MsTabbyKats - exactly.

Of course, there's a segment of society that thinks it's above rules (or at least rules that it doesn't like). We see them draped in flag, screeching in the faces of nurses and police.

This will make it "interesting" for ship Security workers of cruising reopens while distancing is still necessary. Many, many cruisers won't accept the risk for being onboard for days and days amidst people who refuse to wear masks.

Yet you can easily imagine 20 or 50 - or 1,500 ??? - on any cruise ripping off the mask before the embarkation lunch and loudly declaring they won't put it back until luggage pickup at the end of the trip.

       Regardless of which side "wins,"

Security and the Guest Services Desk will not be fun jobs to work.

Not too many protestors are going to throw away thousands of dollars, especially when news cameras aren't rolling. There's no money in it.

It would be nice if they could give passengers the option of watching a recording of the muster drill in their cabins and have to sign off on it for each cabin member after watching it.  Then the people who don't do that have to attend the muster drill.

They are working on that so we all stay in the cabins and select ok after watching it from tv remote.

I like that idea. After all, many elementary through college level classes are taught online. Why not watch a video in the comfort of your cabin? It would save a LOT of time.

I think SOLAS specifies the requirements for muster drills, so it isn't really up to individual cruise lines. I suppose SOLAS could do a temporary or permanent change to the requirements.

Costa Concordia will haunt cruise ships for a long time.

I am not flying anywhere soon but wearing a mask on a 2 hour flight is a lot different than wearing one all day out on decks and inside the ship. Once again some people would rather attack others than have a real discussion.

I also know what the point of wearing a mask is supposed to accomplish, but people eating and drinking will be removing their masks.  How do I know you didn't sneeze in your hand before you put your mask on and left your room. Wearing a mask is not a magic elixir

likely that is for the staff, ppl are just running with the idea we all have to wear masks onboard.  a casino opened in westwood already and they did not require patrons wear masks, only the staff and dealers.  i dont think in 3- 4 months we would be required to , as that would kill the cruise experience.

I disagree about your character attack on people who don't want to wear a mask.  What does the mask actually accomplish.  I don't see how a cruise line can ask people to wear a mask.  First, how do you eat and drink?  Does everyone have to go back to their cabins?  How do you have social distancing on a cruise ship.

I am not one of the ones protesting or refusing to wear a mask where required.  But If wearing a mask is a requirement to cruise then I would cancel.  Seems like too much of a hassle.

I agree.  Masks are gross.  People touch them all the time with dirty hands and take them on and off and put them in unsanitary pockets or handbags and then put them back on their faces.  People are introducing germs to their faces with those things.  If you don’t want to get sick, your hands shouldn’t be near your face at all— ever.

People touch their face 16 times average or 23 times depending on studies. I figure those are higher on cruise (humidity, wind, dancing on lido, alcohol).

On another note will certain ports limit how far cruise passengers can leave port area?

That has never been brought up in these speculations, so no one knows. But that would open up a can of worms, because how could such a restriction be enforced? I suggest it could not be....it could but would be VERY expensive for the port authority to hire more enforcement officers....or policia....or militia...or federales, etc, etc, etc.

Depends on the insurance. I know of at least a couple that have no time limit on pre-existing conditions

will you post what insurance has no time limit on pre-existing conditions please.  I have yet to find one

One is Geoblue (Medical insurance) - https://www.geobluetravelinsurance.com/

I have an annual policy from them. Not all plans have, so check.

"The GeoBlue Voyager Choice plan is available to those who have primary insurance inside the U.S. and will cover medical treatments for pre-existing conditions. Please refer to the definition of a primary health plan for more specific information on what plans qualify as a primary insurance."

One gotcha on many insurance companies and plans is they may not pay if alcohol or drugs (even if legal) are involved. You might want to check that.

I though I knew of another, but they must have changed. I'm sure there are more.

That's an interesting notion.

I agree - it's just not practical to think Cozumel or Nassau or where ever would have 2,000 people ready to follow each cruise visitor around. In the bigger cities, many cruise passengers just become part of the large  tourist landscape - so you might literally need 2,000 "keepers" (or some GPS dog collar?). No thanks - think I'll wait til the virus is controlled.

Now if we could get an administration that has even clue about how to start doing that ....

I find that social distancing will be impossible on any cruise.  Cruise lines use ever square foot for maximum efficiency.  How many times have you had a convo with the people at the next table in the dining room.  They are 'almost' sitting at the same table.  It wasn't a bad thing and part of cruising.  But for hours the dining rooms are pretty full and there is a waiting list at times for anytime dining.  Meanwhile Lido is serving even more people and several specialty dining restaurants are doing well also.

I am in favor of wearing masks but I can't figure a way to eat with it on.  Then there is drinking any beverage.  Sitting in the sun enjoying a cool refreshing beverage.  This is the life!  But I can't with a mask on.  Even walking up to a bar to get a drink is busy at the norm.

Head down to the shopping area and there is a pretty good crowd and a raffle going on in the jewelry store.  The center of the store is pretty crowded. Hey my wife loves to shop.

Casino in the evening is 1000 sounds of people shoulder to shoulder enjoying a game of chance.  The promenade is busy with people sometimes just wandering around.  The clubs full with people listening to music.

You have been there, with crowds and lines and all and it is the "norm" .  But now there is this social distancing and it isn't working well at the local Wally World or the home improvement center.  Why would anyone think it will work on a ship?

If I was in charge of any cruise line I can't imagine trying to make a absolute safe environment.   I can't even figure a way to feed the thousands of  passengers and still distance them from one another.

I am in NC and Wake Forest is doing a study on the actual spread of this plague.  It is reaching out across 100's of square miles and attempting to take into account all walks of life.  From city to country, from upper and lower classes, etc.  The study is far from over but thus far they are seeing as they look for antibodies in peoples blood that 2 percent of the population shows they have had the Virus.  2 percent sounds so small but then here in NC we have a population of 10.5 million.  Extrapolating  that out it is about 210,000 people in the state have had and survived the virus.  But then the confirmed cases are officially 17,494.  That is 12 times the official count.  Some of these people never knew they had it . Others have had symptoms but didn't call the doctor.

I am making some assumptions and I really don't like to assume things but if this 2 percent is representative of infection rate and it maintains true thru the remainder of the study with more and more people tested, then this is more wide spread that thought.  But even Dr Fauci and Dr Birx  have eluded that they believed it was wider than the actual numbers.  This to me means at this time 2 of 100 people boarding are immune for some unknown period of time.  This also means that some will board with the virus that won't be yet effecting their body temp and they will just not know that they are infected.  And this is not just at the home port but at each port.  Covid will strike the cruise ships.  And I don't see any cruise being able to stop it.  I do see them making a good stab at it. I think a goal that is brought up in reopening planning meetings is safety and having a passenger base that at least has a feeling that it is safe enough to book.

I think that the number of passengers on board has to be reducing significantly and wearing of masks on the inside of the ship will be mandatory.  I believe there are people that will not want to wear a mask and I can see a good argument to say its value is diminished because eating and drinking and  will be an exception.  I believe there will be a tiny little lady outside of each restaurant saying "washy washy", but you won't see her cute smile.  Sterile masks will be found in your cabin for next day use.  It won't make formal night as attractive.  Maybe the theater and comedy club will have more shows over a greater period of time.  Maybe the store will be having the "sales" and give a ways in larger rooms on the ship.  I don't think it will look like what we are use to but then it may be fun anyway. And there is the rub, different yet still enjoyable.  There is always a risk to everything you do, even driving to work, but we as people must ask ourselves is it worth the risk?  I think many will say it is worth it and others will say wait and see.  I think stewards will be cleaning rooms more often and have less rooms under their charge and maybe the tip rate will be increased.

I have a back to back in November and IF I feel pretty confident that the risk is not too great I will be on it. We love to cruise and I have a pent up demand in my spirit to go again.  Yutta Hay my friends. Don't let fear rule your life but also be safe.

Yup....and those are unavoidable on a cruise.  Eating and drinking is a common activity and it can't be done with a mask on a ship or on land.
