Pstreet12 Posted April 19, 2020 #1 Share Posted April 19, 2020 News item on cruiselines slowing down, or cancelling, orders of new ships at one shipyard. Definitely food for thought: https://cruisefever.net/cruise-lines-tell-shipyard-they-wont-need-some-of-the-new-cruise-ships-they-ordered/
Ourusualbeach Posted April 19, 2020 #2 Share Posted April 19, 2020 They must have some facts wrong in the story. First they say they will slow down production so they only build 2 ships a year then they list the original schedule that has 3 for 2020 and 2 each year for 2021, 2022 and 2023. Doesn’t seem like much of a slowdown.
taglovestocruise Posted April 19, 2020 #3 Share Posted April 19, 2020 Those 9 ships would carry almost 2 million passengers a year. Take away those million cabin assignments and the old ships will sail full.

If cruising resumed tomorrow, I don’t think you would see anything close to ships sailing close to full capacity across the board.

Thats what I said in my post. If you read the article it states; ”This will delay the completion date for new ships that are currently under construction. The shipyard will now build just two new cruise ships a year.” Then it does on to state the current timetable which I posted which is why I said I think the article has some facts wrong. I agree. We're sailing in Oct, 2020, and we're not expecting a full ship.

Stay tuned for the next wave of cancellations.
