Royal Caribbean Cruisers -- How Are Things Where You Are? (was "Routine" 😁 day in lockdown... how was yours?)

Bon TexasNY-

Not mets07, but another Mets fan.

You are right about Dodger fans becoming Mets fans. My father, from Greenpoint,Brooklyn ,was a long time Dodger fan. He was so glad when the Mets started in NY. I went to many games with him at Shea Stadium.

My DH and I have gone to games at Citi Field. It is a nice stadium, but there was something about going to Shea.

I also saw the Beatles concert there - just great!

There are two local dealers who sell this brand, we’ll check them out.  Much appreciated 🙂!

We picked from a few different lines from this company and it worked well for us.  Hope you find something that works for you.

We flew into San Fran from Toronto on Thursday.  We landed in San Fran around 4pm. We drove right drove to Monterey but we stopped at In and Out for dinner along the way.

You can really see that it was the dry season.  I could imagine how quickly these hills would burn up.

We were just arriving at Monterey as the sun was setting. The Monterey Marriott was our home for the week. it was a long day of travel.

Fond memories of the fries...

On our way to a Hawaiian cruise out of Honolulu, we opted to spend 4 days in LA, to get over the 15.5 hours flight and to visit again, after 22 years.

Our FA tried vainly to switch flights and be with us, but he couldn't find anyone.... Then, one day before our flight, he called us from the taxi which took him to the airport for a JFK bound flight and said: "I'm here, travelling with X, who is quite new, and heard him telling his FA girlfriend that, sadly, he couldn't find anyone to switch from LA to NY, and he will not be with her on their mutual layover"... My son immediately jumped and said: "let's switch NOW, my parents will be in LA!!"

They managed to switch, and we got to spend 2 wonderful days in LA with our son. He knew lots of eating places, but one of his favorites was In and Out, we enjoyed the informal dinner, and, even when he left, we squeezed in one last dinner there...

But, the best seafood restaurant he took us to was Vegas Seafood Buffet in Torrance.

Many months earlier we booked a few presentations at the Inn on Spanish Bay.

They have many different speakers on different topics automotive related. The funds raised to towards community efforts. As it turns out it was a small and intimate gathering. Maybe around 65 people but it might have held 100 in total.

Friday morning we saw Jerry Seinfeld. He spoke about the Porsches that he has owned over the years and did some Q&A at the end. He spoke a bit about his acting career but not much.

Right outside the events tent was a course.  It was typically overcast along the coast and cool but the haze blew off by the end of the day. We left with sunscreen and a sweater every morning. Then scenery was spectacular.

After the presentation we drove to Carmel for lunch. We found an Italian Restaurant which was delicious.

We booked a room with the pool courtyard view. We had to book well in advance pay and pay with no discount on booking day. The room rate was substantially more than the regular rate, think RC President’s cruise idea. There was a very convenient Starbucks around the corner for our morning snack before heading out.

After our Italian lunch we headed to one of the many car auctions that were being held at a place called The Quail.  Pebble Beach on Concours week has become an auction Mecca.  We have a friend who was here from home who was selling some cars at this sale so we came to see him and how it went. The dust in the parking lot was perfect for our Subaru, and small potholes were no worry to us.

If you have watched the TV show Legendary Motor Car you might be familiar with our friend.  Peter was there with his two sons and Dave, one of his salesman.  Lisa and I joined them at a table, after looking at the cars in the auction.  Dennis Collins and Richard Rawlings were there as well. It would have been nice to chat with Dennis for a few minutes, I appreciate what he does with his company Black Mountain.  I could do without Richard from Gas Monkey.

This 288 GTO Ferrari was one of Peter’s cars in the auction.  That would be the one in the left for those unsure. Unfortunately it didn’t meet his reserve, but he says it goes that way some days. I can’t remember which the other was but if I had to guess it was a Shelby Cobra.  He did take a few cars home though from the weekend as well. It’s nice to live through others actions.

How about a classic red Porsche tractor.

This is the first ever McLaren imported to America and it was up for auction.

The winning bidder was hot to get it. I later found out that McLaren bought it. I guess they really, really wanted it back. Here’s a video of the hammer dropping.  It turns out that it wasn’t the most expensive car we saw sell on the weekend.

After the sale wrapped up we joined Peter at his car and he gave us some extra wrist band passes for another auction happening that night.  A nice little freebie as it was a VIP event. All the auctions are pay to enter so at this point we were 1 for 2.

We ditched our car at the hotel and headed the the RM Sotheby’s auction a couple blocks away. RM is actually a restoration and auction company based not far away our home in Chatham, Ontario.

These two micro car cuties greeted us at the entrance, to which they both sold later that night. Hard to believe they were street legal back in the day. Our lawn mower has bigger tires. Engine too. LOL

So, is the driver the crumple zone? I can’t imagine how hot it would get inside of this either... seems like a sauna in the making.

Nothing says load up the skis like Porsche. I guess if Porsche can plow a field, why not head to the gondola.  This is where the cars would stage before the head in to sell.

It is highly unlikely Meghan will fly to the UK because she is pregnant and has a young child.

Harry will have to isolate for 5 days and get a negative covid19 test after arriving in the UK.

The funeral is 3pm on Saturday 17th April so he will need to be here in the next 24-36 hours.

I think the British public will welcome Harry but relations might be a bit tense with some members of the Royal Family.

The funeral will be televised but will be a private funeral with only 30 family there.

I'm sure his Grandma, the Queen, will be very happy to see him.

Thanks Bonnie.

I hope his recovery is speedy and all goes well with removal of the catheter.  Eric has had them for a couple surgeries over the years and his never a happy camper if he still has it in when he gets home.   He took one out himself once.  I didnt want to be anywhere near him while he removed it.

They had all of the cars assembled outside for guests to walk around them.  We grabbed a bite and a drink and walked around taking it in.

Just a few that caught my eye.

@singinalotthis Lamborghini prototype might catch your eye. Maybe a bug in your eye too, if not your hair.

Luggage, we don’t need no stinking luggage, just a spare tire.  When leading the race we don’t need to see who’s behind us. Kind of amazing how small the exhaust is.

They are American made by Telescope Casual. The far two chairs are actually rockers.  We got to choose our fabric which doesn’t sun fade and are mold and mildew proof. The chairs and table bases are made from aluminum.  The end tables and large table tops are made from Marine Grade Polymer.

We have had them for 5 years and would buy their product again.

Hers’s the link to their site.

Thank you.  I like their furniture.  I will have to browse some more.

Last Monterey post of the night. I will pick it up in a few days so I don’t over load the daily thread.

This turned out to be the highest priced car we saw sell over the weekend. This one could/should be near and dear to Grahams’s heart. I can picture him and Pauline roaring across the English countryside in it. Head down to the beach maybe, just without the coffee.

When the hammer fell it was certainly near and dear to someone’s heart and bank account. It was fun to rub elbows with the 1% for one night. From what I heard the car was headed overseas but it was the rumour of the night.

After it sold we packed it up because Saturday was going to be another early day and already close to midnight CA time. One day in a 2 more to go before Alcatraz.

Spoiler alert for 2:26 minutes in the video... it almost sold, only to go for a few more phone bids back and forth.

I have seen two “regular” Huayras in person and one Zonda R. The Zonda was a total beast in comparison. The one is sophisticated and the other is pure animal.  There are some prototype Huarya photos yet to come.

Yes, there is actually a moving 9/11 memorial at Breezy Point (on the bay side) with a walkway and a personalized etched glass panel for each local life lost. Here are some photos I found online. You can see the glass panels in the second shot.

I’m still following Stroman, even though he is no longer a Blue Jay. We’d love to see him play again, but we’d have to make a road trip south. Hopefully one day.

He only got to throw about 9 pitches today and then the game got rained out.

If and when you can get back to NYC, Citifield is a nice stadium.
