APRIL 6 REFUND THREAD: Have you received your refund?

I was on a May cruise that got cancelled. I was paid in full including pre-paid gratuities, some shop items and some pre-paid dining items. I filled out the on-line forms for the FCC but didn't see any activity. A few days ago I received an e-mail from my assigned PVP so today I figured I would give him a call. We chose the FCC option since I paid almost entirely in Carnival gift cards. We already booked a March 2021 cruise. The 2021 cruise was more expensive so I knew we would still have a balance due. The PVP was very nice and said no problem he would take care of it. Since I got off the phone with him I have literally gotten 11 different e-mails from the "cabinconfirmation" e-mail over a 2 hour period. Every e-mail the amount I show due kept going down. The balance due on the last e-mail now looks reasonable but I want to confirm what part of what I paid should be a FCC. Should it include the pre-paid gratuities and other pre-paid items? What about taxes, fees and port expenses. I see 2 line items under the "payments received" section, one for "credits/coupons" and one for "payments received". Neither of the amounts seem to correlate to anything. Want to double check what should have been a credit for my new cruise vs. how much I can expect to receive back on gift cards.

On March 31, I canceled a NCL cruise and was told my money would be refunded to my cards in 20 days.  On day 20, part of my money was refunded to my Amex.  I am waiting the rest of my refund to my NCL Mastercard.  They are now telling folks it will be 90 days.

On April 15, I rebooked my May 25 cruise on Carnival for October.  On April 16, my new booking was cancelled due to nonpayment of deposit.  I was booked on a casino offer of $200 deposit with $200 OBC.  I called my PVP who fixed it for now (still showing a deposit due, but the moved the final payment date to May 2).  Hopefully they will get it fixed.  I am waiting on refunds for our shore excursions.  I hope to get them refunded back before we cruise in October!  LOL

I am also waiting on a refund from American Airlines of $3200.  Our NCL cruise was out of Venice and to the Greek Isles.  American canceled the Venice, Italy portion of our trip, so we were told we would get a refund.  That was done on April 15 also.  Not sure how long that will take.

By the time I get all my refunds, I can take a nice vacation!!!  LOL

I received an $845.00 carnival gift card fairly fast.  I used a bunch of their gc to book my cruise and some credit card payments.  Haven't seen those refunded yet.

Today I tried to book a cruise in February with a $300.00 deposit.  Tried using the said $845.00 card and the site came back showing that the balance after using was $00.00.

Anyone have any insight?

FYI.....I didn't go forward with this reservation!

I did say something previous about this, as it happened to me. I called my PVP, who confirmed that they used some of my refunds to pay off the balance.

I was told it would take up to a week for the amount to be correct. When you book another cruise, the PVP has to fill out paperwork to have the penalty that is automatic removed. I was told when the OBC shows, the number should be correct.

Well this is very interesting.

i should be on my royal cruise right now. Today my friend who I was going to cruise with said she got. $550.00 refund on her Amex card today but nothing on the MC she paid the remaining cost of the cruise, around $750.00 . So is there a reason why the lines would rush to credit Amex cards and not other cards....this is suspicious and more than just a coincidence

It’s not suspicious.  I think Amex is just quicker with their refunds than Visa or MC.  I don’t think the cruise lines are rushing to refund one card over another.  I will keep watching and call if I don’t see the refund by the end of the week.

My biggest concern is American.  I am worried they will just give me credit instead of my money back.

Just wanted to update:

Cancelled March 10th

Sailing March 21st

Received email March 28th indicating FCC amount that would be credited - I had requested refund. Called Carnival and rep told me she saw the refund request and was passing it on to accounting.

April 20th: AMEX refunded for amount charged to that card - dated March 28th. Still waiting for VISA to be refunded for remaining charges (used 2 cards to pay over a year and a half).

The article says they were told they would get a refund in 14 days. Has anyone else here been told this? All I've ever heard was 90 days. I wonder if it was a computer generated letter that would go out under normal circumstances and wasn't adjusted for what's happening now.

This is the e-mail I got, dated March 18.  It says 5-7 business days.  No refund yet.

Please be advised, we regret to inform you your pre-sales order, xxxxx01, has been cancelled due to Full Booking Cancellation.  A refund to the credit card ending in has already been processed through our system and should show on your account within 5-7 business days, depending on your bank.

We apologize for any inconvenience this change may have caused, and we encourage you to book another one of our great online offerings. They are the perfect way to enhance your cruise vacation experience, and Carnival is adding new ones all the time.

That is the same email I received on March 15 for our excursion refund after we cancelled the booking. I never received an email confirming the cancellation of the booking itself. I’m thankful that email at least mentioned the excursions were cancelled due to a Full Booking Cancellation. That provides a bit of confirmation even though the email is really about the excursions.

we cancelled the booking on Mar 14 and have received no refund or communication from Carnival since that email.

I cancelled our 3/13/20 cruise a week before the departure date. STILL waiting for our refund of onboard purchases (WiFi and room purchases). We rescheduled our cruise for January of next year, but neither of us is feeling good about things right now. Will Carnival even be in business by then?

We received the second of our three refunds this morning.  This is actual Carnival doing the refund, NOT a credit card dispute.  It was dated March 14th, the day we phoned and asked for a full refund.

These were on a Discover and a Visa cards.  These refunds are a little over $2500.

Refunds are starting and happening indeed now.  We were a March 25th cruise.

Waiting on our last and largest refund amount on a Mastercard Debit.  I assume this one might take a few days if they actually let it be released earlier this week.

It’s not Amex  it’s the cruise line . CC will process the refund once the line submits the refund claim, doesn’t take weeks longer for the other CC to process.
My point was it’s funny how the line is submitting the claim to Amex before other cards.

I cancelled the same time and received our on board purchases. Did you receive confirmation that you cancelled. I thought I hadn't and it came back so quick I missed it on my credit card.

I received the remainder of my refund for my March 21st sailing today. AMEX yesterday, VISA today. I will note that the refund was dated March 28th (the day I re-requested the full refund) so didn't show at the top of the statement. I only knew it had been processed as my balance due decreased significantly so I went through all transactions to find out why. I have been checking all cards daily since I am waiting on several refunds. You might want to scroll through transactions back to the date you cancelled/submitted your request just to check they are not there! You might be pleasantly surprised!

I used AMEX and don't have any refunds yet. They are probably processing charges as they happened and not by card processor.

Amex frequently has offers to “spend $500 on a Carnival cruise reservation and get a $100 statement credit”.  If refunds are made to the card, the statement credits are reversed.  I have had this happen.  This might have something to do with it.

So it looks like they are doing refunds for the March cruise dates first. I cancelled on March 9, but it was for a May cruise. Haven't gotten anything yet, even for the shore excursions.

It's my understanding they are refunding the earliest cruises first and then go through the year, so I have a way to go before they get to August.

Funny thing is she used two cards, one Amex the other MC , only the Amex card has gotten the refund of the amount charged on that card, the remainder of $750.00 on her MC still nothing

I have received 2 of several refunds I am owed from Fun Shop and Shore Excursion purchases. (and possibly port fees & taxes) and they were to 2 different card so I do not believe the card used has anything to do with it. They were also 2 different dates.

However, they were both considered Fun Shop purchases I believe. (one was for specialty dining)

Carnival Glory Cruise for 10/25/2020 Sail Date:

1) Booked on March 7th, 2019 - Paid $718.00 for Vacation protection, Prepaid Gratuities, deposit.  VISA (Synchrony Financial/PayPal)

2) Paid entire remaining balance on June 30th 2020 = $1532.90  MASTERCARD (Citi)

3) Cancelled March 22nd, 2020 - IAW Contract, prior to 90 days before sailing date, I am entitled to a 100% refund back to original forms of payment.

4) I am in receipt of a Cancellation Confirmation stating that I would receive FULL refunds within 10-14 business days.

5) Called on 14th Business Day:  April 9th, 2020 and inquired as to why I have not been paid back yet.  Carnival employee was EXTREMELY rude and told me "if you are lucky, you MIGHT see a refund in 90 days or so".
I asked to speak to a supervisor.  Supervisor was likewise rude and told me there was nothing he could do and HUNG UP IN MY EAR without another word.

6) On April 9th, 2020, I filed a dispute with Citi, claiming failure to refund monies for services not received.  I included ALL relevant documentation including the cancellation letter, the online cancellation policy, AND the boiler plate "Cruise Contract" with applicable passages highlighted.... in the total amount of $1532.90

7) On April 9th, 2020, I filed a similar dispute with Synchrony Financial in the amount of $718.00

8.  On April 10th, Synchrony confirmed receipt of dispute and documents.

9) On April 11th, Citi confirmed receipt of dispute, and requested documentation (that had ALREADY been submitted).

10) On April 15th, I filed a complaint with the Louisiana Attorney General's office against CCL for failure to refund for services not rendered and failure to maintain required escrow funding.

11) On April 15th, I lodged complaints with my Louisiana State Rep and Senator.

12) On April 15th, I lodged complaints with my US Representative, and both Senators.

There is NO balance on these cards to suspend.  I pay my bills in full EVERY month, regardless of the circumstances.
Carnival Cruise Lines should do the same.  IF I owed THEM $2,250.90, they sure as heck wouldn't let ME have 90+ days or forever...

Carnival has an accounting issue.  WE have a "putting food on the table" issue, as we, like many of you, have lost ALL sources of income.

What Carnival, et al. are doing is reprehensible and tantamount to criminal theft.

I am billing Carnival for the use of my funds at 22.5% interest calculated on an average daily balance method.

They will pay the full refund AND interest in excess of the MAX 14 business days THEY quoted to me IN WRITING, or I will place a lien on the Carnival Glory and sue them for the funds AND the pain and suffering they are causing my family.

I will never sail on Carnival Cruise Lines again....  EVER!
