who would sacrifice their money right now.

Our next cruise is in November 2021. We're being optimistic that we won't have to cancel and rebook. In the meantime, we'll gladly take advantage of whatever price drops and additional OBC Carnival offers. So far, the rate for our cabin has dropped by $30.00 pp, and we've gotten an additional $25.00 pp OBC. After the Triumph misfortune a few years ago, and so many people cancelling cruises, we ended up with about $300.00 OBC for the cruise we had booked on the Liberty.

There are tons of articles out there saying they are up and healthy bookings for 2021.    You can choose to believe which ever one you want.

i did a search for cruise bookings down and couldn't find any articles with that.

I honestly don't know what to believe.  BTW,  I fully intend to book another cruise in 2021 - just don't know which one yet.  We were booked on the Panorama and I'm not sure I want to  rebook that one- but I just did a mock booking  and the price did not change from my original cruise for exactly the same cabin for the same time next year.  I think that is good news for cruisers - especially those of us with FCC and OBC.

In any case, the article I was referring to - which I thought I posted is:

https://thepointsguy.com/news/cruise-bookings-strong-despite-coronavirus/

I have no idea who  ' The Points Guys Are' and if they are reputable.

I applaud those of you who will be getting back on the ships right away.  For one thing, you will help keep Carnival solvent.  For another, you are my guinea pigs.  I so want to start cruising again, and if nothing much happens to those who cruise as soon as they can, then I will be on the ships again only three or four months behind you!  🙂

As for future cruise bookings being up, my guess is that stat is probably a direct result of those who chose to take their recent cancellations as a future cruise credit.  Those cruises that were cancelled were probably mostly full because they were relatively near term.   Many of those folks who cancelled took the FCC rather than a refund, and some of those FCCer's probably applied their FCC right away to a much more distant cruise.   And since more distant cruises always start out with a smaller % fill rate, it wouldn't take many of those FCC rebookings to "push up" the so-called future booking rate.  All of which is to say  I think the future booking rate stat isnt that informative about future cruise line success.

I just booked the Magic for 8/1. I have had 5 cruises cancel on me since March, its been crazy. The first 2 I had already purchased cheers and still waiting for the refund. If 8/1 cancels I will get another $600 OBC for one of my future cruises I already have deposits on. I am hoping we are good on this one! Its the last opportunity to cruise since my daughter starts school on 8/10.

Even though Carnival announced cruises starting in August who in would put even $1 on a deposit for a cruise.  With all the news and the difficulties with being socially distant nearly impossible on a ship I find it hard to believe that things will ever be the same.  I am platinum on Carnival and we cruise at least 3 times a year.  Already had one cruise canceled.  I have the Radiance booked the end of November but who knows....I rolled my cruise credit from March to this cruise.  I wish I took the refund but I will not risk anymore money until I see how things will work.

I've rebooked twice now..

Not much of a sacrifice if you want to cruise.

We have three booked: September on the Breeze, next April on the Mardi Gras and next September out of New Orleans.  All of these were booked before any of this started. However, in April we did pay an extra $175 on the deposit for our September cruise when the price dropped $250.  Since we were already booked, we can cancel our September cruise up to 30 days out if we decide not to take this one.  Not sure what the next few months will hold, but we definitely plan to cruise again.

I'm looking forward to a new adventure on August 8th.  I was going on the Panorama, now the Horizon.

You can get sick from others whether it be a cold, the flu, Norovirus, or Covid-19.

Enhanced sanitation will be a welcome addition.

I recall that on a few recent voyages, there were now sinks with running water and soap in addition of the Purell dispensers.  Maybe that would be a good idea; however, it might lead to more waste of paper towels.

Our October Radiance cruise got cancelled so we rebooked on Breeze in December, had to pay $198 deposit in addition to the $500 we had previously put down. Got Cheers and a few hundred bucks a piece in Cruise Cash when they were both 20% off, and rebooked a Villa in HMC. Not sure if the credit posted yet for the one we had cancelled in October, but no biggie. Oh, and we also got the Spa pass. Mom thinks she'll like the thalassotherapy pool and I think I will too. Neither one of us are concerned that Carnival will go bankrupt.

I think I heard new bookings are up 21%.

Seems lots here just here to tell others not to book, but obviously people are booking.

That good news.  Now they can use that money to pay me back on my refund!  37 days left on the 90 day ticker!

We have a cruise booked on the Mardi Gras for February, 2021.  Our final payment due date is in November.  Normally I pay it off sooner.  At this point, I'm holding off until due date, not knowing what the future holds.

A  few years ago, I watched an episode on the Travel Channel about RCI's cruising.  The CD said that the cost of the passenger tickets pays for the operation of the ship on the cruise if the ship is sailing full.  That's why they offer upgrades/sells if it isn't.  They make their profits from onboard sales.  (Casino, bingo, excursions,  bar tabs, soda packages, shops, steak house meals, etc.)

I can't help but wonder with so many taking FCCs of $600, at what point does this cut into their profits?  Passengers will now be spending that $600 on what they normally would be making a profit on.  With the ships already supposedly sailing at a reduced capacity, now the ticket sales are not covering the cost of operating the ship.  Add to that all of the people that have gotten the $600, at what point will they go bankrupt.  I guess only time will tell.

I understand the concern. I get it.

However, "sacrificing money" "not even $1". That's quite an overreaction

Scapegoat?  Oh, that's cuter than precious.

But time to return the conversation to reality.  CCL subsidiary Cunard hasn't been "pushing back," of course; it's largely out well into autumn.

And HAL and Princess obviously don't seem up for that push either. Thanks to the Miami Herald, we know that another CCL line is facing facts:  https://www.miamiherald.com/news/business/tourism-cruises/article242555176.html

So no time for conjuring scapegoats .... better to realize that Carnival's Aug. 1 promise is more 🦄.

Better than precious, it is precise. Especially when states are reopening despite the fact that none meet all of the minimal guidelines. Who are they going to blame then?

Until they can show that they can sail safely I won't consider booking a new cruise with any cruiseline. I have my doubts that they will be sailing in August.

I wouldn't risk a dime.  I don't see any way they actually cruise in August.  The peak in NC is supposed to be beginning of June.  I don't think Mr. Arison is going to bet his entire family fortune on getting people on ships that close after the peak of a global pandemic.  I plan on watching this thing play out and do some land based vacationing and let the guinea pigs take first dibs.  I do hope at some point in the next few years it becomes feasible to cruise again.  I am not putting my family at risk any time soon.

Other than Antarctica, where can you vacation and not by at risk from the virus? Vacation at home?

It is impossible to be socially distant on a boat.  Feel free to go on a cruise.  I will not.  I am not going to take the chance of being stuck on a ship with a bunch of sick people and no port that will let me debark.  Nothing is stopping you.  Go for it.  I will be land based until this thing blows over.
