Refund Status for canceled cruises: Retitled after merges

I said almost. I have yet to receive mine also. I think we are in a unique group being treated differently. Most who were part of Pause 1 who Princess cancelled seemed to get theirs.

Nope. We were phase 1. We did not. Honestly, I only personally  know of one person who has gotten theirs.

Just my opinion, since I have spent way too much time on this topic: fb, cruise critic posters are a very small representation of the thousands or hundred thousand refunds Princess has to process starting with the Diamond Princess. None of us know the numbers.

Hallelujah....there is just a few dozen posters here who have made 1865 posts but 'we' only represent a fraction of those who are waiting for FCC and refunds; thus I mentioned a few other info sources via FB pages. Again, that is just another pool to draw from.

It is also likely that those who got their FCCs and refunds wouldn't think to come HERE and seek out any threads about refund delays. Nope, they likely are busy looking online to try and plan their next trip!

Hopefully we will all be able to do that soon.

BS.  First off, I'm a CPA who has worked with dozens of varying accounting systems.  Refunds should have ALL been issued by now if they even remotely wanted to.  I know that 100% as fact, not opinion.  This much should be abundantly clear to you, if you say it is difficult to issue all those refunds, and hardly any of it has actually been issued in two months save for some early pre-pause stragglers, then according to your thinking, it will will take DECADES to process all of the refunds.

My eyes are even opened WIDER. And I don't like what I see: Ugliness, selfishness, lying, retroactively changing published corporate releases, disrespecting their customers and utter desperation; and ALL of it is coming from Princess.

The refund issue is complicated by Princess giving passengers a choice of cash refunds or receiving the refunds as FCCs + bonus FCCs. Each of the three Pause announcements had a deadline for making the choice. For the second Pause the deadline is sometime in May. For the third Pause recently announced, the deadline is June 15.

I believe Princess stated that the refund/FCC processing for each Pause announcement will not start until the choice deadlines when by choice or default the preferences for all affected by that Pause are known.

So, for those whose cruises part of the second or third Pause, do not expect any refunds/FCCs to show up before the choice deadline.

.....must wait for their credit card companies to process the refund.

Credit card company processing time is essentially immediate once Princess has submitted the request.

Once the credit card company has the information, you can go online and see that it happened.

Yeah, they care, answer your calls with a recording to essentially tell you that you would be hung up on (that actually happened) with a recording message that is 60 days OLD.

Did you hang up then yourself or did you continue with the call.

I have called several times and each time after all multiple the doom and gloom messages, I was connected with a representative within 10 seconds.

Princess does not even have ONE MILLION passengers for whole year...

Princess has over 46000 lower berths and the ships in general sailed at 100% capacity (or higher when 3rd and 4th berths are included).

Assuming an average cruise length of 10 days, that would be 1.68 million passengers each year.

1865 posts? Did you really take the time to count them?

Agree with EVERYTHING in your post above.

Nope not me and I was part of that group you describe. If you go to other FB pages .. one called Princess Cruises and one called  Princess Elite , you can count on one hand who in this phase 1 Princess cancelled group has received any FCC. Not being contrary, just offering More sources to get a larger group to poll for more survey results.

Sorry was on iPad last night and was limited what I was typing.

Most people I know who were cancelled as part of Pause 1 did get their FCC. Those of us who cancelled on our own before Pause 1 but were included in Pause 1 did not.

I cancelled March 6th and have not gotten anything. My friends whose cruise was cancelled by Princess on March 12th - have been dealt with with a FCC (not refund). If I remember correctly - you are similar to me in that you cancelled before the first Pause but are included in the Pause 1.

Sorry - went off the computer early last night.

I have spoken to my agent recently about refunds and FCC with her clients. She does a ton of Princess sales. She indicated she has a group of us who cancelled before March 12 who are having issues with FCC (and refunds) but overall, her clients are having issues with real refunds.

IDK dog, there is a counter in the upper right corner of each post panel. lol....BTW, no real indication of 'any' meaningful refunds  coming from Princess. 62 days and counting for us   😞

True for us.  We cancelled the second leg of our B2B just before March 12th because we were still in the 100% refund timeframe.  No FCC for that yet.  Princess cancelled leg 1 and we have gotten the FCC for that one.

As I have said before, I don't care at all about the FCC.  Give me my refund!

Once you file a dispute with the credit card company, the dispute resolution clock starts and keeps running.  The merchant can reset their clock all they want.

Any credit card payment refund to original form of payment IS AUTOMATIC as soon as the vendor agrees on the refund.

Have you not returned a merchandise bought from store?  Online?  Have you?

How long it takes for you to receive the credit on your credit card once the store took back the return and scanned your receipt?  I bet no more than 3 to 4 days.

2 days ago I called Geico about if there is a reduction for lowering our yearly driving mileage which is already at the low For Pleasure only rate.  Rep said yes there was,  she lowered our 5,000 a year mileage to 3,000 a year.  Refund hit my AMEX in 36 hours.

The way to NOT let this happen automatically processed by the system if the merchant ACTUALLY agree to issue the refund, would require Manual Intervention as mentioned by PescadoAmarillo in post 102.

I am truly amazed by some of you be so zealous to find excuses to defend Princess, with the unethical, dishonest company took your own money and willfully delaying the refund on services not rendered.

Why some people think number matters more than the ACTUAL processing / issuing refunds?

The excuses of those folks keep finding to defend Princess are being repeated gazillion times, with the most favorites being the number game and the work at home game.

Funny the person who questioned me demanding to know how many refunds DL  have processed,  as if the number process is more important than the fact that DL or any airline provides refund when passenger requests it instead of accepting the voucher...  The same argument was posted weeks ago when claiming how many passengers were affected on the cruises canceled - without any idea how many flights a SINGLE AIRLINE IN US Operates PER DAY...  DL has over 5,000 daily flights, fwiw.  Also the basic fact that a cruise lasts for days while a flight lasts for hours - the number of airline passengers are much much much more than cruise line passengers...

So what is the "gotcha" question again?  Oh, I dont know the number of refunds DL has processed since March...  And numbers matters, all in capital letters...

Yeah, right, so Princess' number must be so huge that is the reason why it cannot process it timely -

Thankfully 2 other posters ahead of me quickly tell the person that show that the number of refunds DL has processed - Over One Million since March, and over $500 million Dollars...   That includes those passengers who are not happy of the default vouchers issued and wanted refunds instead.

And what Princess has processed so far?  can anyone provide a number?  double digits?  triple digits?  Princess would not even issue FCC automatically like the airlines do...

How many passengers Princess carries in a full year?  I do not know but I would bet any $ that it is LESS than one million.

Is it such a hard concept to grasp?  That you are owed money, being fed lies after lies on when you would get back YOUR OWN MONEY,  and you try to find all sorts of "reasons" why you should be owed that money,  without any time line on when you would get back your own money?

This. I'm amazed how anyone would continue to defend Princess for these excruciating delays, when there are examples all around us of other travel providers getting it right. Your Delta example could be me - was supposed to fly to Asia end May with family. Flight got cancelled April 3rd, I called the same day and they immediately processed the refunds which showed up in 7 calendar days. Four tickets totaling $11,000 and refunded with no fuss. Our hotel bookings were refunded by Expedia in 72 hours. Cruise lines don't operate in some alternate universe where everything takes longer. They are quick enough to charge us for taking bookings, same as airlines and hotels, but refunds? Not so quick.

For myself, just decided to not wait any longer and filed a  credit card dispute Monday morning. This should not have been necessary. But I'm not willing to keep trusting this company to do the right thing when there's been precious little evidence so far that they are doing so.

I spent about 15 minutes on the phone with a Princess rep yesterday AM.

Two things from our little chat:

They are processing CC refunds based on the scheduled date of sailing. They are issuing refunds for May sailings currently and the refunds are being “hand done” on a case by case basis so everything is going really slowly.

It was a HUGE mistake on their part to ever have mentioned 60 day refunds and Princess’s public image is going to suffer some serious long term damage over this whole SNAFU.

A few random, out of order refunds may have been issued but month by month, sailing date by sailing date is the norm.

I sure hope you are right, but my TA spoke to Princess the other day and got the same old run-around from them.  Of course she discouraged me from filing a cc dispute, but I will do so today.

The refund specialists are almost all working from home and yours is one of those random, out of order refunds that has not been issued.

Our sailing to Alaska was scheduled for September so it’s going to be a loong wait for us!

Hello fellow Houstonian-ish !  Did Princess tell you that?  We were March 22 and still haven't gotten the refund or the FCC.  I've seen as early as a January that hasn't gotten a refund.

Full disclosure - we filed a dispute over a week ago but we hadn't gotten one then.

I was told 60 business days for refund to credit card. 60 business days will be up on July 3. Our cruise was for September for Alaska, we cancelled this cruise in early April. If there is no refund by that date, I will dispute with Chase.

This is similar to another situation...we had a family trip booked for early April that we obviously had to cancel. One of the tour operators we had paid said it would be ONE YEAR before they could refund. Um, no. I got it in writing that they were saying one year, despite their conformation letter saying full refund withing 14 days if cancelled 3 or more days ahead. We met this requirement. Bank refunded to our credit card.

If they are processing May sailings, then what happened to all the people sailing in March and April that are reporting no refunds? Surely all of them can't be random out of order cases.

I'm not challenging what you are saying, just what Princess is telling you.

At this point, I'm happy to let Capital One handle the dispute. Maybe they'll be more responsive to the big credit card companies than an individual customer.

I had a March 29th cruise, that was cancelled by Princess on March 12.  I filled out their paperwork selecting option 2 and received confirmation from Princesson March 13th.  I did receive the FCC portion, but no refund of my cruise fare or the refundable OBC that I purchased. Many others report similar situations, so I don't think that they are now working on the May refunds.  Soon I will ask my CC company to reverse all charges.

Here's my update - my TA's direct quote was "I think you'll get your refund but I don't know when and no one at Princess knows either."

61 days from the day Princess cancelled my cruise.  Two emails, nothing else.
