It’s a beautiful sunny afternoon, now that this morning’s fog has been burnt off.  It’s still very cold but thankfully no wind, so it’s comfortable enough if properly dressed and shod.

It’s very quiet here, I’m pleased to report

After watching CNN last night I’m finding it a bit difficult to find a wise or positive thought for today.  Let’s try the catch-all

It’ll be alright in the end and if it’s not alright it’s not the end

One small positive for me today.I found out that I have won £25 on the Premium Bonds. A deposit on a Radley handbag perhaps but helps the 'feel good' factor amongst all the doom and gloom.Going for a walk shortly and hope to spot some birds including hopefully a kingfisher which we saw a few days ago.Hope others on this forum have small positives too

Nice one Kalos, better than any financial gain.

Here you are, Ann, they've got a sale on: https://www.radley.co.uk/sale/ I like the large red tote, though you've have to put a bit towards it on top of the £25.

I've just worked out I got 1.4% on my bonds last year, and not taxable, so not bad compared with savings interest rates in general, and a bit of fun every month.

That is pretty much what I got too, the actual rate has now decreased along with the banks, going to need a bit more luck this year.

That's why I was very surprised when I got £75 - that's probably my lot for 2021.🙂

What's the record on here historically? £150 for me,

Excellent, well done. My daughter's bought some recently, so I'm hoping she wins next month.

I got 2 x £25 so about 0.75%.

I have around £10 worth of premium bonds and have had them 40 or more years. Never won anything so simple calculation of percentage - 0% or taking inflation into account much less than 0%. Mind you with interest of 0.1% on savings accounts at the moment, premium bonds or more carnival shares may be better than sticking savings in the bank - accessible for cruises though.

I have had mine for many years, the most I have won is £125 in any month, however I have never had more than £25 for any one bond.

Problem at the moment is Carnival are not paying divi's and no chance of any OBC any time soon, which is what we actually bought ours for. However anybody brave, or mad enough to buy them 6 months ago would be sitting on a 40% profit.

Both my hubby and daughter have had a £500 in one month, I'm not that lucky ☹️

My great aunt used to win on a regular basis - not huge amounts but up to £100 several times a year. She was a spinster and we all assumed that she had the maximum holding as she’d had a good job all her life. After she died, we were surprised to learn that she only had £2000 in Premium Bonds. I guess she was just very lucky.

A few thousand a couple of decades ago, just in time to pay of my accumulating debts and self cure my gambling habit,  thank you Ernie 🙂

I still gamble, a euromillions ticket cos I have always wanted to live in a bungalow and small flutters on a cruise

Just had a look at the Radley sale- so much choice but there is a lilac bag I like the look of!. I was born the year Premium Bonds first started and an aunt used to buy me one every birthday and christmas. However I never won and as a student cashed them in.However with the fall in interest rates we decided to purchase some and really pleased to have won the first month .Its only a small amount but gave me a little buzz!

I think most of us bought them for OBC and dividends which make them a good investment. That said, my initial 100 would be showing a loss were it not for OBC and dividends. I was however both brave and mad to buy more a few months ago but paid significantly less than I would have to today. Dividends and OBC will presumably be reinstated some time (OBC when cruising resumes?) so, if bought at the right price, they will continue to pay their way.
