Celebrity EDGE - March 8-15 Review

Pre cruise hotel - Bahia Mar in Ft Lauderdale .  Nice location with many bars and restaurants around.  Unfortunately the weather wasn’t great .  Also we were awakened on Sunday at 6am from a Triathlon that was happening across the street on the beach.  Shame on me for booking a marina view room.

Embarkation - excellent.  From arrival to Pier to getting on the ship was 15 minutes.  Not sure if this is because we sailed with 600 people less than capacity but we’ll always appreciate a quick on boarding .

Ship - clean, beautiful and spacious (well thought out)

Cleanliness - impeccable . Constant cleaning of all areas. Hand washing stations at entrance to buffet. Purell being squirted everywhere.  Bathrooms were always very clean.

Cabin - we had a sunset veranda (cabin 11270) and couldn’t have been happier . We were able to ask and get a lounger from the cabin steward (Arnold was great).  The bed was near the balcony.  We didn’t notice any spot on the balcony as others have claimed.  The bed could have been a touch softer for me but did the trick.  Cabin space was very good, especially the bathroom and shower was a nice size.

Food - very good.  Really enjoyed Select Dining and the smaller main restaurants .  Cosmopolitan was our favorite (mostly due to the staff like Johanna, Savin and Paul).  The ocean view cafe buffet for breakfast and lunch was phenomenal and very fresh .  Impressed that there were many hand washing stations at all entrances to the buffet and staff there to make sure people washed up.  We did Eden Cafe for breakfast once and it was very nice but liked the selection in the buffet so we usually stuck to that.

Specialty restaurants - didn’t really use these but we did do breakfast at Eden cafe and it was very good.

Pool - the Solarium was very nice on the poor weather days (inside space to layout and go in the hot tub and pool) but it’s odd being inside on a cruise.  The outdoor pool was large and easy to get a deck chair and everyone was very respectful of each other.

Excursions by Celebrity - awful.  We booked 2 tours and both cancelled with no reason.  One was a tour to St Barths during St Maarten stop and no explanation as to why it was cancelled (a little communication and empathy could have gone a long way)

Weather - not good from Mon to Wed and great from Thurs to Sat

Ports of Call (San Juan instead of Tortola) was an Epic Fail.  I realize weather is not cooperating but decision was to move San Juan to the Tortola day and cancel Tortola (Tortola was why we booked this cruise FYI).  Everyone we talked to was very disappointed in Celebrity’s decision to go to San Juan instead of Tortola.  In addition the weather forecast for San Juan that day was rain and it poured.  And in Tortola it was sunny all day.

Port of call (St Maarten) - excellent. Weather was great and all we did was the water taxi to localbeach, lunch at Lazy Lizards and some Shopping.  Interestingly there were 4 ships due to dock that day but we were the only ship allowed in that met the more stringent St Maarten health requirements.

Entertainment - saw the Hype show and it was OK.  The comedian and the illusionist were fantastic. Wish they had more of these.

Debarkation - very smooth and organized.  We were group 32 in the Theater and from the time we got the call, we were outside the cruise terminal in 10 minutes (didn’t even have to show passports to customs )

All in all a great cruise and we would definitely sail on the Edge again.

PS - DW and I are healthy and missing the ship after 7 days

Great review

One question about the hot tubs.

Did you have get to the top to find out if it was full of people? 😊

Simple answer is Yes. It was difficult to see who was in there from the pool level.

However each time I went up there, there was always room.  Also note They were very large and there were two of these hot tubs, as well as another inside in the Solarium
