Carnival to start select cruises on August 1 - Will Royal follow suit?

Recommended Posts

All cruise lines will extend their cancellations for the foreseeable future.  The only question is how far will they string their customers along (and hold deposits/hope cruisers pick the CWC) before they make it official.

At least they are public with their plans. We will see if it is changed In the future but it sure beats this month by month cancellation with no more information policy that Royal is employing.

Up to this announcement today they were basically following the same playbook as Royal is with the exception of a couple ships.  I Think Royal will follow with a multiple date (ship dependant) cancellation schedule.

I have a July cruise booked on Independence, I anticipate that Royal will cancel the July sailings. I had received a casino offer for a free Caribbean cruise only good for July 14 -August 31. I found that to be an interesting date selection.

I don't know if they will start August 1, but I do think this is how it will go in the first few weeks and months...a few ships, from a few ports, visiting only a few specific places.

Yes I agree, perhaps the 3-4 days cruises to CocoCay out of Port Canaveral and maybe Miami or Ft. Lauderdale.

Let's let Carnival "test the waters" first with their 8 ships scheduled to sail for August out of 4 different US ports.   They don't have the best track record and their name is already blemished so I am going to sit back and see how those sailings go.

I suspect that RCL will do the same as they are spending tons of money this month to get their crew home.    I would expect to hear from RCL in coming week or two with next round of cancellations.     The last round was done on or about April 16th (first round was done on or about March 12th) so if they stick with the 30-day period we should hear something soon.

Yep, this is why we will just wait until RCL's cancellation announcement before bothering to book flights. We are still on for June 22nd out of Amsterdam but we are also held back by the EU from going there for now (indefinite).

I would hope so, but I just got an email from Costa and they went out another month for many of their ships....and they are owned by Carnival Corporation. 🙄🙄

No one can be this gullible.  the lines are all going into either cold/warm layups. they have or in the process of repatriating most of the front/back of house employees.

Do you think they are going to do this for only 6-8 weeks?  The cruise lines will takes weeks 2-3 to get ships back to operational standards. Then hey hope all the contracted employees back.  This process alone will take 4-6 weeks.

The lines are cancelling cruises that have already need to be PIF.  then they cancel.  as of last week CLIA estimates 50% of all deposits opted the 125% credits.  They are using your money as an interest free loan.

There will be no cruises for at least 6 more months. I’m willing to bet on that.
