30 day notice of itinerary changes?

I read somewhere (on the internet) that there's some kind of requirement for a cruise line to give 30 days notice of changes to an itinerary. Is there anything to that?

Not at all.  Ships change their itinerary during the cruises on a regular basis.

But, NCL has announced they would try to notify of changes due to coronavirus outbreak around 30 days before scheduled departure.  Or something to that effect.

Sure, they'll try to notify changes as soon as possible but it's not a requirement as the OP asked.  Frustrating in what right now is a very fluid and dynamic situation.

The 30 day itinerary change was part of the letter from Harry Sommer (the one that ended with the comment that he was still taking his family on a cruise in Europe in May).  That letter and likely the 30 day promise has disappeared from their website. At least, I just searched and can't find it. Things are changing fast but their lack of communication just makes it worse.

Yeah, no requirement to cancel. They said they would communicate changes 30 days in advance to avoid last minute changes.

Here is what Harry said in his 3-7 letter....

"At the current time, our plans are to avoid any area that is denoted as a ‘Level 4 -  do not travel’  area by the State Department at the time of voyage.   We will modify any itinerary visiting those areas approximately  30 days prior to arrival date to avoid last minute changes."

Aren't cruise ships considered Level 4 - Do Not Travel? Hmmm...Easy to say, but talk is cheap and we know $$$ is #1 at NCL. I find an arrogance in Harry's communications, anyway, to be perfectly honest.....mentioning about how Norwegian "walks the talk" whatever that means and he is sailing to Europe in May....right, Harry, of course you are.

Actually, looks like we may get to test the "talk".

Washington(CNN)

The US is preparing to advise Americans not to travel abroad due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The State Department is expected raise its travel advisory worldwide to Level 4: Do Not Travel -- the highest level.

Four sources told CNN Thursday that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had approved a Level 4 advisory.

Kind of ironic that I just got my renewed passport in the mail today.   lol

Meanwhile, today I received a reminder about the opportunity to upgrade....  To a cruise to Canada before they lift their ban in July.

I get that the emails are probably auto-scheduled ages ago, but it's not that hard to un-schedule those mailings, either.

I'm being patient to see what they offer as a substitute itinerary, or if cruising is even a possibility by then.   But this ticked me off.

Thanks! I knew I saw that somewhere.

I wonder if Harry is still planning on that cruise.

...and now we have it.

From the Dept of State, not media.

Officially and simply.

Level 4 - Do Not Travel.

The Department of State advises U.S. citizens to avoid all international travel due to the global impact of COVID-19.

Try is the operative word, could actually fail.

It's not an order, it is an advisory.  The only way the US can command you not to travel is to invalidate US passports.  That won't be happening.

Of course it won't. Never said it was an order.

Safe travels to you, mate, wherever you plan on going.

Hope he doesn't need insurance whilst he's away. Or repatriation. Or medical treatment.

Once you ignore a state advisory, you might still be able to go, but you're on your own

Seriously, man. Good luck with that.

But but I'm wondering if it has any binding impact on travel providers. Insurance issues or maritime law limitations, etc.

Just clarifying for those confused.  I have travel plans and will be traveling.  As a healthy, non-elderly person I have zero fear of covid-19.  In other words, I am continuing to live my life without fear or panic.  More people should do the same instead of buckling to the fear mongering mobs and media.

As an independent adult, I am always on my own when I travel.  I live in a free and independent country that doesn't rely on liberal, socialist policies to 'take care of me'.  I do have my mommies phone number that I can call and cry to if things get too bad.....
