Who is making new reservations?

Recommended Posts

Just for the self interest I booked a cabin on Princess for November 2022. It was free of charge. I want to see how well they will take care of such reservations. Maybe offer a discount or offer me a better deal. I will be glad to see at least something for booking so far ahead

You brought up your “top status”. I just don’t think it should matter when it comes to how Royal is handling this situation. Don’t get offended. I understand everyone that has a cruise booked or cancelled has many of the same issues

in the context that the line should not count on the lure of status as enough to keep their most loyal cruisers loyal, if they have policies like this with the deposits on "replacement" cruises ( let's face it, far more people willing to take the FCC and rebook are giong to be experienced cruisers than brand new ones, who are likely to be more concerned about safety AND more likely to change plans to a land based vacation).

goodness you seem bothered by someone mentioning status though---it wasn't meant as a brag---I am sure you and many others have lots of nice things which  I do not, go lots of places I do not, probably sail pricier sailings and in nicer cabins, most likely live in a bigger place than I do and on and on. I am nowhere near rich. I simply happen to like cruising, a lot, and have for a coupel of deacdes now.

I only meant that I think RCI might be counting on the C&A members to be a lot of what fill the cruises for the next year or two and they shouldn't think offering a few onboard perks is enough to outweigh some of these shennanigans.  Overall I like the ocmpany.  I actually want to see them succeed in spite of this pandemic.  I hope they realize some of their policies need to be rethought.

Agree, also not well off Retired Military/Fixed income here. Cruising Royal Solo-above 340 I alone save more then most, other lines cant match. Called Royal/C&A 10 times last 4 weeks, wait at most is 1min. Last time Rates this low was post 9/11. With Discounts Royals offering more often now, Military, no single supplement, Drink Plan $39, even Coca Cola plan on sale. Lately these Discounts every 3rd or 4th Cruise I Completed/Booked is Free. Cruised other lines but I'm getting best deal with Royal. Know many other C&A Members also booking more rather then less Cruises

I'm cancelling our 2 cruises for this Fall with RCCL.  One is done, and I'm waiting to see if they offer penalty-free cancellation for other one that has a NRD.

It's not so much the cruise, but the flying that bothers us.  We put a deposit on a 10 night Princess cruise for this November with a refundable deposit.  Too good to pass up with free premier drink package including gratuities, free wifi, and free tips.

Our RCCL cruises now are one in Spring,  and a back-to-back in Fall, both in 2021.  By then, we are hoping we will be vaccinated (twice by Fall 2021).

We had a paid for Oct cruise out of Rome.  Decided it was probably going to have some issues, either flight or cruise.  We moved the money to a 2021 Sept cruise out of Rome and used the left over balance (saved about $2K) to paid down a Dec 2021 cruise we have booked.

I had two booked for 2021 and one for 2022 so far. I was supposed to be on Radiance this Tuesday.  That was cancelled so I booked a replacement on Serenade with a similar itinerary for the same time next year. I used FCC to pay for that.  Because I have way to much time on my hands at the moment I keep looking at itineraries and prices and stumbled across one on Adventure in Dec. 2021 that looked great to me so I put a deposit down on that. So that is four 2021.  So I know have four booked in 2021. Thankfully they suspended the release of the 21/22 schedule or there is no telling what my cruise planner might look like.

I have absolutely no concern that the cruise lines are about to go bankrupt.  I have little doubt that accommodations will be made for some sort of social distancing, ie slower and more regimented boarding and more controlled traffic in the windjammer.  Also, there will be an increased focus on good hand hygiene.  All good things in my opinion.

People who are scared can not cruise.  People who are waiting for Bill Gates to inject them with his poisonous vaccines before cruising can stay home. People who feel they are a high risk can stay home. Those of us who are not afraid or already had it and now have the antibodies and are protected will cruise.  I trust my immune system.  We'll likely cruise at a better price because demand will be lower for the next couple of years.

To the OP, I've booked and will be actively looking for more bookings once they start releasing the rest of 21/22

Most  2021 Transatlantic cruises were released the week of November 11, 2019

I am playing the BUMP game.  Moved some 2021 stuff to either 2022 or later in 2021 in order to accommodate moving two cruises from 2020.  One on a Mouse ship and one on a DAM ship.

I lost both RCI cruise for April and May and got FCC / refund.

Hoping for the best for Odyssey being on time as I am on her in April 2021 as well as July 2021 out of ROME.

sure wish ALL cruise lines would post 2022 schedules soon.

Royal’s  would usually come out this November/December

Royal’s are available until April 2022 for most ships which is as far out as you can use your FCC for.

Waiting for refunds on 4 cruises cancelled in 2020.  Had b2b out of Dubai scheduled for 2021 but RCI cancelled them a while ago.  Got reimbursed for a 2/24/20 RCI cancelled cruise on Quantum, will not consider booking another cruise until I receive the refunds for the 4 cruises of May and September. In other words, the last 7 cruises I booked with RCI have been cancelled, not in a hurry.

I can understand why you'd be hesitant to book for awhile!

We want to make a new reservation once our current TA cancels so we can use our FCC.  Won't cancel until final like many others hoping to get FCC for NRD vs just a loss.  Can't wait to get back cruising.  RCCL is still publicly saying they will restart in June.  I hope so.  That would give some time to see how it goes to help make a decision on how soon to book again.

They also said they were restarting in May, The month before they said they were restarting in April.  Don’t read anything into June, they are only cancelling 30 days at a time like many other cruise lines.

Ken, what's your best guess on a real restart date?

We rebooked our cancelled cruise later this year after hurricane season settles down (don't need another variable in the cancellation decision tree). No need to obsess about it now and play the "what if" games. We'll just see what the situation is near departure date and make that last minute call on whether to proceed or cancel (or the cruise line could make that decision for us again).

I think restart will be in phases. FL will start long before NY does they may even limit the number of ships initially as they start staffing back up.  I'm hopeful that we'll get the requirements they need to restart in June, the cruise lines will start announcing restarts in July  and how they are going implement those requirements and August we'll start to see the first of cruise ships start moving.  I suspect the Alaska season will be a write off.  Canada won't open Vancouver and Victoria without opening the east coast ports and Quebec has been much harder hit than BC.  If you know anything about Canadian politics Quebec will always come first in everything. The west is always last. BC has been affected quite lightly, we have only 79 people actually hospitalized and 24 in ICU so most of these measures out here are way out of proportion.  Unfortunately, the Alaska season will be sacrificed to Canadian politics.

I don't know about enough about Europe to comment except that Civitavecchia and Barcelona are critical ports for the Med season and I can't see them opening any time soon so I suspect the Med season is a write off too.

The sooner the better in my books.

I wouldn't count on a vaccine. It's been 30 + years and we still don't have one for HIV.

HIV is a whole lot more preventable.

How about the common cold?  Been around for a lot longer.

Me, I already have cruises booked into 2022...so no new bookings for me for awhile.  And not cancelling what I have...letting RCI do that...one cruise at a time.

I’m ready to book but not until I get my refund for my cancelled April cruise.  It’s been 25 business days and still waiting.  Once I get it, I’ll take that and book a couple more but I want that money for deposits. I’m not willing to tie up more cash yet.

I have 3 booked for 2021 and one more for 2020 in October.  I’m still hopeful for October. However my other 2 in 2021 are up in the air as it’s on Allure out of Galveston and she may not be coming due to the stoppage of construction for the new terminal.

We did, not giving up on my lifetime dream of crossing the Atlantic, could not happen this year so we made reservations to do it next year. Opted for a suite, thinking there may be some new advantages, can't hurt.

There are some awesome cabins open for sailings in August.  I could get aft balconies on both cruises I’m looking at for a decent price.  Where’s my refund money?

I had a cruise booked for Nov 2020 that I cancelled ... We rescheduled for June of 2021. Hopefully everything will be settled by then, if not, I booked it fully refundable just in case. Worse case scenario, I cancel before final payment and get all my money back. But I guess time will tell .... (side note: the cruise we booked was Norwegian Fjords out of Amsterdam and there weren’t many balcony or ocean view rooms left already this far out, so I guess that’s a good sign)

I had 2 cruises booked (one in Nov and one in Dec) before this all started - I'm keeping them for now and hoping they sail. Thanks to Royal's casino offering me a free junior suite a few weeks ago, I took the leap and booked a late Nov cruise on Harmony. If it cancels, I'm only (temporarily) out taxes and fees.

At least a dozen or more on various cruise lines. Just Royal has Anthem, Rhapsody,  Odyssey,  all leaving in OCT/NOV 2021. plus a few more from Barcelona.

Thanks for the answer. It seems there is always RCL ships coming across from Amsterdam or Copenhagen, northern route west bound in the fall. The Adventure is there in Aug 21 but nothing coming back and it shows up in US in Nov. 21. Brilliance no where to be found in that time frame. Who knows. Brilliance supposed to come across in Sept this year, has not left Fla. yet and that is a very popular route reasonable chance it does not go. Stay safe
