I’d check again, there have been Really recent changes. It’s kind of like talking to one customer service person, not liking the answer calling back & getting a different answer. All you’d be out would be a phone call

I don't know if anything has changed in 6 months, but I'll research it.  I looked on line, talked to someone, did an email request, and my ex looked into it also.

I'm more worried about what would happen to ANY amount if the payroll tax is eliminated if something goes the wrong way in 2 weeks.

this is the relevent section from the SS website.  It applies to spouse and ex-spouse:

  • At their full retirement age, the spouse’s benefit cannot exceed one-half of your full retirement amount.

If your spouse’s birthday is January 2, 1954 or later, the option to take only one benefit at full retirement age no longer exists. If your spouse files for one benefit, they will be effectively filing for all retirement or spousal benefits.

I'm at full retirement age, so the amount I would get on my SS has to under half of what he would get.  I'm not even close - I'm within like probably 80% or so.

And, then my birthday is after 1/2/54.  So I can't do that nice mix anymore - either mine or half of his, which would be a lot less.

Lois - wow.  So close!!!

Did you see the video of her on one of the stages, umbrella up, dancing in the rain?  It was just so uninhibited.  And, she was wearing her Chucks (her tennis shoes)!!!

I may have to go out and buy a George Foreman Grill now!!!  My problem would be that I'd want to make panini all the time and it's a no-no with my type 2.  Chicken, yes.  What else?  Pork chops?  Grilled veggies?

Lots of wind again today - it rattles my windows.  Not good for the fire.  Not good for me tryng to walk that loop again.  But, I'll get out there.  I'll have to judge which way the wind is blowing and start out against the wind to make it easier at the end.  Right now, the wind is blowing the smoke in the opposite direction.  But I can still see that brownish stuff just at the top of the hill, so a shift can bring it back this way.

Nothing going on again today, except waiting for the trash truck to pick up my trash.   With the wind, I have to be sure to get it fast when it's empty or I'll be chasing it all over.  I've put flourescent pink duct tape on the handles so I can tell my can from the others.  Also helps if someone "accidentally" takes my can (it's $75 to get a new one!!!).

So, my OOTD is back to those new Lululemon sweats and my Ron Jon Surf Tshirt.  If i go out, I'll switch to my Woolx long sleeve shirt that helps keep me from the wind.

a Pix of me with my ballot.  I couldn't wait for my hair to dry itself, so I blow dried it straight...  Me and my Blenders sunglasses and a Johnny Was mask.

Hi there Kat, I'm delivering mine today too, & I have that exact same mask :)

Work ended up being too busy, so I'm delivering today....  we're lucky to me smoke free here, but it's hazy, cool, & overcast...   hopefully the wind will shift for you & clear out some of the smoke :)

Hi Kat, yes, you can grill all of those things!👍

Hi Lois, hope your appointment with GI specialist went well :)

I still don't have the GF grill, but I bought a mini waffle iron at target, $8.99 & it makes adorable mini waffles that are about 4 or 5 inches across

Hello Everyone, all seems to be going ok for everyone. Lots of “I Voted” messages! I’m waiting for DH to finishing up with all our propositions. Those take time to make sure you know exactly what your vote means.

Today I participated in an online “get out the vote” session. Very interesting how that all worked. I used Thru Text platform to text 300 people and then to reply to those who responded. All organized by the sponsoring political party. My actual number was not used with this platform and only my first name appeared in the text. . I received about 50 replies that were then put into a survey before I responded. I was glad to see that so many have already voted. I’ve never done anything like this but my DIL is very active so she encouraged my sister and me to sign up along  with my DS. So among the 4 of us we contacted 1200 voters in a 2 hour time span.I hope this isn’t considered political-I have not mentioned a party or candidate by name. Just wanted to share my experience as it was all new to me.

Tomorrow I’m zooming with my 94 year old aunt, her daughters and my sister. I’m still amazed how much we can do virtually that I had no idea was possible.
Take care all,

Sharon

Lois, so glad to hear that your GI appointment went well. I wanted to ask about your GF grill. Can the actual grill plates be taken off for washing? It looks like they aren’t the usual non stick but something else.  It sounds like you are really enjoying it.

Debbie, my DIL has a minni waffle iron in the shape of Mickey Mouse’s face/head. So cute and fun to use.

Looks like we Californians will be getting an extra safety check on any vaccine that will be used in CA. Don’t know if they are including trial vaccines.

Kat, hope the fires and smoke don’t head your way. We still have fires burning and some smoke but it hasn’t been too bad over the last several days. Also hope your tourist season doesn’t bring lots of Covid cases with it.

Everyone, stay safe!

Kat, I have several friends that have just done the ex spouse filing (this summer) must be a different situation. Too bad it won’t work for you. There’s so many thoughts on taking early & collecting while it’s available or waiting till 70 & hopefully get more.

our fires have really blown up. One is now 5, smoke is horrible. Hoping for moisture this weekend

Hi Sharon, unless I am missing something, these are not removable plates.....they are non stick and very easy

to clean😃.....I just use a sponge and/or papertowel and warm water...........easy peasy!

It has to do when they were born, too.  If you were born before that date I have there, they can do something different.  But, I will check one more time.  Things also changed on working while collecting - you used to have a ceiling but that went away.  So, I'd have no issue applying and trying to work again this Winter.

Fire is going down the canyon, so away from us.  Some really disgusting people stole some firefighting tools from the truckbeds of the firefighters who were staying at some hotels in the area.  How depraved do you have to be???

Calling people to vote isn't politcal - it's getting people to get out and vote, regardless of who they vote for.

For some reason, I could not sleep last night.  I think I only really slept between 5-6am.  At least I have BBC to listen to on my local public radio station.  I always find it interesting to listen to the British version of world news.  But, I do have to say the two interesting segments were about Ireland going back into lockdown and then the BBC reporter ripping apart a US Congressman who is a surrogate for the incumbent in a interview.  And, I got all the world's soccer scores and news - a good 20 minutes worth, compared with one sentence about the Dodgers winning game 1.  Good thing there wasn't any cricket to report on last night!!  When I used to get off work at 11pm, I always listened to the BBC on the way home.  Good way to keep up on Africa and South America, since the US news outlets hardly do any reporting on those locations.

Well, the texting was sponsored and set up by a political party and the text not only included asking  if they had voted but also if they were supporting specific candidates. I just figured I’d better not be too specific.

I also have some nights when I am awake most of the night. I might fall asleep shortly after going to bed but then I wake up around 2am and it might be 4 or so before I fall asleep-really messes up my day. I too listen to talk radio. Will have to see about our local public radio but I think it’s mostly music overnight. I do listen to a Bay Area station.

Lois, thanks for explaining about the GF grill plates. Seems easy enough.

They were all between 68-72 in age so likely different rules did apply to them. Glad your fires are going away from you. Our CO wildfires are awful. Badly need moisture of any kind. Weather is supposed to take a dive tomorrow from 80s to 20s, just hope wine dies down.

Waiting for fall to show up here.  We had a day or two that was a teaser but this week it has been warmish.  Better than snow but I wouldn't mind a little cooler.  The hurricane did take off a lot of leaves from the trees already so it may not be as bad as last year for having to rake leaves.  We have two leaf sweepers for our garden tractors and last year we spent a lot of time going back and forth.

I love those texts although I don't think they appreciate my reply.

I have Sirius radio in my car and usually listen to either Dr. Radio or Fox Business News.

Well, some good news.  I sent an email Tuesday night to my manager and the owner of the property management co. that I worked for.  I asked them when they were re-opening and that I would love to go back to work for them.  I got an email back my manager that she had been getting ready to send me a letter to see if I wanted to come back.  So, things are lookng up on that front.  I told her I could start anytime after 11/20 (so I can get in a camping trip).  Winter sounds like it's set up.  I'll see how my  body responds.  I had better get walking a lot to get in shape - I've got stairs and hallways to walk there!

The hamster wheel in my brain started thinking about vacations next summer.  Bad girl!  The AdventureWomen canal barge trip in Provence started calling to me.  There's one in June and one in September.  Lazy days, wine, cheese, charcuterie, oysters, photographing the Carmague horses (we have 2 photos of them in the condo hallways that I LOVE).  June seems a little too close for COVID comfort, but September is less "scary."   But, there's also an AdventureWomen yacht trip along the Croatian coast.   Delusions of being the Primary on Below Deck Med!  I should tell my brain to wait another year before taking these on.  But, a girl can dream.

Lots of wind again today, blowing the smoke away.  My chokeberry tree in the back patio has no more leaves on it.  I guess I need to get out there and rake them and cut the sucker shoots (that is a never-ending job).

I have my wine all ready for tonight's TV festivities.  A nice Cotê du Provence Rosé (speaking of Provence).  All implements capable of being thrown at th TV will be put away.

Hi Kat, that is great about the job! Congrats🙂...no wine for me......actually, I have not been doing any partaking of any booze.

Especially since I have been home from the hospital.....the Drs really frown upon it. Fortunately, I don't

care about drinking so it doesn't matter to me.

I will be watching tonight as well..........

So, we are now nearing the end of October.......I found out yesterday the meds the GI specialist prescribed me don't

mix well with my cancer meds...no bad side effects but the ulcer medicine takes away some of the effectiveness of the cancer medication.

So, we are changing the ulcer medication to an "H2 blocker"......it is supposed to do the job

without affecting the cancer medication. Lets hope so!  I called my Cancer Guy

and he said ok.

Just seems 2020 keeps bringing more stuff..........😲

Congrats, Kat! Do you think that there will be many changes to how things are done at the resort because of Covid? I wonder if masks will be required? Nice that you will have different experiences and some sense of normalcy in your days.

Oh and I checked the schedule for the local public radio station. No overnight talk, just classical music. 😞

Lois, good to hear that your meds are straightened out. Hope all goes smoothly.

So wine is chilling and dinner is planned in anticipation of tonight’s big event. I hope there is some useful information spoken tonight and that I can actually hear it!

The manager made herself an office out of our closet this summer since there is only enough space for 2 of us at the desk with distancing.  Our county is already mask-mandatory, so no problem there.  I'll keep wearing even when if it goes away.  We won't be doing our coffee/cocoa machine because of the self-service (bummer there - I lived on the triple lattes I'd make) and cookies & wine & cheese apes-ski is gone.  May have the guests handle their own luggage to avoid contact.  I'll find out.

Our local public radio has had BBC Worldwide overnight for as long as I can remember.  We have local volunteer DJs, so the music varies wildly depending on who is working,.  Sunday evening from 7-11am is "Cada Domingo" with Spanish language DJs and Latinx music and interviews.  It's a great place for our Latinx community to keep in the know.

Lois - good that you're getting the meds straightened out.  Too many meds from too many docs just gets messy.

Sharon, good on you for getting people out to vote :)

Kat, congrats on the job prospects, such good news!

Melody, I heard today on the radio that the CO got huge today, I hope you are safe!

Lois, glad that they caught the medication interaction sooner than later....hopefully the new one will work as well :)

Keksie, I used to have a trial subscription to Sirius, but I never listened to ut, so I didn't bother renewing...  I do like listening to science podcasts though :)

Sally, good on voting!!

hope I'm not leaving anyone out, today was a work day, now running out to pick up Sushi, & then we'll watch the big event :)

Kat, good news on the job, can you put off filing for social security for awhile Now?

Lois, glad they caught that medication error, too many cooks spoil the soup.

Debbie, Our fires are awful. One went from nothing to 10,000 acres to way over 100,000 acres in less than 12 hours. Wiping out a lot of forest north & west of Denver. They’re still 3 hours from us, but smoke is still very much in the air. Quite chilly (21) This morning & hopefully precipitation rain/snow with good amounts forecast over the mountains, hoping it’ll help the fire situation.

I've had XM/Sirius in my car (& now house) since 2007, love the no commercial aspect & being able to always get a channel when traveling. Wouldn’t be without it (our regular radio stinks)

My Christmas cactus is very confused...must be 2020. Melody

Hi Melody, glad the fires are still far from you, but the size of them is absolutely insane, hoping your cooler weather will help, & keeping fingers crossed that the rain/snow will come.

& happy friday :)
