HAL already has ships assigned to Europe, when and if the cruise season resumes. It wouldn't be easy to just create routes and sell them, and expect people to travel to the new routes quickly, if things clear up. It would be far easier to resume, in progress, the already existing schedule, which has already been heavily sold and planned. Particularly as Koningsdam is scheduled to stay in the Pacific for a couple of years, at least.

Ryndam and N. Statendam have been modified to avoid the Canal issue.

Nieuw Statendam has the same problem as the Koningsdam.

The Koningsdam, which ended up going thru the Panama Canal as was my original post suggestion, has now arrived back in the USA at San Pedro, Calif.  After getting all the way down to Brazil, the company apparently got the Canal to allow it a special passage.  It took about 37 days since leaving Ft Lauderdale , but that included several days of port lay overs and a mixture of 10 knot cruising and after leaving Brazil, some high speed cruising only to sit off the Canal entrance a few days.  The original cruise was to be 44 days to San Diego with all the port calls.

Will the K'dam now be on hold until it can do the shortened Alaska season?  Time will tell.
