I just got an email from HAL offering me up to $250 OBC if I put more $$ down on my Dec cruise ($750) or if I pay the balance now 10% off + $250 OBC.

I just want my $$$ back from the cruise HAL canceled. I was going to use some of it to purchase 1 excursion for our December cruise.

Did you book directly with HAL? We also have a December cruise but did not receive the offer although we booked with VTG and my cruise consultant appears to be furloughed or laid off. With the company operating with a severely reduced staff I wonder if I’d ever get the offer (if it was offered) We do not owe much anyway since we had a FCC to use due to a wonky Hawaii cruise (not HAL’s fault).

We have a December cruise booked directly with HAL.  We did not get the offer.  They do owe us a lot of money and I’ve let them know no new monies until refunds begin to flow.

I booked with a travel agency, but the email came directly to my email.   I believe any cruises which are eligible got “tagged” for the email offer and delivered straight to the customer/cruiser.

My TA was not aware of this, when I forwarded the email.

Thank you, I’ll keep an eye out. Off topic but your dog looks like our Phoebe (sans sunglasses, lol), I’ll try to post a small picture. IMG_5673.JPG

I know that this might be an issue, but one can hope!

The government CARES act required all companies discontinue stockholder dividends, so CCL is not paying future dividends.

The cruise lines are not beneficiaries of (and thus not subject to) the CARES Act.  If they have suspended dividends, it’s because they can’t afford to pay them.

I don't know all the intricacies. I hold a number of dividend stocks and many of my shareholder commnications have communicated their decision to take federal aid indicating their temporary dividend payouts.

I would take the offer, but don't book directly with HAL.  I figure with their equity and Saudi investments, CCL will overcome this, and honor all these transactions.  I just purchased a $1,000 gift card, and applied the $200 bonus giftcard towards our April 2022 OBC.

now this is interesting... could you buy the gift cards with the 20% bonus and pay off your cruise balance for the 10% discount? + $250 OBC?

I'm sure it is not, but the offer received by the OP sounds almost bogus. That seems a bit of a reach to me for the cruise line to attempt to raise money in such a way.

Maybe I'm missing something.

In any event, I believe I'd pass and keep my money.

You're correct, it's not bogus.  As others have said (yours truly included), we received the same offer.   And you're not missing anything -- clearly it's HAL trying to raise cash.  Not bogus, but it's not anything I'm interested in doing.

If cash is this tight at HAL, I feel sorry for all these people waiting for refunds. This is becoming a deplorable situation all around.

I've been cruising almost since the beginning of time....1964....and I've watched the cruise industry become the envy of the world in terms of business success and of the impact it has had on travel and vacations. I hope this does not bring it all down to a dreadful end.

I noticed the "Fine Print" says that the OBC cannot be used in the casino or for gratuities.

It has always said the same thing for the shareholder's OBC, but for all the lines owned by CCL not been applied.

This is what I'm wondering about. I booked with a travel agent, but I'm very curious about the possibility of taking advantage of both offers.

I have a cruise booked Nov. 21, 2020 and another booked April 24, 2021. I did not receive this offer.  I wouldn't expect it to apply to the April 2021 cruise as it was a rebooking with a lot of perks. I plan to call my travel agent and have her find out if my Nov. cruise is eligible.  It may be considered fall cruise but it is 200 days out.

The T&Cs don't define eligible cruises by the number of days out, they say that "Summer and Fall 2020" cruises are excluded.  Last time I checked, Nov. 21, 2020 was still part of the Fall.  Not saying you shouldn't spend time calling your TA, but since it's a Fall cruise, that's the likely reason you didn't receive this offer.

I have a Jan 2021 Mexico cruise booked and I got the email a couple of days ago. I'm thinking about it. We booked the cruise on board this January and then I rebooked it under the current promotions to get the free drinks package and daily service charge. If they keep this up and the cruise actually takes place its going to turn into a smoking great deal.
