It should not take longer that 3 weeks max to move the ships north.

Moving the ships yes, but beforehand you will need to get crews in, logistics for provision etc, hence, approx 2 months you will need at least. Therefore by begining of May we will know if the Alaska season will happen or not.

It seems to me that there are several pinch points in the critical path beyond the cruise lines control that will dictate any new sail dates:

1) Home Port Authority/Coast Guard clearing the port to accept cruise passengers - not likely to happen until the state/province/country they are in is cleared by the CDC/WHO/etc.

2) Lines ability to react efficiently once clearance is received to re-crew/re-position and re-provision their ships, and

3) Some level of itinerary with open ports - again, I doubt any destination ports will allow ships if they are still battling the virus

There’ll certainly be no cruises from Australia & New Zealand before Xmas this year.  Also, with Carnival facing criminal charges for telling their crew on the Ruby Princess not to tell the passengers that there are sick people with flu like symptoms on board before they disembarked in Sydney.  Now over 600 passengers from the Ruby Princess have tested positive to the virus & 11 have died & 90% of the positive tests in Australia have some connection with the ship, currently 5600 positive people in Australia. It is highly unlikely there’ll be any cruising anywhere in the world this year.  Impossible to guarantee not only passenger but crew safety from the virus.  Ruby Princess currently has 200 sick staff onboard, & all the Royal ships heading to Asia also, have sick staff on board.

Imagine...... when cruising resumes the first ship to have another flu outbreak...... results in the closure of ports & most likely passenger confidence will reach an all time low & the rest of the cruise industry will suffer dramatically.  A vaccine is the only answer to cruising resuming in the foreseeable future.

No ship will be sailing out of Florida anytime soon. Florida hasn't even reached it's "apex". Since Governor Dingle didn't issue a statewide stay at home order quickly, that state will be in big trouble over the next month.

Dr. Fauci just said "We are struggling to get it under control". Um yea because 8 states still have no stay at home orders.

Here in New Jersey ...Port Liberty in Bayonne....

Don't see cruises resuming till 2021, at least

NY/Nj has a higher rate than Italy and Spain.

I love cruising and have been on almost 50 with various lines but I am not dyin* to go on a cruise anytime soon.  Please excuse me, I have to go hide eggs.

I want to cruise as much as anyone but without a vaccination and the virus under control, I do not see much of a light at the end of the tunnel this year.  Taking a wait and see for now.

Actually NY is peaking now so it should reopen before Florida.

Royal's headquarters is in Florida so that could prove to be a challenge.

I have a November cruise booked on Oasis.  I'm not feeling very optimistic about that one either.  I'm not sure they will be up and running by then and also if they don't change the 70+ doctor's release, then it's a mute point anyhow.

We have a suite (NRD) for October of this year, on Symphony.  I’m really considering not paying final in June depending on the cancellation situation then. I’m thinking I could always book last minute, if cruises are going.  I just don’t feel like parting with the money today, only to have it cancelled later, and out of my hands for the time in between. We have our flights booked already and can cancel them last minute.

As it stands I already have flight credits with AC and Delta, over and above this trip. The last thing I want is more with RC.

One thing I have yet to hear any details on is  what determines the end of outbreak .......shall we say in  a state.

We are hearing multiple dates for "peaking", but yet to hear when the outbreak is officially over and
"cleared" and how it is cleared.

I am hearing different answers when I ask how long a person remains infectious to others.

One answer was no longer infectious 48 hours after fever breaks.

But if the virus can live upto 78 hours on some surfaces, could it not still be on a recovering person.

And also if a person is exposed to the virus I am reading that they should self quarantine for 14 days.

so if they get the symptoms on day 13, then the ill effects can take awhile to come to light.

Now RCI is not cruising at this time till some time in May, if that happens, which would be great.

But Disney posted it is closing all parks indefinitely.

Now you see why I am confused about all the information.

So, does anyone understand what is going on....

Or am I just confusing myself with data overload.

Thank you

Stay healthy.

Lioness, not knowing what we don’t know is the problem.. There are a lot of people smarter than me working extremely hard day and night to come up with some answers. There is not an easy or quick answer for this virus.  It s a lack of pertinent data that we or anyone else has.  There will be clarity in the next 4 to 5 weeks and maybe people can make more educated choices for their lives.  But, I believe that it would be foolhardy to start cruising this summer.   I truly pray that we learn from this pandemic and be better prepared when something like this happens again.  Politicians need to defer to the doctors and scientists.  They do know more and smarter in their respective fields.

I am new to this and have a cruise booked for Dec, but cannot see how any cruise ship will sail until there is a vaccine and documentation that you got the shot. 25% of the cases are asymptomatic. The virus is not going away, just slowing the spread right now. Plus not everyone is tested at least in the USA or Canada. So who know at muster whether the guy or gal standing next to you is a carrier. So no way to screen at the port. With thousands on a ship, there is bound to be a carrier, buffet, hot tub, theater, casino, it just no way to social distance. So once the virus spread on the ship again, which port of entry again. This is Russian roulette at it best. Hate to sound negative. How would you run the business if you were the CEO.

You don't have to be experienced. You just need common sense to see what's happening which by what you posted shows that you do.   If I was CEO I would take whatever package they were offering for my resignation.

Every time I see one of these dog/cat/tiger articles, I can only wonder why they are wasting tests on animals when they don't have enough tests for people?

Me too but they claimed that animals were immune from Covid 19. By testing animals it shows how the virus has changed since first discovered and perhaps it will lead to a vaccine or remedy.

The required doctor recommendation, as was mentioned in an earlier post in this thread, is very concerning. Would be nice to see when that goes away.

Then of course there's flying.  Who knows what will be available to go where we need to go to catch a cruise.

Trying to guess when cruising will start again just doesn't seem all that important.  It must be so difficult for all of the families who have lost a loved one in all of this pandemic.🙏  Yet, I do understand that maybe it gives a bit of something fun to anticipate.
