Iona Maiden

Sadly this has been cancelled

Iona’s maiden cruise

In addition, the restrictions have forced the temporary slow down of work by Meyer Werft in Germany, where the final outfitting on new ship Iona is being completed.

We are working with the team at the shipyard to see how this will impact upon Iona’s delivery.

We are all so sorry for the disappointment this will cause to our guests who had booked Iona’s maiden cruise on 14 May.

It will be interesting to see how they manage the maiden cruise when it takes place. Some who have booked on a later cruise may fall lucky and end up on Iona’s first cruise. Alternatively, P&O may set the first possible cruise as the rescheduled maiden cruise and give people already booked, the opportunity to ‘confirm’ their previous booking before opening it up to others to take the remaining cabins. Of course, people taking refunds or using FCC to book alternative cruises may miss out through making alternative arrangements. An early indication of their plans would be helpful before refunds are processed or FCC gets spent.

Its a nightmare situation for them to be honest.  Firstly, they may not know just yet when she is now going to be ready, secondly, they certainly don't know when they are going to be able to start sailing again and thirdly they don't know when Norway is going to open to cruise ships again.  I should think giving anyone an "early indication" is just about impossible.  I dare say they will be formulating several different contingency plans

I thought I stumbled into a heavmetal forum ( iron maiden,😁). Looks like our 29th August Iona could be  Iona maiden cruise.

Seems reasonable the temporary slowdown of work will extend delivery to August/September time.

Even then like Britboys says which countries will agree to let it in.

Don't envy cruiseship management trying to sort this out, it's horrendous.

Let me just add that as this is a new ship, crew need to be trained, especially as there is not another of this class in the fleet, and, different approaches are being taken to certain quest facing operations (how dining and cleaning is done). The big issue is getting the crew to Bremerhaven to board them.

I think most of us have problems NOT thinking Iron Maiden as opposed to Iona Maiden  😁

With all this going on and the finish held up, I would think they would put it all on hold until next year.  we will see.

You may well be right but I think the management will be hoping that at least they can get her into service for the winter season to the Canaries.
