I think he says HE is one of the first and that it’s not just casino crew, but across departments.

I do wish he had said when his contract was up. Maybe more information tomorrow. Not looking good to cruise at the end of May. 😔

He was on a 7 month contract that started at the end of August on Mariner.  7 months is the end of March.

This was easily found by reading the thread he started here on CC

He also says “this was a decision made by the head office” which to me says there’s nothing routine about it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

With the information given is appears that the cruise line isn't renewing his contract at this point.

Chris, who is posting on YouTube, is a member of the casino team. He states the casino crew is being sent home first.

He isn't a RCL employee. He works for the contractor who runs the casino. Same as those that work in the spa/fitness center and in all the shops.

No way unfortunately our Oasis May 10th cruise is gonna happen I'd say. Have to move it to September once we get 125% FCC. Really wanted to sail in Spring outside of hurricane season but I stuff happens.

April is done. Probably May. Containment is the only good option right now. Vaccine would take forever, or not. One heck of a precedent has been set regarding closures, therefore buckle up! Unemployment claims in Ohio and Illinois alone are currently running over 25,000 people PER DAY!

Just how are they suppose to get home?

Most countries are allowing their citizens and residents to return.  And there are some flights to do so.

I wonder if the crew being sent home are at the end of their contracts?

I met Chris on the 2/23 sailing of Oasis,  at that time he anticipated going home in a few weeks, so it appears he is going home in the first group since his contract has ended.

So maybe his surprise was just in the fact that he didn’t think anyone would be getting off ship during the 30 day sailing suspension.

Sounds like it.

Interesting that his posts could be interpreted as either "they're sending the entire crew home" or "I get to go home now as planned".  I guess it depends very much on the perspective of the reader.  Very much like how eyewitnesses to the same event see different things.

I doubt that the cruise lines are renewing any contracts at this point. If they know that they can’t carry revenue-generating passengers for at least a month, keeping people on board whose contracts have ended adds cost when they’re unable to offset the cost with revenue. Cost avoidance, while it may sound callous, is the name of the game until revenue resumes.

I wonder if they'll have some sort of smaller craft going around to the ships in the anchorage there and collect the ones leaving. Then shuttle to the Bahamas or Florida. I can't see them firing up the big ships just to drop some folks off. Maybe they'll use Cococay as a staging area.

Exactly, from the information I gathered from the thread I came to the conclusion that the contract was up.

Chris sounded like he was enjoying himself and I think he feels safer on the ship than going home to the UK. That was my take anyway.

He was sure enjoying himself in Chops and the sushi place earlier this week.  You could tell in his latest vlog where he said he was being sent home that he was none too enthused about it.  I would think he is safer.  They are all being closely monitored, having their temps checked daily etc.  They are doing some cleaning but it sounds like they are giving them plenty of time to enjoy themselves.  Much deserved but I knew they weren't going to allow them to "lay up" out there long term.

It sure didn’t look too rough! I’m assuming the sushi and the filet mignon being served up had to do with the amount of food that would start spoiling if it wasn’t eaten. I was curious to follow his vlog over the next few weeks to see if that kept up!

Do the cruise lines arrange charter flights home? Aren't most long-haul international flights cancelled?

I believe they do.  I have talked to several in the dinning area who have worked with them for a long time says, they pay their air fare to the ship and return home.  Most of those going home will probably be on the same flight or at least a lot of them.  It surely beats what MSC is doing, trying to bargain with their contractors --->>>https://www.cruiselawnews.com/2020/03/articles/disease/covid-19-appealing-to-loyalty-and-preying-on-fears-msc-cruises-pressures-crew-members-to-waive-right-to-be-paid/
