Time for Holland and Seabourn to be one

This is HALs time to figure out what they want to be to be profitable.  Looking upthread I see scary requests that revolve around "free", "spend a lot of time in the room" and the non-profit events on board .  Not going to happen and quite frankly HAL would prefer that you don't come onto the ship - they just can't tell you that out loud.

airlines figured this out recently.  Status doesn't come from mileage only.  It comes from "fuller" priced tickets that are longer distances.  Low price flights are given discounted status accrual.  Travel a lot at low price?- back of the bus.

Unfortunately for me, status comes mostly from # of days cruising - regardless of the price you pay or the amount you spend on board (casino, drinks, excursions, etc.)   Yes, a suite gives one more points, but an Inside is the same as a Mini Suite.  I have had a number of Neptune Suites and received double points, but also many Mini Suites and no extra points.  I usually spend about $1,500 per week on shipboard items (both wife and self), but not many extra credits there.

I think if HAL wanted more profit, they would offer some extra perks to those spending more on board - and many of those things would not be costly - and attract them for future cruises.  I get no "special" offers other than the regular 4 star perks.

How could you think that!!  I just want the automatic doors to the Lido replaced with the person who both greeted and opened the door. Not much to ask.

You'll need to budget for the gratuities for the doorman.

Extra if he washes your hands for you.

I think that HAL has to figure out what they want to be and then how to make that profitable.  It seems that it is attracting people looking for a "traditional cruise" that a "good" price.  It seems that the average HAL pax is pretty happy with what is included and is miffed when HAL takes those unprofitable things way

No no. Back in time gratuities were optional!!

Of course they were optional but one still needed to budget for gratuities for great service.

The doorman washing your hands for you would definitely qualify as great service.
