slidergirl, yes we have Les Schwab here. Good to know that they took good care of you and perhaps many others are doing the same so everyone feels safe.

cruise kitty sounds like you’ve had a double whammy. Thinking you and cruisemom could really use an adult beverage to blunt the blues!

So today I really made the effort-dressed up a bit and did my make up so we could have a Zoom brunch with family to celebrate our adult son’s birthday. We had a really nice visit and while I am thankful for technology that makes this possible, I’m also sad that this is the way it has to be.....for now. Our son and his wife live about 2000 mi away but before the virus we saw them frequently. Now we don’t have any idea when we will be together again. We see our daughter for outdoor visits only. Sorry to be a Debbie downer but this just bums me out-pass the Mimosa please-I do have OJ to contribute!

Sharon, sounds like a nice time.........although I can certainly understand you miss them in person.  You know

when I was in the hospital, no visitors were allowed............it got pretty funky after a couple of days.  I have no family

here anyway but I have a couple of friends I didn't even call---they would not not have been allowed to visit.  One

of my closest friends lives in Miami and we did speak on the phone almost daily. But as for humans? The nurses,

drs and lab techs were it.

I am making baked pork chops and will have some broccoli with them for dinner tonight. Just put Mrs Dash all over

them with some olive oil.  They are baking right now.

A big upside for me is that it finally got warm enough to put aside the jeans/black stretch pants and fleeces that I've worn every day, and replace them with something summery!  To be completely different, I got out some brightly patterned palazzo pants and a bright jersey; no socks with my shoes!  It felt so good; husband said I look "cruise-y".  And they are at least as comfortable as the winter clothes.  (Flannel sheets still on the bed, though.)

We really like Aldi's for our groceries.  Very efficient service, wide aisles, excellent fruits and vegetables, red pepper hummos (not spicy!), good yogurts and such. Good skincare products, too.  They have been cleaning carts with each use.

Hi, so PA has still been so cold you are wearing fleece? Yikes!   Come visit........I am in shorts every day (around the house) with either a tank top or short sleeves.

No Aldi stores here in UT.  But, I've been inside one in Germany and one in Florida.  Like I said, I have this weird vacation thing where I love to go into different markets and see what they offer!  I hope to shop the Aisle of Shame someday.

Pork chops & broccoli - yum!  Do you like "everything" bagels?  If you do, head out to Aldi or Trader Joe's and buy a bottle of the "everything but the bagel" seasoning.  Really good.  I've put it on chicken I'm broiling, bacon (EXCELLENT) when I bake it, mix it in with  hummus.   TJs also has what think is a really good "everyday seasoning" in a grinder, and a very tasty lemon pepper in a grander (the lemon really comes out when I do salmon).   And, others that are fun to try.  Not very expensive, so it's not like I've wasted money when I don't like one.  Seasonings are a big part of making your Type 2 meals good!

And, finally:   DANG IT LADIES.  All talk about mimosas stuck in my brain when I went to the market this afternoon. I ended up buying a carton of OJ...  Now, I have to have a daily mimosa, a screwdriver,  whatever...

we do have Aldi's here as well,  but I love my little Trader Joe's,   Spent today working on our little garden...  & for dinner tonight we had the first of the squash that I planted last month..delish!

slidergirl, Calabassas is a longgg drive for us... luckily the college is a 5 minute walk & has a ton of serious staircases...  & I also do the hidden staircases a couple blocks away from us,  the streets are so steep that there are 3 sets of staircases built into them,  here's one of them:

I am headed out for my little run now, good night everyone!  Enjoy those mimosas :)

slidergirl, sooo sorry that our bad influence has led you down the wrong path with lots of temptations along the way. Let us know if you need help with those adult beverages-we have a non stop to SLC from here. Oh wait that won’t work will it? Well, enjoy!

Love TJ’s lemon pepper but haven’t seen it in stock for awhile. Will put it on my list for the next visit.

We have an Aldi’s Here but nor very close by. Supposed to be building one very close to me but haven’t seen an update on that project since before this virus took over.

Hey, I too like to visit local grocery stores when we travel. Ended up with some great cheese from a Carafour in Italy. The deli person didn’t speak Italian and so I just pointed and hit the jackpot! Unfortunately I have no idea what I bought-Google Translate let me down!

Hi Lois,

i know many many hospitals are limiting or not even allowing visitors. That sad and I’m sure is difficult for everyone involved. I have often said that if I am in the hospital, please have them post a “no visitors” sign because I can’t imagine how bad I’d look. (Not the least bit vain) However I have not been in the hospital in many years-very grateful for that, so not sure just how I’d actually feel.

Thank heavens for our cell phones and most hospitals now have WiFi.

Enjoy!  I’ve found the Mrs Dash seasonings to be very flavorful (try it on veggies)

Good morning Sharon, vanity and pride go out the window........take it from someone with first hand knowledge.

After a day or 2? When you need help for "normal stuff"........you just ring the bell and ask for a nurse.........e.g.,

going to the bathroom........all the pride you had goes out the window. When you are in the hospital, how you look?  It doesn't matter.

I know that Calabassas would be a drive for you.  But, I thought a nice drive out of the city and a workout in the hills could be a nice change of pace.  I know I get bored doing the same trail behind my house and I have to drive to others once in awhile.

Right now, my trail is dry - some of the others are still muddy or actually have snow on them.  At least you don't have that issue in Los Angeles!

Today's wardrobe:  I'm probably just going up on the trail today (you got me thinking), so it'll be my trusty trail runners, either my purple Lululemon running skort or a pair or Athleta cropped leggings and a SPF shirt.  Accessories will be yet another baseball hat and my lumbar bag (carries my iPhone and water), and my purple Road ID bracelet.  Ladies - I HIGHLY recommend all of you get one of these!!!!  If you travel anywhere, this ID will be able to speak for you in an emergency if you cannot.  I have the interactive one so I can update it anytime with medical information, meds, vaccinations, ICE information.  As a woman who travels solo, it is my constant companion.  (no, I don't own stock in Road ID)

Have a great day everyone!   Kat (my "real life" nickname)

I, too, have a Road ID very important for everyone. Mine is ancient & not interactive...I need to upgrade mine!  I’ve worn one (probably one of the first made) since being on Pikes Peak Marathon committee (For 25 years) & they were a sponsor. I’ve had medical issues & had responding medical say ‘so much easier with all this info’. I don’t trail run as much as I used to, but I’m still out occasionally hiking on some remote trails. Melody

I wear mine anytime I travel, not just when I'm hiking/running.  I upgraded to the interactive about 10 years ago.  I do have a few different color bands so I can change up if I want.  I don't care if it looks a little weird to have it on if I'm "dressed up" - I'm used to it.

it actually rained buckets here today... out of nowhere it seemed...  we have really good hiking trails in our hills here that just reopened, but I'm not taking a chance with crowds,  I feel fortunate that we have places so close where I don't hav to worry about people getting too close..   I've never heard of the road ID...  I do have my medical emergency info in my phone medical ID & my donor info & agreement.  I like the idea of something like your bracelet that's so easy to identify :)

Relating to medical ID info, when our younger DD was a teenager she had a severe reaction to an anti-nausea med....I bought her a Tiffany here charm bracelet & had it engraved as a medical alert bracelet so she felt comfortable wearing it to school...  luckily that med is no longer on the market.

I'm sending good thoughts your way for good news tomorrow Lois :)   & Anemia is not fun,  I battled with it for many, many years, once you get it under control & your numbers are up where they should be, it's amazing how much better you can feel (at least for me, it was a huge change)

& the water weight, that's crazy...  14 lbs, yo must have been so swollen, so great that it went down!

Do you taken iron pills?

yes I do,  back when I had to take 3 a day, that was not fun, tummy problems ya know...  I only have to take one a day now.   Let me tell you that Citrucel pills are your friend.  :)   Ask your Dr. tomorrow,  but I take two tablets twice a day...  they really, really help & don't make you gassy :classic_wink:   I used to have terrible restless legs & constant cravings for ice,  I would go though 5 or 6 cups of ice a day,  all gone now. :)
