Game tables and Virus

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

When cruising, I enjoy the gaming tables and slots in the casino.

I am wondering how the sitting at  tables with players that are elbow to elbow,  sometime knee to knee contact, not even mentioning blowing into the air when smoking given  the virus adjustments now being implemented will change or will it. Casino revenue is a large chunk of cruise profit and each chair is part of this generation I'm not sure that want to forgo.

Are there any thought about how this may pan out

There are certainly plenty of germs floating around land and sea based casinos, but I dont see how the casino presents much more expsoure than the bars, pool or gyms.

Haven't they closed down bars, gyms, dept stores barbershops

and pools? Mandating 6 ft spacing.

Hi.

Right. The same as casinos.

Nobody is going to go back to casinos, gyms, bars, and cruise ships until they feel perfectly safe.

We can only speculate to what extent businesses will have to make changes so that enough people would feel they are willing to support any given business. What might make you feel comfortable, would not necessarily be enough for someone else.

You don't have to go much further than the many threads of this site to understand that even before this virus came along, there were lots of people who were already making an effort to wipe down everything they might touch. Not only on ships but everywhere. All this, while at the same time many others wouldn't even wash their hands after going to the bathroom. Go figure.

So, there will be changes. We just don't know what will be sufficient for any given situation. Needless to say, if the business can't be profitable, there won't be a business.

We were in Las Vegas just before casinos were closed there.  On Friday the 13th one casino was turning off every other slot machine.  Guess they thought that would work for social distancing.

Sorry I guess i was misunderstood.  I meant that if you operate a cruise ship with bars, pools and gyms; then closing the casinos wont really make it any 'safer.'

I've always  wished they would WASH THE CHIPS!  Or at least spray them down with disinfectant.  More likely everything will go electronic with no dealers at tables and that will be the end of my table play. Too easy to cheat the player if everything is programmed.

I've always wondered why they haven't created a gambling app that you can use when on the ship.  I would imagine someone would find it appealing to play craps on their phone while sitting in a hot tub.  Does anyone know if there are any cruise-lines that do this?

I think Princess now has it with their medallions instead of keycards. Maybe Carnival also.

They've done that on some of the cruises we've been on with the neurovirus.

Touchless technology exists, chips being converted to electronic banks, to non-touch screen with slots, this will require a lot of money to convert.  "Wiping down chips" isn't as big as a problem as the "germ sponge" green table felt is; someone will need to clean that after each and every person leaves.  Furthermore, your player card and the cashier's cash is another issue.  A popular opinion is, don't change anything, assuming the supply is there, everyone in the casino wears a N95 mask.  The problem is, many gamblers use their mouth to smoke and drink.  Without casinos (which aren't owned by the cruise lines) spending a lot money to greatly reduce physical contact , if the 'Rona is still a threat, allowing you to gamble via virtual app seems like the best solution to me.  Virtual apps make sense if there's a video feed of a real dealer.

I totally understood and was trying to understand why others didn't 🙂

Totally agree with your point ... if a ship sails then good luck isolating or segregating one area vs another and any attempt like that would be laughable and who would sail with all the social areas closed, especially if the cost isn't altered A LOT.  Even the hallways would be a challenge, what would they do ... make them all one way since they wouldn't be wide enough for anyone to pass each other 6ft apart.  And elevators ... expect a long wait as one person or family gets on at a time.  And on and on it goes.

I am going back as soon as they open

Nevada gaming commission is starting to issue some guidelines for when casinos re-open.  I found it interesting that they want to restrict BlackJack to 3 players per table, and just 4 players per table at Roulette and Poker.   There is mention of regular cleaning of chips, cards, etc, but not sure how they would handle that.

I think we'll see a lot more electronic games.  I've seen four types:

1)  Purely electronic/no physical dealer

2)  No dealer but the physical craps dice, roulette wheel, etc while locally located is still activated by electronics (pictured)

3)  Remote video feed of a live dealer not locally located

4)  Live video feed of a dealer located in the casino that you can see

Like slots, all betting is electronic so no one needs to worry about cleaning chips or the felt top.  Cleaning crew simply just needs to wipe down the screen after a player leaves.

This seems to be lost in the noise.  I even sometimes find myself thinking I can't touch anything and I have to remind myself it's okay ...just wash hands or sanitize before I carry on and absent mindedly touch my face.

So much is about remembering to be self aware of touching ones face. I even ponder those that are out and about getting groceries and such with gloves on, not sure the benefit as one can still touch ones face with them on and it might give false sense of protection ... unless the idea is the glove is a reminder to think before touching.

Fellow Gamblers:  Have seen some things.  Not every slot machine on the floor will necessarily be open.  They are experimenting with ultra violet light to clean slot machines.  There will be a limit on table games of number of players.  There will be more cleaning of dice, chips, and areas frequently touched by players. There will be extra hand sanitizers.  Nothing will be self serve on the ship.  Everything will be done by a crew member.

Thanks!  When you say "they", is there a specific cruise line you're referring to?

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO NutsAboutGolf:  The "they" refers to the company that is manufacturing the equipment that uses ultra violet light to clean the slot machines.  Also, company that runs the casino may require masks and gloves to stop the spread of germs.

Gloves are worse than no gloves unless you are constantly changing them. People think, 'oh I have gloves on, I'm protected. I can touch anything!' They are simply your new skin.

People don't wash gloves or change gloves, they can hand wash.
