replacement December cruise on Enchanted.  All of our CC refunds hit their accounts today, having been processed on May 29.  It would have been nice if this had all been done quicker but we understand the enormity of this effort and are not overly upset.  Hopefully Princess management and especially their IT department will come away with some lessons learned.

We worked with a Princess Cruise Specialist to track the FCC and refunds and a couple of front line Princess Reps to book and configure the new cruise with the most efficient use of the FCC.  We went from 6 people in 2 mini-suites to 7 in 3 mini-suites - not as complicated as some but not the simplest either.

I truly don't care if it sounds like cheerleading, but everyone we spoke with was friendly, efficient and gave us the best information they had in a very fluid situation.  We may never cruise with Princess again after December but it has nothing to do with their handling of this problem.  Celebrity is our preferred line and this cruise was booked more for our kids and grandkids than us.

Good luck to all.  Patience is a virtue.

A Princess refund hit both my Chase and Citicard last night after I went to bed (or this morning). I had been looking 2x daily and it was not posted when I went to bed last night.

The amounts refunded to both cards doesn't make sense to me but the combined refund does seem correct. I had used one credit card (Chase) for cruise and 4 nights hotel. It was booked at final payment so could not include air.

The other credit card (Citicard) included air. There were 2 price reductions with air which my TA did get for me before I cancelled. One was credited to Citicard and the other to Chase (incorrectly).

Excursions had been refunded right away as I cancelled them before I cancelled the cruise.

I think the sum of the refund is correct. It doesn't match the disputed amount I had on both cards. Will look at it tonight after work. FCC hit my account on June 1st for 25%.

It is finally over! I am on day 89.

Edited to say I think my refund is off by about $200. Will look into this more later when I get home.

We charged our trip on 3 cards because of special deals and the cost of our planned 42 day trip.  Cruises were to be April 11 and May 9.  Filed cc disputes on all 3 on 5/13 and received provisional credits right away.  Two of the cards asked for additional information which we supplied right away.

As of this morning, have received credits on two of the accounts - Capital One and Bank of America- credit titled "Princess Cruises" so I believe Princess finally paid up.  Still waiting for credit on the third card (Citi Double Cash), which was the most complicated due to air changes, etc.  It was also the largest amount.

Good progress, finally, but still waiting to be made whole.

I had heard they been processing more refunds and sent them back to the credit cards on Friday of last week. So they are finally hitting the credit cards.

I recall reading some time ago speculation that refunds would start to flow after the May 31 quarter end for Carnival.  Sure seems to be the case for both refunds and FCC's.

Full excursion, prepaid items, etc. refund for a Princess-canceled May 10th cruise finally received today. I chose Option 1 the day it was first offered back on March 12th (I think that’s the correct day - it’s been a long time).

Edit:  This was a full refund for prepaid excursions, etc.

I hadn't checked but we were 75 days from option selection to refund credited to our CC companies.  Then a week before they hit our accounts.  So 82 days in total.  Early on we were told 90 days to completion so we weren't panicking yet.

I had been told 10 days (cancelled before March 12th), then 30 days, then 60 days and then "we have no idea".

I seriously wonder if they had not received the investment from the Saudis, if we would be getting anything. I hope 5 years from now we find out the truth of what really went down Corporate wise on this crisis.

I chose option #2. Sailing was May 2.

FCC posted to my account on 4/23, and refund posted to my credit card this morning. It’s dated 5/29. So happy to have the much needed money.
